Never been to 9:30 before, but I am going to the Jacket show November 27th.
What are the chances of meeting the band, getting a good view of the show, bringing in a camera? Anything else a first-timer should know?
-
Getting a good view of the show is pretty much a certainty at the 9:30, and you'll almost definitely be able to bring a non-pro camera in. You can usually count on meeting at least some of the band if you want, but not always.

Right now vansmack is thinking "Well this thread was a fucking disappointment!"

also watch out for the security guard with the big loop earrings, he'll kick you out for no reason at all, if you're smoking weed.

$6 yuenglings
(with apologies to WLSLM, nkotb, or whoever first said it...)

Or drinking "Coke." And he'll "steal" your tickets. Then he'll play bagpipes in your face.

Yeah, if you're 6 feet tall or more, or the club is 2/3 or less full, that's true. Otherwise, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree strongly with this. Black Cat? No bad place in the club. Sold-out 9:30 show, which MMJ will likely be? You're going to see a lot of hair (which is all you'd see at MMJ anyway). Unless you get there before doors open, or shortly thereafter, you're going to encounter a wall of people everywhere except all the way in the back, and even then you'll be constantly shifting to avoid the wanderers.

Seconded. I'm short and I often find it very hard to see anything at sold-out shows. It works when I get there really early, but then I spend several hours feeling slightly crushed.

if you can get there somewhat reasonably early, get up to the balcony and score some railing. the views up there are always really good and fill up rather late. however, in my opinion, the sound is worse up there than on the ground level. the vocals seem distorted, but then again, it sometimes depends on the band.

just to offer a different opinion: at the massive attack show, vocals sounded way better upstairs (i moved upstairs halfway through the show).

My apologies, I was thinking about it from my point of view. :)
