So I was sure I heard this when it happened live but had no way to double check....until now. Thanks to youtube, we have
confirmation. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1rZBmk0DYU)
And the crotchity old man tone in which he said it couldn't have been more perfect.
Senator! Think of the children!
-
I think this is understandable, as Senator McCain came of age when horses were the main mode of transport in American cities, and therefore "horseshit" was a very common issue.
-
Did he say "Of Course" ?
-
It wouldn't make sense in that context.
-
He's my man...and why would we want talk with a little insignificant country like Spain anyway?
-
Actually, I do think he said "of course I did."
The commentary on the debates reconfirms my theory that we've become a nation of adult children. So much of it is over who "won" or "lost" or made the most "gaffes." They spent most of the 90 minutes talking about substance (although still with little detail) and that's all people can think of.
I actually think they both did very well -- none of them will change many minds, but people who were leaning one way or another will probably strengthen in their leanings.
-
I didn't see the debate, I was out and I haven't talked to any of my friends who saw it and the youtube clips piss me off.

Agreed. Both essentially told their base what they wanted to hear; it's hard to say one did better than the other. McCain's bitter old crank demeanor may have turned some people off, though.

McCain seemed really stressed too...did you notice all the jaw clenching and teeth grinding he was doing? Obama seemed much more at ease.
-
He talked through clenched teeth most of the time.

The real fun will be thursday's vp debate...can't wait to see Palin look even stupider than she already has.
-
Maybe somebody will feed her lines via an earpiece.
There is no way she will fair much better than she did in that interview with little more than a week between the two without any help.
Biden should request that she be patted down beforehand.
-

She doesn't even appear capable of reading her lines correctly.
Biden will have to be careful not to take too many easy shots -- that will be tempting, and could also make him look bad. If he's smart he'll just let her do herself in.
-
I must have watched a completely different =debat than most of y'all. During the little bit of the debate I watched had Obama looked very lost and flustered. Lots of "Uh", "Umm", and "Ah" with a very few of little additional substance intermingled. McCain answered directly and specifically. I kind of like the idea of having a president that will call it like it is and say something is horse shit when it is. The only thing McCain seemed frustrated with was having to be up there debating someone who was so poorly prepared for anything other than the lines he memorized.

you, sir, are correct - you must have watched a different debate. i believe you were tuned in to the SciFi channel.

Key words from that statement.
-
Maybe you're just not used to someone trying to think as they answer as opposed to someone who sticks to talking points (and anyone with any knowledge of the foreign policy issues that were discussed knows how thickly coated McCain's answers were with horseshit and flat out inaccuracy). But as mentioned before, neither candidate really went above or below what was expected of him.

hey manimtired, do the dems still seem worried and uneasy?

'still"...wait wait wait..i thought they never were?

He was referring to your saying they were.

i stand by that statement.

That is laughable....every major move the McCain campaign has made in the past month suggests panic and grasping at straws.
Plus, I'm pretty sure I heard his dentures whistling during that debate...seriously.
-
These debates are a joke. Where is the real face off? I want a physical challenge. These debates should be more like a Japanese game show.
-
i stand by the statement that the dems freaked out about palin when she was announced. no?
-
Honestly, for me it went:
"Hah is he kidding? This might be the most unqualified VP pick ever."->"Oh shit people are buying her 'I'm just like youuuuuuuuuuuuuu!' nonsense; how can this be? Is middle/southern America really this slow?"->"Oh favorable ratings dropping, America waking up, interviews are hilarious spectacles, McCain is hating his staff for forcing him to make this pick now."
And that's where I am currently.
So yes, during the week following the Republican convention, there was a little nervousness there but that's all gone now. Not saying it won't come back if Biden pulls some stupid shit thursday.
-
you think you dems got this in the bag now?
-
Well all I can say is after that debate is that I am still voting for McCain. Nothing Obama said came even close to convincing me that he deserves my vote for an office that he is so unqualified for. Sad thing is that our presidential elections have shifted from a vote of who is better for the job to one of which candidate would be cooler to have in office. You see how well that worked out with the current moron we have running the country. I guess eventually this fad will pass like all do. Unfortunately this fad has consequences that none other have.
-
so we should vote for the guy thats been voting with the current moron running the country for the past 8 years? i'll take lack of experience over lack of judgement any day
-
I'll give you that McCain is definitely way less cooler than Obama, but what about McCain makes him qualified for the job? Wold you say that Joe Biden is as qualified aas McCain is?

Absolutely. I can say without question I would've voted for Biden had he won the democratic nomination, but not Obama. 4 more years of Bush before 4 seconds of Obama.
-
From what I can tell, McCain changed the tone of the bailout from one of cooperation to one of partisan politics. The negotiations never recovered after he tried to inject presidential campaign politics into the equation. I don't think Paulson was just crying wolf.

I love you.
-
I didn't say that.
I was just saying that I'm not sure the Palin pick did much more than sure up the far right. For a while after the convention, it looked to me like a lot of women were eating up her bullshit but this doesn't seem so after all.

You know, when I go to the gas station and get pissed that gas is $3.50/gallon, I generally blame Barack Obama who voted for the Bush energy bill and opposes off-shore drilling instead of John McCain who voted against the Bush energy policy, favors energy independence, BUT has the letter R after his name. But hey, McCain's a Bush clone, I know because a douchebag on a nightclub messageboard said so once.
-
Hey douchebag, drive a hybrid or smaller car, carpool, ride a bike, or walk. I laugh at you for getting pissed about the price of gas, loser.

You forgot to remind me that all our gas problems can be fixed by inflating our tires. Your idiot Messiah assured us all from his million dollar house financed by criminals that was all we needed to do.
-
Off shore drilling = a 3% increase of the amount of domestic gas made available to the American Public in the year 2015 at the earliest, and will have virtually no effect on price.
Demand from China and India made the price go up, a demand we all knew was coming.
The war in Iraq decreased supply to the world to a tune of about half it was before the war (from 3 million barrels a day down to 1.8 million barrels a day). For comparative effect, the increase by 2030 from the expanded off shore drilling is about 200,000 barrels a day, or the equivelant of about 11% of what was lost from the Iraq war.

financed by criminals? i thought his wealth came from writing books...
the inflating the tires was a common sense suggestion supported by other organization and never meant to provide a permanent solution. the knee jerk deriding of the this suggestion by the McCain campaign is typical of how his organization handles such issues. fire first think later and end up with egg on their faces.
do you really want a potential president who has in the past enjoyed gambling and also cozies up to lobbiests from the the gaming industry?

despite the fact that i disagree with everything Julian points out, the use of the word douchebag was directed AT him first, therefore i think he does reserve the right to use it back.
-
i never called him a douchebag. i enjoy most of his posts
-
I was unaware I called anyone in particular a douchebag. It was a "royal douchebag" applying to a vague collective of Obamaphiles, the same way the Queen of England refers to herself as a "we" when she means herself.
-
ah i see. i assumed because you quoted me, the douchebag was thrown in my direction. which is gross

after he called everyone against him douchebags

I don't think they're freaked out now. The ones freaked out now? GOP.

I believe that off-shore drilling is yet another republican manipulation of people. Off-shore drilling WILL reduce dependancy of Middle East Oil. thats true.
most people infer that to mean lower prices. dont be fooled, you'll just be putting money into someone elses pockets.
-
What's most interesting is how my not calling anyone a douchebag overrides me pointing out again the fact that John McCain is not a Bush clone, and its Obama who has sided with Bush on several economic disasters like his latest energy policy. Obama failed, again, today to show any qualifications for the Presidency when he, as the supposed de facto leader of the Democrats at this point, failed to get House Democrats to back the economic bailout bill he himself supported. I can't wait to elect this guy to office so he and his democratic majority in both houses find themselves unable to be united under Obama's glorious hand of HopeChange.
The Obamaphiles are salivating at passing the buck off on McCain, when all we needed for the economic bailout plan to pass was Obama to unite his majority in Congress, in which case all the Republicans could vote "no" and it'd be tough cookies. But alas, I suppose photo ops was more important then uniting people and getting things done. Then again, if he had actually tried, we would've seen he couldn't have done it anyway since he's a divisive, weak-handed charlatan with no clothes. I love the talk of new politics and building coalitions across the aisle from a guy who cannot sway his own Congressional majority to pass a bill he backs. Great work, Obama.
-
the democrats in the house were not going to solely bear the brunt of the voters anger on this bill, nor should they 5 weeks from the election. if anything you have it backwards, the now protectionist mccain couldnt get the house republicans on board. heck, he didnt even need all of them
-

so basically because he didnt convince 100% or 200 some house democrats to ALL vote a very hasty , almost emergency knee jerk reaction yes to probably the most risky, costly, volitale legislation perhaps in the history of earth that he's not qualified?
mccain was for this bill too and he only need like 1/3 of repubs!!
I guess we should vote for the candidate with the most frequent flier miles.
-
It's been known for many years that Rhett is a douchebag, so pointing it out doesn't add much to the discussion.
-
Sarah Palin is a cunt.
-
Ever since her cuntishness started to shine through, I've been afraid that Biden would mutter "fucking cunt" under his breath during the debate. And that'd be a much more aggregious slip-up than McCain's "horseshit."
-
Off shore drilling = a 3% increase of the amount of domestic gas made available to the American Public in the year 2015 at the earliest, and will have virtually no effect on price.
What I don't get is: doesn't the notion of reducing price imply that we have a nationalized oil industry? I mean, since we actually have a privatized oil industry, wouldn't a barrel of oil made here just get sold on the same world commodity market at the world market price no different than if it was produced somewhere else? Help me out here.

no, you nailed it. price wouldnt change a bit. Besides, Oil companies already have leases on drillable areas in the US. They just choose NOT to drill on them because they figure gas to be higher in the future so they will wait for the price to go up even more.
This whole thing is nothing more than Bush wanting to hand his oil buddies millions of acres of drillable land to ensure they are filthy rich for the rest of their, and their grandkids, lives.
it might actually be more of a pile of lies than that war in Iraq!!!!

Actually, for what it's worth, I thought it was a pretty stupid comment, and I don't really get the point of it in political discourse, especially given so many tangible things liberals CAN point out about Palin.
Honestly, I feel a bit sorry for her. I can't say I agree with anything she believes, but pushing her up on the national stage like this before she's ready is only going to make her sink like a stone.

calling a person on this forum a naughty insult is different from calling someone that doesnt poast here a bad name. but still not classy

you know its creepy...you just dont want to admit it. and the queen isnt in any real position of power.
-
i think it's mildly embarrassing, but whatever - chalk it up as further proof that the right-wingers are really, really reaching. while palin and mccain are attacked directly, their acolytes are reduced to mocking the musical choices of a few dems.
another winning strategy brought to you by McCain'08.
