Title: Sigur Ros
Post by: shanrocks on January 14, 2003, 11:20:00 am
Who has seen this band perform live before? Are they worth checking out, and are their shows extremely mellow?

i have never seen them life but i saw them on one of the late night shows....they are amazing. if you like their music then you might as well see them live because its simply so amazing. of course the shows are mellow.....thats why i want to bring a couch with me to their show here in march. and besides how can you want to miss a 1/2 blind, gay icelandic guy play the guitar with a cello bow?

I saw them last time they came to 9:30. They are definitely worth checking out.

Their November 4th show in DC has consistently been on people's lists for "top 10 best concerts in DC" for 2002.
I saw them the first time they came round and it was worth the money without a doubt. The Washington Post apparently thought the show was far too mellow, but I think if you go to a Sigur Ros show expecting anything more than mellow, you need your head checked (and your review column canceled). A good example of why I'd turn to Seventeen magazine for music updates before I'd open the Post.
Anyway, I will say I have tickets to one of the upcoming shows that I am hesitant about keeping. I've heard they added a string section to the festivities since last time, but lately I have trouble coughing up $30 for any one band (even if they are as good as Sigur Ros). Maybe if the Pixies did a reunion tour I wouldn't think twice, but that's pretty much it.

Anybody else hesitant concerning the validity of a band that utters nothing but foreign nonsense. Not exactly a recipe for global music domination (speaking of real music.. not pop music). Yeah, I listen to this stuff on occasion, but I'm slowly thinking "what in the world am I doing listing to this carp".

Just hang back and relax and let the music wash over your body.
