if you're looking for a low-key beer drinking place:

if you can get into the "brewer's lounge" or whatever at district chophouse, that's always a good option ... fado is usually solid ... RFD has great beer, no atmosphere ... clyde's has a bunch of bars, and that's right next to the phone booth

a lot of the chinese places around there have great happy hour deals on drinks, matchbox has a decent happy hour but it's always slammed ... ella's wood fired pizza is decent too, but often really busy (is the free pizza happy hour only on fridays?)

The phone booth?  Do people other than sports reporters actually say that?

Fado is as much Irish as McDonalds is Scottish.

stay away from that place that seems to be so proud of their on-site, vat brewed five choices of tapped tastebud bland.  forgot the name of it, but i think it has some sort of german or bavarian chime to the "chain restaurant charm."  it might be on corner of eighth and f.

At the risk of living up to my name, there's a Coyote Ugly not far at all!

Don't, er, knock Hooters for cheap beer.

I had read (washington post?) that Nanny's was being "updated" by the owners of Bedrock Billiards.

My habit is to go to Zola when I'm down there because they serve lobster rolls at the bar

Coyote Ugly was hideous... I went there once, in an effort not to be narrow-minded, and it was awful, awful.  Lots of lonely aging frat-boy types staring with frog eyes at the hawt girls on the bar, as if one of them might go home with them -- which of course would never happen.

One time I sat at the bar at Fado on an off night and ordered the Indian curry chicken.  Asked the bartender what he thought of it, and he said, in a thick accent, "I think it tastes like shite, but people seem to like it."   But it was OK.

Coyote Ugly is now the R+R BaR ... OK place. multiple floors. Some lounging areas here and there.  Lucky Strike is OK for pre-Wiz game noshing and drinking.  And you don't have to go back outside to enter the V Ctr, just go down the escalator, pass the movie theater box office to the doors of the arena.

i highly recommend the buffalo burger at RFD.  ordered rare and accompanied by a belgian witbier = bliss.

stay far far away from the indian place on 7th across from Fado's/RFD and just south of hooters... disgusting.

Makes sense.  They also own Atomic and Aroma on that stretch...
