As with all complex issues,
 I always use a handy cultural yardstick: W.W.C.D?
 
 What would Dick Cheney (http://www.dearmary.com/mary/index.html) do?  Dick avoided Vietnam, didn't get shot by the Viet Cong, lived to spawn significant progeny who are now worthwhile contributers to a healthy, vibrant society.
