Who all is in for Saturday's show with these lengends?
I'm DJing and looking for some suggestions as to what sort of tunes to bring along....
-
me
-
Miss P and I will be there as well.
-
I'll be making a rare appearance (I now work Sun-Thur nights). As for tunes to DJ, that's a tough call. I'm sure the majority of the audience will be past the age of trust but not necessarily nostalgic. Wire's music has been all over the place during their 30+ years. Of the most recent, Object 47 seems to harken back to the late 80s while Send sounds like it could be released 10 years from now and still sound futuristic. Kosmo, you might try some No Wave, a little goth, Chameleons and their ilk, early techno (pre-rave scene), recent dance rock. BTW, I just got the first two Polyrock CDs. Holy shit, those were fun!
-
yeah the different phases of their career along with their opener locally based Tone is making the overall selection a bit of a head scratcher... ravedubin suggested some along the lines of Explosions in the Sky... so i'm looking around for some heavier shoegazer band and considering bands like Mission of Burma, The Black Angels, a track from the new James, The Autumns, I Am Kloot, Mugison, etc...
-
polyrock rules! very underrated new wave band.
i'll be at wire in philly.
-
Will be there (running the late show), Elastica?
-
I'm in.
-
REM's "End of the World?" 'Cause it kinda feels like that right now. There's that mention of the band too, of course.
-
of course.
-
Maybe they will play Three Girl Rhumba.

I'll be there as well. Did anyone see the 2002 tour?
-

Hopefully will get to this show. Not 100% sure yet.

Since your asking: All World Cowboy Party by Mission of Burma.

i pretty much know nothing about wire. i sorta wanted to go to the wedding present .. but mr. p says i'll like this. so we'll see.
-
Wire is an early show. Depending on how long they play, you may be able to catch the last part of the Wedding Present. I LOVE the Wedding Present, they put on a great show.
-
Ms. P, it's doable. WP won't start til 10:30 (doors open at 9 pm now, opener at 9:30). I'm tempted :)

I'm a HUGE fan of both Wire and the Wedding Present, so I was torn between seeing both for so long, but I just decided to go with Wire, since, y'know... they're old. :p

I'll be there.
-
any have any idea how setlists have been like?
-
Fujiya & Miyagi would be good for an interlude.
-
BTW, friends of mine who saw Wire in the UK recently couldn't say enough good things about their live show.
-
Awesome show. Tone were great as well.
-
It was a good show but not as good as the Wedding Present show at the Black Cat!
-
Def. an awesome show. Both bands were great. Surprised I've never seen Tone listed on other bills around here. They're from the area, no?
-
Yeah. My friend and I talked to one of the drummers (stage left) at the end of the show since we were right up against the stage. He said they're not going to be active for awhile because a couple of them have to go back to day jobs. Bummer - I did pick up one of their CDs though.
My friends wanted to go outside between Tone and Wire so we gave up some pretty awesome spots - I was actually leaning on the monitors for all of Tone's set, which is obviously a great way to lose some hearing, but it's nice for me since I'm short.

Wire setlist:

I can not decode all of it, but the lines were the encores.
Tone was the best I saw them, ever, they all did unique guitar parts instead of the all doing the same of the early years. Tone has had a bunch of local talent for years, and sadly 3 on stage last night are leaving (Stage right drummer, SL and SR (on) guitars).
I guess it was WIR last night, 3/4 were there. Liked their set, fun guys, fun show.

I took a few pics

Damn! I knew they must've played a third encore when no one followed us to the metro. That's what you get...
-
Remember, if you do not see the lights on the sides of stage turn on, and house music, do not think the show is over.
Even then, if it is the Eels, then STAY!
