Title: So it's the hipsters V. the hippies in brooklyn...
Post by: azaghal1981 on April 20, 2007, 12:43:00 pm
Angry Williamsburg hipsters are blogging about a couple jambands playing McCarren Pool this summer and stupid hippies are taking it personally. This is making for some amusing reading.

Curbed (funny comments from both sides) (http://www.curbed.com/archives/2007/04/19/burg_hipster_elitists_dont_want_to_share_mccarren_pool.php)

  Crooked Rain (http://crookedrain84.blogspot.com/2007/04/jam-bands-to-invade-mccarren-battle.html/)

 Brooklyn Vegan (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2007/04/upcoming_mccarr.html)

PT Bisco (You'll feel a whole lot dumber after reading this but the reactions to the angry hipsters are funny. (http://www.phantasytour.com/bisco/boards_thread.cgi?threadID=1295752&page=1)

Yes, I have this much time on my hands.

You forgot Productshopnyc:

 Here it is:

McCARREN POOL | Disco Biscuits & Unphrey's McGee, Douchebags

I'm not about to debate whether jam bands suck or not. Hell, I could really give two shits that Clear Channel/Live Nation booked the Disco Biscuits & Unphrey's McGee show at McCarren Park Pool. Sure it seems to be an odd choice, but whatever, that's not what bothers me.

The thing that truly makes this show so ridiculous is that tickets go on sale on 4/20 at 4:20pm. This folks, is exactly why so many people make fun of jam bands. Seriously, both of these groups are made up of people in their thirties. I don't care that they smoke the marijuana, but what kind of douchebag is making 4-20 jokes in their thirties? What fucking losers........

this prettymuch sums up my feelings on the issue.
unless you're rear-ending me at a jersey turnpike tollbooth, i could really care less if you're smoking pot, but the "420 culture" is fucking stupid.  learn to have a conversation that doesn't involve pot or getting high or relating something to getting/being high or just fucking die.

Oops, that wasn't my opinion. It was productshop's. I have nothing against jam bands and their fans.

I actually like both bands but a decent amount of their fans (especially the disco biscuits') are some of the most over-priveleged, uncultured, under-worked, drug-addicted assholes I've come across.

Oh c'mon now. I bet there are certain people from this very board who can't hold a conversation without talking about music, or turning a conversation into a music related talk. What's the difference?

unlike drugs, music has been a constant in my life that i'm fairly confident will be a central element for a long time.  by and large, for the nam on the street, music makes you more interesting, not less.

GI Joes were, once upon a time, really important to me too.  i got over them.  someone who insists on turning every conversation to, or centering their lives around, GI Joes can expect to be ridiculed by me and told to grow up.  of course, anything in small doses is fine (pun intended).

did it really take you 56 extra minutes to come up with that? you already replied to that exact post already at 2:01 and then at 2:57 you post this?  i understand your brain works slower at advanced ages, but...

 i'm hardly a hipster.

I know you and I disagree on much, but I definitely think you're onto something with this one.

It's good to see you learned a little math in high school to go along with the Camus and clove cigarettes.

I actually bought a "Kill All Hippies" t-shirt at the 9:30 club about seven years ago.  Was anyone else at show?  You can borrow it if you want, kosmo.

This ties in with the drugs/bands topic due to the fact that:

#1.)  We are talking about Primal Scream.

#2.)  Every ten minutes during that show, Kevin Shields and Bobby Gilespie would amble offstage for "refreshments."

Great show, though.  They encored with "Kick Out the Jams."

I strongly considered buying that t-shirt                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      but decided to many people might take it the wrong way... What an awesome some that was indeed, positioned myself right in front of Mani for the evening.  RATM played in the area right after that show and their fans were all wetting their beds over what I sure was an entirely butchered version of "Kick out the Jams"..  It couldn't have been nearly as powerful as what PS kicked out that night.
