Hey, we need one. I hardly see any of you anymore. Much less get CD reviews from any of you. (cough cough). Maybe i need to go to more shows that don't involve Exit Clov or BigYawn, eh? I'll be at the Hives, if anyone cares.
Seriously, Kosmo, can we talk to Seth about this?
-
it better not be at a 21+ place or I will bite all of your heads off

its summertime jerky, who wants to sit home and write CD reviews? thats for cold/rainy days :)
i got a review for that Exit Clov band you might want to hear, haha.

any more good shows coming to Fort Reno Park? That might incentive. Free entertainment...woo-hoo! Or maybe Screen on the Green (I won't be here for "Whatever happened to Baby Jane" unfortunately).

Care to share who the lucky artist was? Or what you thought?
On a side note, i just bought a book called the Great Indie discogrophy, 1500 pages of allmusic type stuff on indie bands. Awesome book. It is the second edition, and in the back they list bands that didn't make the cut from the first edition. Mostly cause there are now books on Metal and Electronic that already cover those bands. Well, apparently relevance was also an issue, cause at the end of that list of cut-outs, was The Waterboys. I thought of you instantly. :p

I bought "Finally woken" by Jem.
Not bad...not "life altering" but very listenable....my review is this.
If Dido and David Gray had a baby it would be Jem. This new artist from Cardiff, Wales, has the voice and lyrical style of Dido and adds the electronica touches of David Gray. The result is an easy listening album that one needs not skip through the tracks to find a favorite because they are all equally enjoyable.
-
I saw that one in the $2 section at Soundgarden, but passed on it. Passed on her Iota show, too. The Dido references are enough to put me off.

We haven't reviewed the album yet, but it's ok. The first single was quite catchy actually, though I have forgotten the name of it.

Jem is very cool. Saw her at Fletchers not too long ago. good performer. beautiful British chickie (and there's not many)
DJ Adam Freeland helped produced the album. If you know who that is, you can figure why the beats are nice.

I beg your eff'n pardon!!! Oh ye from the land of Celine Dion!
There's shitloads of beautiful British women....there's shitloads of ugly slappers too, but hey! Someone's got to look after the doodle GI's while they're over there.

Did you buy it because you saw her on The OC?

No, because I heard a couple of her songs on XM....besides, I don't watch the OC anymore, got tired of chasing it when they were trying to find a good night/time for it. That and the fact the story ends up being the same each week (or did) rich ex-boyfriend does something stupid.....the rough kid bails him out....girlfriend nearly bonks rough kid but goes back to rich boyfriend. I do miss the MILFS though.
Brennser...what's up with Dido? Not cool, indie and hip enough for you? She's pleasant listening during Sunday breakfast or while relaxing with a bottle of vino or something.

she's just not my cup of tea....that and the fact that her hit songs have been played to death on what passes for radio in this country

Thankfully I don't have to listen to FM at all (apart from click and clack for an hour every Saturday morning) or I'm sure I'd feel the same about her.
Rory loves to dance to Dido, unfortunately he has the dancing skills of his dad, which looks cute at his age...and will look cute on me again in another 25 years!!!!!

Celine Dion does not represent most Canadian women!! unfortunately neither doesn Shania Twain or Neve Campbell but a lot of the more famous british women are ho hum. you people must like talent over looks or something!!
Beth Orton wins the hot british chick award in my book.

LOVE click and clack!!

Thught you'd be interested to know that the MILFS are 35 and 37 respectively (35 is Julie Cooper, though she was 33 when they filmed the first season; actually, last week I'd read she's 32, which is more insane).

"To revisit season one, or catch up on the lives of those in Newport's hot cul-de-sac, FOX is releasing the first 27 episodes in October. According to Josh, the DVD will include a behind-the-scenes tour of the real Orange County and deleted scenes with commentary."

While I love that the HBO series come out on DVD because I don't subscribe, does anyone else think the t.v. shows issued on DVD is getting just nuts and out of control? They're releasing nearly everything, even the major networks (Freaks and Geeks, sure, but Wonder Woman with Linda what's-her-name? That show is nostalgic for us 'cuz we were kids, but it's crap. Oy vey...Oh, and Battle of the Superheroes, animated. Huh???)

Thank God. I'm going outta my cotton-pickin' mind w/ the lack of shows I've attended lately and too much work. Shows are picking up though, starting this week.
Lemme know if I can help.
redsock I thought I saw you the other night. Shows how long it's been...this guy definitely resembled you. I didn't say hello - no Clovettes behind him - I determined it was not you. ;) (I jest!)
-
at the very least, I hope to see a bunch of you on Thursday at the Ted Leo show (who doesn't like that little munchkin?)

Nah, got it through amazon, a lot cheaper. Where was it you think you might have saw me? Believe it or not I don't always travel with the Clovettes.

The club, Sat. night. (Blah show btw! Just not my thang.) Nah, I knew it wasn't you despite no Clovettes. (let's just say his buddies weren't the "brightest". It's a compliment. ;) )

I love books like this, very glad to read about it. I've now got a copy on the way.

It's worth it. Especially for music freaks like us boardies. And surprisingly covers a real variety. Certainly missing folks, but that will always be the case. Also, it gives more of a history on the bands than allmusic does.

Stopped by Tower to take a look at the Guide. Wow - It's friggin' huge. Very tempted to buy it, but ended up walking out with a handful of CDs instead. I'm sure I'll breakdown and get it very soon though. Thanks for the tip.

Heheh. I would have bought it too - but I walked out w/ three other music books. I'll probably order online as redsock did.

Back to the topic at hand, I talked to the man behind the curtain at the Hives show and he will run the suggestion up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes it...
