Ohhhh yeah...who's going which nights?
I am ridiculously excited. Saw him last Sunday in Chicago, and I'm in love. I'll be going on Sunday, and I'm trying to figure out how early to get there. I'm planning on camping out to try and get a front row spot, any ideas as to what time to get there? And is 9:30 good with that? Never camped out there before. There's a gas station with a bathroom across the street, correct? AND WHO WANTS TO KEEP ME COMPANY?
Also, I'm thinking I need to go Monday, if anybody's got a ticket...will post in ticket exchange. I'm so stupid for thinking I would only need to go to two shows.
-
Sunday for me.
I've never had trouble getting a spot up front at sold out shows if I got there an hour before doors.
That's what I'm shooting for.
-
Sunday but also looking for Monday ticket.
-
yes but this is a NICK CAVE sold out show. This is serious fucking business.
-
My friend and I will be there Sunday night. I think we'll probably get to the club an hour before doors too. I'm quite excited! I've been waiting for this since April or May.
-
Saw him in San Francisco at the Warfield on this tour. It's PHENOMENAL. I think I'm doing the Monday show with MyraEllen...should be UBER fun.
-
I'll be there both nights! I'm hoping for a decent amount of variation between the two set lists.

Well I'll be at the Velvet at least until 2 the previous night; may as well stick around and camp out (kidding).
Can't ever see myself camping out outside a concert venue. Maybe I'll get there a couple hours earlier if the weather's nice.
-
i be there sunday....
-
Currently have a Monday ticket, but possibly interested to trade it for Sunday.
A good friend of mine just caught him in Seattle and said it was easily show of the year, and they dude goes to a buttload of shows.
-
monday here.
-
Mogwai, MBV and Nick Cave in a span of 2.5 weeks; does it get more ridiculous than that?
-
I'm there...this will be great. Saw him last in 97 or 98 (10 fucking years???) and I remember it like it was yesterday. This man brings it...and he's got an incredible band.
This will be the show of the year.
-
Sunday for me.

-
I have 3 tickets for SUN and I'm looking to trade for MON. SO FUCKING PSYCHED FOR THIS SHOW!! Cave's new record is SO GOOD!!
-

-
Anyone have a ticket for Monday? I'd love to go.
-
rusty, check your pms.
-
Oh, this will DEFINITELY be show(s) of the year. Seems a lot of us are going on Sunday, meatup? Definitely say hi to me while I'm sitting outside by my lonesome. I've got bright red hair, you can spot me a mile away.

I couldn't ever see myself camping out either, til the Nick Cave show in Chicago...I'm not gonna spend the night there or anything, just get there hours early. Hopefully before everyone else.
-
Sunday for us.
-
just found out i'm going to be in town on monday night, contrary to previous plans... so if anyone has an extra for monday night, please PM me. i'd be very grateful.
-
sunday night...can't wait

Has it really not been fixed yet?
-

it wasn't in the email. It was in the newsletter that was mailed out on Tuesday.

I didn't sign up for a snail mail newsletter because I assumed all info was included in the email newsletter and it seemed like a waste to have something mailed. I guess I learned my lesson.
-
Yeah, every once in a while, there's a pre-sale announced in there. I've been meaning to sign up for it forever.

if someone could PM me the password that would be grand.

Wish I could be there. It's going to be a good show.

Can someone who went to the show tonight either PM me or post what time it ends?
Just need to do some post-show planning for Monday.

on at 9:15, off right around 11:00.

Fucking great show! It's been ten long years since I last saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in concert (at the 9:30 Club), and it was worth the wait. Of course, I'd rather not have waited so long. His 2001 tour (which I had a ticket to) was canceled because of 9/11, and I was out of town when he came back in 2002, I think. Anyway, it's been too long. That 1998 show was one of the best I've ever seen, and tonight's show didn't disappoint. I finally got to hear "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry" in concert, and that was a definite highlight for me. Been waiting 16 years for that. I love that song so fucking much that I want to marry it and have five ugly children with it. "The Mercy Seat," "Deanna," and a blistering "Stagger Lee" to close the night. Awesome.
-
What a show, what a setlist:
1. Night of the Lotus Eaters
2. Dig, Lazarus, Dig
3. Tupelo
4. Weeping Song
5. Red Right Hand
6. Mignight Man
7. Love Letter
8. Hold On To Your Love
9. Moonland
10. The Mercy Seat :D

Re: the show, what Joe and Ed said.
-
yeah, amazing show - already looking forward to tomorrow!
-
i echo what has been said above... what a great show...
unbelievable set list.. unbelievable energy..for dc standards a great crowd.. too bad for the ringin in my right ear...guess i did not push my ear plug in enough..
cave just seemed like a man at the peak of his powers....
i'm also very glad he played papa won't leave you henry...
its also great when you see a live show and the new stuff is just as good as the classics! (and its so rare)
-
"I'm down here for your soul"
-
was stagger lee goin to be played regardless or did he really play it cause it was requested?
man that was great.. i did not expect to hear that!
-
They've been ending every show this tour with it.
At least from the setlists I've read/recordings I've heard.
So people knew it was coming.
-
So tonight's set list was the same as Chicago's 9/29 set list.
Tonight's audience wasn't bad, but there's room for improvement. They gave up on the possibility of a second encore too quickly. From what I've read on the good_son mailing list, Montreal got a second encore just a few nights ago, so maybe Monday's audience can do better.
-
Tomorrow I'm hoping he does "More News From Nowhere", "God Is In The House", "The Ship Song". and "Let Love In". Hopefully!
Meh, I might go see the Kills instead though. Tonight ended up being a super late night.
Nope, didn't wear my fashion statement, but I *did* finally meet azaghal1981! Fucking FINALLY.
-
hmm..i thought i heard him reacting to someone shouting out a request before playing stagger lee but i guess i missed something
or maybe he was joking around like he was when he joked about playing ship song and went into some other song (get ready for love i think)..
-
The person shouting out the request most likely knew to expect the song. I was expecting it at least.
Awesome to finally meet you ixkpd-bk!
I'm betting the ridiculousness of that late night matched that of the show itself.

Both Chicago shows differed slightly from last night's setlist-wise. I just found 24-bit flac recordings of them if anyone's interested.

neither, for truly overrated see Rhett Miller.
-
He's just trolling. Ignore him.
-
I do enjoy Tom Waits' songs. I just prefer them when they're sung by better singers, like Rod Stewart and Scarlett Johannsen.
And Nick Cave? I guess his music beats his dreadful screenwriting. That's something positive I can say!
Rhett Miller overrated? I didn't even realize he was rated. Certainly not like the two aforementioned critics darlings.
Anybody have any advice on a safe bank to move my savings account to before my bank and the FDIC tanks?

I had a really great time last night. Great set list (though I really wanted to hear "Do You Love Me?") and great energy with the crowd too. Now about the second encore, we were all cheering a lot, and the music just came on out of nowhere. Pretty much it felt like the club or somebody other than the crowd killed the chance for a second encore.
After the show, I managed to get Nick Cave to sign my Bad Seeds best of album cover. Some guy who works for the band took my album and got Nick to sign it for me. I joked to the guy when he asked for my name, I said "Nick could write a love letter on the cover for all I care" which is what Mr. Cave kinda did :)
I wish I could go tonight, but I have class that I can't afford to skip. The nice thing is that I talked to a few people who got to meet him and they said he told them that he's hoping to tour the states again either next year or in 2010.

if you don't have confidence in the FDIC, you're probably best off withdrawing all your money and hiding the cash under your mattress. if the FDIC goes down, not sure that the US dollar will be worth much anyways

It's in a close race with Harold and Kumar Go To Guantonomo Bay as the worst waste of two hours of movie viewing in my Netflix history.
At least Harold and Kumar had some nudity.

as long as your savings account is under, what, $200,000 now, the government is guaranteeing that money.
as for safe banks. . wells fargo is pretty good, they are one of the more conservative banks out there. . .but, like hutch said, the worst thing is to do is to panic. kept our money in wamu, and they got bought by jp morgan, which is fine with me. . .i mean, jp morgan himself staved off various panics in 1896 and 1906.

i didn't say i trusted the government (i mean, why on earth is the fdic still supporting the govt. backed citi deal for wachovia, when wells fargo is set to buy wachovia without a government guarantee; that doesn't make sense). . .i simply stated what the law says. . .and who ultimately bears the final burden on any of this stuff anyway? the taxpayers.

I'd take you up on that if I had a way to get down there at such short notice.
But alas, I do not.
-
hi, my first post here
have been going to 9:30 for 10 years now and was at the last show of Nick Cave in 2002
i also saw him under Grinderman last summer and even though I did not know the tracks, it was an excellent show )))
happy about tonight
-
I heard the 9:30 was using a 'newish' sound system? Is this true? The side speakers were muted apparently and I thought the sound was really unbelievable. Great set, great energy and again the 9:30 staff were friendly. Also, after watching the tour DVDs released last year, I had high expectations. My expectations were certainly met last night.
-
Yep...Brand new PA.
And the kick drum issues sounded as though they had been fixed.
-
I thought the sound was good, though the bass guitar was a bit boomy on a few songs, mostly the quiet ones.
-
Sounded great both last night and tonight.
With the exception of perhaps "Tupelo," I thought Sunday night's show was a little more intense than tonight's show, though maybe it was just me? "Mercy Seat" in particular seemed much more subdued tonight. Still a great show though. Tonight's show made up for the decreased intensity with a longer encore, including the surprising gem "Your Funeral, My Trial." Most of the main set was the same, except they nixed "Hard on for Love" and moved "Papa Won't Leave You, Henry" to the next-to-last position, as I recall.
Midway through the main set, Nick started to play "God Is In the House", but aborted it after a couple of screw ups in favor of "Love Letter". Nick said (paraphrased): "This song is cursed! Someone must have cast a spell on me. Maybe it's because we're too close to the real thing," referring to the White House, of course. That was fine with me, as it's not one of my favorite NC songs.
-
FUCKING AWESOME
-
took a while to get going, but once things fell into place the band hit on all cylinders. nick's vocals were WAY too loud in the mix for the first 3-4 songs (until midnight man, if i remember correctly) and nick was occasionally singing out of tune due to the fact that he could only hear himself and not the music. once they fixed that, it was a top-10-of-the-year show. crowd was OK, could have been better but can't complain. show finished just around 11:00 - good long set.
-
Bearman is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO drunk from drinking most of the red wine from Mr. Cave's dressing room. One of the best nights I've had in a long time. Got a great photo with the Man himself.
Holly can you hear me? I have a signed setlist for you. Fucking great night. Amazing show, despite the booming bass early on. Can I call in sick for work? Pretty please? Thatguy, thanks for letting me get back to my friends. You are a gentleman, a total prince and I heart you forever and ever.
What a fun night...I am so lucky to have had such a great time.
xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox,

Sounds like YOU had a blast! I'm glad I opted for The Kills in B-More tonight since the setlist didn't vary much on Nick's end.

-
did he play "More News from Nowhere"???
-
yes
-
"stagger lee" was a nice way to finish up. "your funeral, my trial" was fun, nick mentioned that they hadn't played it in a while and made no promises about pulling it off. sounded great.
anyone got the setlist?
-
i'm glad i went the first night...although i'm sure night 2 was great i would have been sad not to hear we call up on the author or night of the lotus eaters.. those are two of my favorite three songs from the new album..
-
Anyone wanna drive to Philly and back tonight?
-
Goodness...that is SO tempting!!
-
... must... resist...
(samantha - nice meeting you and cali last night)
-
if a few of us do it together, driving privileges are shared! LET'S DO IT!
-
who wants to pick me up in germantown???
-
Bearman, I'm jealous that you got to drink wine in Nick Cave's dressing room lol. You should share that photo with us of you and mr. cave!
On another note, I'm glad to hear that the setlist wasn't much different from Sunday's gig. I was afraid that he would've performed one of my favorite songs and I would've missed it.
Lastly...Samantha, your offer is tempting as all get out. But I have class early in the morning tomorrow and therefore I have to be good. I just hope that Nick will be back to DC in 2009 or 2010.
-
who wants to pick me up in germantown???
-
I have class until 3 today (crap I'm going to be late) and then at 11 tomorrow morning. Philly is a 3 hour drive from my place. I am absolutely torn, dunno what to do....
PS. Bearman, how come you didn't say hi to me backstage?? Pshhh! I was waaaaiting. I would've come and said hi to you, but my legs were dead. I needed to stay seated.
-
I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one here who didn't go backstage. ;)
-
Don't feel bad, I didn't get backstage either. I was hoping to, but nope wasn't cool enough. Though I was lucky to get someone from the band's management to go backstage for me and get nick's autograph.
Oh and Samantha, just curious, where do you go to school? I'm at University of Maryland. Just figured that I'd ask :)
-
Ehh...it doesn't make me feel bad.
I typically like to go to a show, see it then leave. It's just funny that so many people both from here and not from here were able to get back there on one or both nights.
Still awesome that you were able to get something signed, though.
-
Samantha, were you back there? Jeez...are you serious? I guess the evening is more of a blur than I thought, LOL. I'm so sorry that I didn't see you! I was hanging out with a couple of buddies of mine, and then chatting with a couple Bad Seeds. It was a really fun time, lots of people back there.
-
Haha yeah I got the feeling you didn't see me, but I don't think I could've caught your attention if I tried! You were quite the little social butterfly! But we can meet up anytime, Bad Seeds definitely take priority. I basically planted myself and if I talked to anyone it's cause they came to my neighbourhood. I'm such a bum! You must show us that picture of you and Nick!
saint, I just take a couple classes at NOVA. Not worth missing Nick Cave over...fuuuuuck.
Oh and sweetcell, it was lovely meeting you too!
Good Lord I want to go to Philly. I think I've talked myself out of it.
-
warren ellis looks just like the guy that i give $1 to every week.
great shows. hopefully it won't be six years until the next one.
-
thedirector turned to me and asked, "since when is rick ruben part of the bad seeds?!?" :D
-

I understand what you're saying! I had a class last night that I should've skipped, even though it would've been a bad idea (my professor is a hard ass about everything!). I'm now kinda wishing I went to last night's show. If anything, just to meet Nick. I gotta ask, how did you manage to get backstage?
-
For me it was a friend who played once upon a time with one of the Bad Seeds. Unless I know the band personally somehow or I'm with someone that knows them, I really don't feel like I belong there and it can be awkward to stand around, because that's the band's private space. If they're happy to have people come hang out, then it can be a lot of fun, but it doesn't take much for things to get weird. But every now and then I randomly end up there purely by chance. There was the time Lily and I got invited to hang with the Chemical Brothers and we were the the bright spot in that dressing room, and there were maybe 7 or 8 of us total. You just never know when luck may play into it when you meet someone at a show. It's good to be an extrovert!
-
Oh I totally know what you mean. Back in September 2006, I somehow ended up backstage with Massive Attack. That happened the first night of their gigs at the club. It was pretty awesome. I just stood outside the dressing room area upstairs after the show was over. I was hoping to get an autograph and this guy was like "You can come back here and join the party" so I did. Coolest moment for me was 3D pouring me a glass of champagne. We talked for half of the party about music and writing, which was pretty damn awesome.
I won't lie, I was kinda hoping the same thing would've happened for me Sunday night, but after I got my autographed album cover handed back to me, I chickened out and decided to just go outside where my friend was waiting for me.
-

Indeed. Sounds as though a good time was had by all.
I've enjoyed Nick's music since The Birthday Party. Good to hear he genuinely still has it goin on and doesn't just phone it in as many of his era do.
-
nice meeting you to sweetcell and you director
samantha, had i seen this sooner i would've gone with you. of course dont know if we wouldve made it there on time b/c i was in class until 4.
this was my first time seeing them and i am so glad i decided to go both days - they made a new fan
i love that little bearded guy and the way the band yells ready to each other
also thought it was funny that nick would sign stuff between songs
-
Bearman, that's awesome. I want to see your picture with Nick, too! Also, since you have a copy of the set list, could you post it? Thanks!
I'm glad to hear everyone enjoyed the show(s) so much!
Just out of curiosity, what are everyone's favorite NC&tBS albums? I have them all, but I find myself coming back to "Henry's Dream" the most often. I just love the harmonies on that album.
-
Haha Cali it's a good thing you didn't...ugh, it would have been totally irresponsible, I was too tired and can't afford it...BUT THAT DOESN'T STOP ME FROM KICKING MYSELF FOR NOT GOING.
I'm sitting at home moping.

Do you know if they even had tickets available? Would really suck to go all that way up there only to find out the show was sold out and no one on the street was selling any. Yet, I understand your desire for wanting to go. The man puts on an incredible show.

Do you know if they even had tickets available? Would really suck to go all that way up there only to find out the show was sold out
give us a little credit, we would've checked first and made sure we had a way in

I've never gotten shut out of a show when looking for extras outside But I still wouldn't travel 2.5+ hours empty-handed knowing in advance that a show is sold out.
-
haha I dunno if there were tickets for Philly or not, didn't look...did it sell out? I'm sure we would've gotten in fine. I got into Monday's sold out show without buying a ticket, no problems!
Uuuugh Cali...we should've gone!! Haha ok maybe not...but still!
TOTAL NICK CAVE WITHDRAWAL!

TOTAL NICK CAVE WITHDRAWAL!
Me too. It's been 4 days and I still haven't been able to get seeing The Mercy Seat live out of my head. Unbelievable. Shoulda gone both nights. Unbelievable.

I too am in Nick Cave withdraw. I usually recover quickly from concerts unless they're surreal. Why was this one surreal? Because I never thought I'd ever see him and the band live in person!
I have this cool poster of Nick when he was maybe still in the birthday party. His hair is all ratty cool looking and he's wearing this "I hate the police" type tshirt. It's a really awesome poster that I've owned for the last 4 years or so. The poster sits over the night stand in my bedroom back home in Frostburg.
So last night, I come home from college and I walked into my room. I stood there in front of the poster, looking at it and just said out loud "I still can't believe I fucking saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I still can't believe I got him to sign my singles collection album cover..."
Needless to say, I went to bed with the Let Love In album playing on my stereo.

Dreams really do come true.
