Title: Ottobar
Post by: Disaffection on June 29, 2003, 11:40:00 pm
Anyone been to the Ottobar before? I'm drivin up from DC tomorrow to see Ultimate Fakebook, The Reunion Show, and Fallout Boy.  How does it compare to 930?  Also, what's the parking situation like - is the neighborhood safe?

ottobar is topnotch.  capacity is ~600, so its smaller than 930.  cheep beers.  much better compared to the old ottobar.  plus, you might find one of the dudes from sixty watt shaman running around during the night. lock your car and hide your valuables.  same rules apply.

Found this old thread and wanted to see if anyone had current info on the parking situation @Ottobar. Is there private lot parking like @9:30? If so, where is this lot located? Thanks in advance!

You will have no problems, providing you don't park in the bus stop. If you get there early enough, you may very well get street parking. If not, there is FREE parking in the back of the club. There is also a FREE lot to the side of the club. If you opt for the back lot, it's probably easiest to access via the alley, I think along 26th St.. It will all make sense once you get there.

My favorite area venue by far.  I wouldnt worry about parking.  Ive never had a problem finding one in a decent, lit area.  I usually aim for the back lot though.

And it holds around 600?  I could have swore no more than 400 could squeeze into that place, but I wouldnt know the difference.

I think the old post was referring to a different location.

Also, big ups to Disaffection.  He may like shitty music, but he likes it years before anyone else!

yeah pretty sure ottobar capacity is 400.... the new side lot is nice to have, although haven't parked there myself.

i've had friends mugged walking home from the ottobar before (recently) but that can really happen anywhere, especially in baltimore.

the old ottobar could hold maybe 25 people lol

I didnt realize there was an old one.  I only went to shows there after January 05, and the place seemed pretty old then.

The old ottobar was a dump.  But, it was still fun to go there.  Ah, the olden days of 2000.

Isn't the old Ottobar the new 8X10?  I know I'll sound like sweetcell here, since I haven't been, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

The old Ottobar was located on 203 E. Davis St.  It was a small glorious dump of a space... stage/bar on first floor, and pool table, bar, room with couches on 2nd floor.  This is what it looks like now:

After the Ottobar moved to its current location, the space on Davis St became The Talking Head Club, which has since moved next door to Sonar.

That is it...I can still remember seeing Les Savy Fav open for Enon forever ago.  Seems like just yesterday...I used to go there all the time.  It was fun.

Just a joking reference to a post you made about the Black Cat's backstage.  If I had more time, I'd search for it, but it was something along the lines of "I've never been myself, but here's a complete and thorough account of all backstage-related miscellany."

The old Ottobar was dumpy, but that?s what made it great at the same time.  My two favorite shows there were At the Drive-In and The Promise Ring.

My favorite show at the old ottobar would definitely have to be Unsane.

Can you buy advance tickets at the ottobar? Or are advance tickets online only?

the new one is a dump too. i do however like the little ledge they have along the wall where you can sit then stand for the show.

the parking lot in the back of ottobar is now well lit.

at least that was the case last night. I didn't see that light before.

i love the ottobar and the sonar club stage....that's about it in Baltimore.

So how were the Ravonettes?  I have a friend who went, said insanely loud, and they had tons of technical problems.

they had to stop after 3 songs because they couldn't hear the backing tracks. It was eventually fixed and they played for a whole hour (including encore). I was very pleased with the last hour esp. since there were a few surprises in the setlist. Yes, it was very loud and they used strobe lights..also, the Black Angels slayed...
