i'm attending a show the patriot center in november, and wanted to go to a restaurant/bar for some drinks and good bar grub beforehand that's not the normal tgifriday, chili's, applebees, ect... crap. any suggestions?
-
sadly, not really. fairfax is the nations capital of chain bars.
-
I go to the Patriot Center for good bar grub.

Fairfax has a poor bar scene. The closest bar to the patriot center would be Fat Tuesdays(located within University Mall Shopping Center), which is terrible. Buffalo Wing University, Old Shabeens, and TT Reynolds, which are in Fairfax city are some options..though I'm not a big fan of either of those places.
Tailgating in the parking lot is your best bet.

You're not looking very hard.

yeah, but the line for beer at patriot is running the risk of missing half the show. plus popcorn and pretzels isn't exactly what i had in mind. sushi, veal ravioli, or a nice blue crabtini would be nice.

veal is murder

I agree that tailgating is probably the best option. Fat Tuesdays although it sucks, is the closest bar to the Patriot Center. There's a few other bars in that University Mall across the street) I'd recommend there first before TT's which you'd then have to drive down 123 to Pat Cent and risk getting pulled over as you pass the police station and courthouse.

Have you tried the cruelty-free food at The Birchmere? They use only the finest soy veal in their ravioli.

i had a quite lovely piece of weiner schnitzel with roasted potatoes whilst in austria (vienna) a few years back. while i would not normally have paired with it a beer (perhaps a syrah or even a rioja), i figured that i would try it with a local brew. mmmmmm.

If the 930 Club had veal ravioli, would you go more?

I'll cheer when you break 300 pounds and have a coronary at 52. :p

Sadly, these zingers have yet to get old.

jammin java in vienna has a full menu and bar.

I always go to Fat Tuesdays before events at the patriot center and I like it. I park and walk across the street so i don't get stuck in taffic plus i don't have to risk driving anywhere after a whole lot of drinks. Their happy hour isn't bad and I think it goes till 7. Food is expensive but I hardly ever eat there. Gets kinda crowded depending on the show so sometimes you have to get there early for a table. Brions grille is across the street too and their food is better but drink specials aren't as good.
As for all the other bars mentioned I wouldn't go to them before a show since they aren't within walking distance and for some reason cops love drunk people.

I go to Jammin' Java for the background Evangelical Christian flavor.
-
There are a few decent bars in Fairfax, I wouldn't call them great...
TT Reynolds
Patriot's Cafe
Fast Eddies
Thursdays
