i'll be at the 930 late show (sigh), groovin' to the rapture and the presets.

i meant to catch the presets at the R'n'R hotel back in august but had to bail, so this is my chance to make up my absence.

If I go see anyone, it'll be Beauty Pill.

Yep, lots going on Thursday. I can't decide between Nethers, Beauty Pill, and the von Trapp children (I'm actually serious about that one.) I'll probably just stay home so I don't hurt anyone's feelings.

I'm going to the National.  I should probably check out something new, but I really enjoyed the last National show, and I get to catch the Nethers as well.

Anyone have an idea of when Cold War Kids will hit the stage tonight?

Think the National show will sell out?

Unlikely.  No new material in a year and there are two competing hipster shows tonight as well.

Doors at 8:30.  That usually means bands at around 9:00, 10:00, 11:00.

agreed - i left the rapture show last night with the impression that these guys are going places (and no, i don't mean that they're going on tour, which they are).  i liked the energy and the diversity of their show.  great crowd, the whole place was hopping.  t'was about 2/3 or 3/4 full, not bad for a school-night late show.  it's been a long couple of weeks for me, so dancing was much needed - and danceable it was.  highly recommended.

the presets were damn good too, their sound translated even better on stage that I thought it would.  singer had good stage presence, other dude could have been a little livelier.  a great 40 minutes of electro-punk (or whatever triffling label folks stick on that genre these days).

 how was the national?

p.s. there was another underage drunk that was kicked out last night shortly after he walked in, and stuck around forever on the sidewalk arguing about the lack of refund and demanding an apology... same'ol same'ol.  my polite advice to the underaged: decide if you want to drink, or if you want to see the show.  at the 930, ya don't get both.

I was really pleased with the Rapture. Though the first time was the best, they were still very impressive last nite. I'm glad they did "Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks"  :)

I wasn't impressed with the Presets. There's just too much prerecorded stuff and the singer's voice sounds too much like the guy from She Wants Revenge...and it isn't a good thing.

I'm surprised at the low turnout, but I'm glad that there was room to move and DANCE!!

i didn't think it was that low, given the day of week and time of the show.  expecting a sell-out would be unrealistic, methinks.

absolutely.  last friday's Brand New Heavies show was slightly fuller, but there was still boogie room.  probably my favorite combo at the 9:30 - highly danceable music with space to enjoy it in.  last night was great  :)
