Title: Devo cancelled?
Post by: Charlie Nakatestes, Japanese Golfer on July 26, 2005, 09:21:00 am
I'm sure many jaded, balding 40somethings will be crushed if this is true...

7.25.05 | Devo Cancels Summer Shows
Due to matters beyond their control, Devo is canceling their Bumbershoot festival appearance, along with other shows on their tour. Please visit Devo??s official site for more info.

As a jaded, balding, 40-something that was planning on bringing a bunch of jaded, balding 40-somethings to the show, this is bad news.

The  Club Devo (http://www.clubdevo.com/index.htm)  website has not been updated since 18 July, so there is no information there on these rather revolting developments.

I'm not a jaded, balding 40something, and true, I will be bummed if this is true, but having that $60 back in my account would ease the sting a bit...

Unless of course you ordered online, then your 400% markup "surcharge" will conveniently be witheld.

I would assume that if the D.C. date is truly cancelled, someone from the club will chime in very soon with a confirmation.....or then again maybe they won't.......

Sorry, I just figured most 40somethings are balding. Maybe 40something geek rock fans have low levels of testosterone and manage to avoid balding.   ;)

I'm only 35, so I don't fall into that catagory, although I am balding, since like....25....gotta love having blonde hair.   ;)

I just got my tickets two days ago!!!!!!!!!!!

"Due to matters beyond their control"

Meaning they couldn't find enough $55 ticket buyers?

Does not look good. Some venues and pollstar are still saying DEVO is playing and other no longer have them on their schedules. As for ??Due to matters beyond their control? that is posted on the Bumbershoot festival web site, I am also going with the could not find enough people to part with $55 a ticket. I was one of the people that did, since I knew the show was going to be good even that I was not thrilled about the cost.

He has very little body hair, which would indicate low levels of testosterone, wouldn't it?

I suppose the Kennedy's all had/have low testosterone, too?

What about your idol, Johnny Cash?  How low was his testosterone.

Rhett, sometimes you remind me of my brother...the one the hogs ate.

I seem to remember JFK Jr having a hairy chest. Can't say I saw any of the other Kennedy's, or Johnny Cash, shirtless.

So you only monitor the body hair levels of presidents?

How about Millard Fillmore?  Was he a hairy mofo?

I said JFJ Jr, not his dad.

I don't think the National Enquirer has featured a cover shot of Millard Fillmore in his bathing suit like they have Jr. and Clinton. At least not the National Enquirers on display in Springfield.

good thing there are so many concert promotion experts on this board... could it just possible be that Mark Mothersbaugh got some unexpected film scoring work and needed to cut the tour short?  one of the Anihiem shows was sold out and tickets were 62.50 for that one.

One of four So Cal shows, plus a $10.50 convenience charge and it still sold out!  I'm told the Friday night show is not far behind either.  I'm trying to catch them in Hollywood on Saturday night.

hmmm why wasn't this from the Bumbershoot website posted here

7.20.05 | Ani DiFranco Cancels Summer Tour

With regret, Ani DiFranco has had to cancel her summer tour. Please visit Ani??s official site for more info.

Because nobody here likes Ani DiFranco, or will admit to it.

Plus, she doesn't have any local shows scheduled that would possibly be affected by her cancellation dates (she is cancelling all dates after August 1, if I remember correctly).

i like a couple of her songs ('gravel' is really great songwriting), but when she starts singing about taking her tampon out in the ocean, i get a bit alienated

I have one album which is listenable (Not a Pretty Girl) but don't care for a vast majority of everything else I've heard.

She did play Wolftrap last night I think. Obviously, her fans don't hang out on the 9:30 chatboard.

I do remember her touring as a teenager and playing at the church basement down the street from me when I was in grad school in the late 80's. Maybe she was too young to play the clubs.

What is the story with the Devo gigs - are they still on?  The 9:30 homepage still lists them in the schedule/it says nothing about them being canceled.

"Astronomically, it begins with the autumnal equinox (around 23 September in the Northern hemisphere, and 21 March in the southern hemisphere), and ends with the winter solstice (around 21 December in the Northern hemisphere and 21 June in the Southern hemisphere). However, meteorologists count the entire months of March, April and May in the Southern hemisphere, and September, October and November in the Northern hemisphere as autumn."
