It's Memorial Day Weekend, and what better way to celebrate our country's brave, fallen heroes...than with some German electropop! As previously reported, Kraftwerk will kick off a brief tour in the U.S. Monday, after which they'll head back to Europe (and picturesque locales like Thessaloniki) for the remainder of the summer.
>>>>Looking forward to tonight's first show! Hope tommorrow night is just as good!
-
If you feel up to it, afterwards log on so I (and anyone else that's interested) can find out how it was-really crowded or pretty good? Sound?
-
Holy shit.....the perfect meshing of audio & video.....the Germans, as usual, never cease to amaze......cannot wait till tommorow night......I gotta crash...long day in the Salt mines coming up.....and then back for another strong dose of German Electro Pop!
-
Great show and they had the robots with them!! The best part was that they played for two hours. It was well worth the $40.
-
what kind of merch did they have and what were the prices? thanks

t-shirts were $25
i swear they were $40 in miami last year, but maybe they were only $30.. either way, cheaper last year..
i didn't see any tour books, they had those last year..
shirts.. autobahn, robots and one other i think? they had more last year.
my 3rd time seeing kraftwerk in the past 13 months.. tomorrow will make the 4th.
-
so no tour shirt with dates or anything? i looked at their webshop and saw lots of stuff like biking type shirts and stuff, i guess they don't have that either.
-
i'm in for tonight...

Three words: the fucking shit.
If you don't have a ticket for tonight and are on the fence about going, just GO. You won't regret it.
-
I'd love to get Europe Endless tonight or Spacelab.
-
I have an extra ticket for tonight....and I sure would like to hear "Antenna",but I know the set list will not change....see ya tonight!
-
Don't want to burst any bubbles, but I am fairly certain the set will be identical...but really, I cannot complain. It was AMAZING.
-
Any personal cameras allowed inside? How was the temperature inside?
-
No Pro Photography, buddy had his camera phone and they were cool with that.
It was a great show. They were running late because of flights in were delayed but that is minor. Another for Be there!
-
Temperature? You know those Krauts...austere, chilly, very frigid. I had icicles hanging from my nose. But it was worth every damn minute.
What a strange question. It's a sold-out show. It's not chilly, that's for sure.
-
Geez H, people. Is it too much to answer a simple question without looking like this is an audition for a stand up comedian??
-
yeahwhatever.

If you plan on staying here, get used to it.

What is your problem? You had both your questions answered quickly and pretty damn straightforwardly -- no pro cameras, camera phones okay, temp was pretty chilly (not!). Take this one message -- chill. There's also a FAQ section where you can ask a question and get an answer, no frills or discussion.

yeah, the set was the same, but some songs were longer/shorter tonight.

What amazing two hours which just flew by, loads of fantastic and never dull sounds emerging from the soundsytem. My favorite songs were "Chrono" the nod back to Detroit, the tweaked version of "Pocket Calculator" and "Radioactivity" which just proves how wack most of the current electronic music is. Beats more block rockin' then even the Chemical Brothers.
Wish I could have cloned myself last night. Was situtanted in the balcony near the stage in order to get a peek at what was going on behind the workstations, but left quickly when couldn't see what the video screens were showing. Ended up near the sound booth for the evening...
Aren't these guys due for a boxset treatment soon? My ex took most of my Kraftwerk with her... And somewhere the Electrifying Mojo (http://www.jahsonic.com/ElectrifyingMojo.html) continues to throw down.
-
righteous show.
favorites were vitamin, the model, robots, man machine.
definitely a privilege to have seen these guys.

i had a great time and have seen them from a few angles now. i couldn't get into the tent at coachella (had to watch from outside), was 4th row at miami, 2 nights ago i was on the balcony and last night i was dead center about halfway back on the floor.. they were all great, but miami was still the best.

they've had "the catalogue" listed on their website for over a year now, but there's no indication of when it's supposed to come out. the stuff i read about it last year was that it was supposed to be an 8CD/LP box set... but there's been no indication of when it'll be out..
meantime, 'minimum maximum' comes out next week, according to what i've seen online.

>>>I've been listening to "Minimum/Maximum for a couple weeks now and the sound quality is superb.......it's a must have when it hits the streets!......I can't wait for the double disc DVD which may be later in the summer.....

Ditto for me...was so hyped to see them last night and they definitely didn't disappoint. highlights for me were the model, TEE, calculator, radioactivity and man machine...wish they had played showroom dummies tho.
-
METAL ON METAL!! God that song was unreal. The foundation for industrial music. And Trans Europe Express practically has hip-hop beats...who would have thought 4 dudes from Germany standing behind their keyboards could have such a profound impact on music.
-
Went there last night and was amazed! I thought after so many years (decades?) their music might not cut it anymore -- but boy was I wrong!

Kraftwerk: Museum Pieces
Post
Wednesday, June 1, 2005; C03
Having released little new material in the past 20 years, the members of Kraftwerk are now essentially the curators of a museum of their own work.
But group founders Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider don't just periodically dust the exhibits. They've undertaken massive renovations, beginning with 1991's "The Mix," an album of remade classics, and including a painstaking conversion from analog to digital technology. Monday night at a packed 9:30 club, the influential Duesseldorf quartet brought new sounds and images to such futuristic oldies as "The Man-Machine."
As at most techno-pop performances, most of the music was pre-programmed. Some of the vocals were live, but significant deviations from the script would have derailed the tightly coordinated revue. Such songs as "Tour de France" were linked with pertinent video footage, and the elementary lyrics (in German, English and a smattering of French and Russian) to tunes such as the anti-nuke "Radioactivity" flashed on the screen behind the laptop-punching performers.
Kraftwerk has added harder, more metallic beats to many of its songs, updating its bleeps and swooshes to fit mid-'90s styles such as Berlin tekno and London drum-'n'-bass. Yet the group's machine-mad vision seemed largely nostalgic: Abstract videos suggested early-20th-century artists such as Mondrian and the Soviet Constructivists, while "Autobahn" and "Trans Europe Express" were illustrated by images of gleaming but antiquated cars and trains. By the time the band unveiled its trademark performing robots -- for the second of the two-hour show's three encores -- it seemed that Hutter and Schneider might be well advised to hire outside consultants for their modernization program. Kraftwerk is still lively and stylish but seemed a little quaint.

yeah, there was a similar review in the miami paper after the show last year.
it seems to me that the people reviewing the shows just don't 'get it'.

I have to disagree with Bags here:
I think Kraftwerk managed in an admirable way to transport classic recordings into a new millium. The video show was state of the art and synced to the music all the time. The sounds have been all transferred to a digital format resulting in an amazing sonic landscape previously unheard.
The "oldtimers" have proved once again to be on top of their game!

It's not Bags you disagree with, it's Mark Jenkins. I disagree with him too...his use of the word quaint seems totally wrong to me.

I thought the mix was different the second night...more bass for one thing [we brought in extra subs for the occasion but it seemed they were more pronounced last night than Monday] and also more definition between each players' parts. Also I noticed more knob-twiddling the second night, it seemed a little more improvisational than the first night. Both nights were stellar shows though. I love the robots and the glowing grid suits. What an honor it was to have Kraftwerk play here.

>>>Both nights were something special and were not to be missed....probably not to be seen in this town again...remember,its been 24 years since the last time they played at the Warner Theatre.....a HUGE thank you goes out to Seth and everyone at the club responsible for this booking....I had 7 tickets each night and had people driving in from 3 hours or more away for the show....none said they would have missed it for the world.....if I wasn't ass deep in proposals this week I would be in New York or even to Chicago to see at least one more show....I had to cancel my trip to see them in Miami last year at the last minute....this more than made up for it......thanks to the club from all the grateful Kraftwerk fans here locally and beyond!

i didn't think i was going to ever get to see them, but now i've seen them four times in a 13-month span. after two nights in a row of seeing them, i wouldn't mind seeing them again tonight (though i couldn't get myself up to nyc for it).
despite the identical setlists, the quality of the performance and the subtle differences of each night (well, coachella had mostly the same songs.. just less because it was a shorter festival set) made them all worthwhile.

Does anyone have digital picture of one of the gigs? I would be nice if 9:30 had a picture web site.

it would be even nicer if we could bring this board into the 21st century :D ... we could have a whole section for pics

I want my avatar!

I didn't go the first night and was just talking about the setlist. The sound was incredible. I was standing towards the left side and LOVED the feeling of the bass over there. One of the coolest things about seeing them live was that the songs had a much fuller sound than on the albums.
