Why does a dog lick its balls? Cuz it can.
Why do these fucking yahoos need to strap a gun on to go to Starbucks? See first question.

Or go to Bug Me Not (http://www.bugmenot.com/) and access the page that way.

Virginia has the 27th highest murder rate, Maryland is 2nd. Virginia must be doing something right.

So are you saying you support the idea of people carrying like this in public or are you just trying to stir the pot?
-
Yes, it's because Virginia is shaped like a ramp, while Maryland is shaped like a broken pot.

It certainly doesn't bother me. (MD resident weighing in)
-
Never thought about it. Certainly not against people being able to own guns, but don't know about carrying in public. Don't have any guns myself, except for my 24" biceps.

Is this supposed to be, like, a help, or something?
-
Yeah I also think responsible citizens should be allowed to own guns....but this whole packin in public thing just seems kinda disgusting to me.

Viginia's also 47th in Ricketts Prevention.

Agreed.
On a side note, bringing a gun into starbucks is a total faux pas. Don't they know they should pack an issue of the New York Times instead?

Nope, not at all.

Funny you should mention Rickets. This morning my wife and I took our 4 month old son to the Dr. for a checkup. The Dr. said we should be giving him a multivitamin (some drops they sell) once a day - that all breast-fed babies should do this. We wondered why seeing as when our 2 1/2 year old was breastfeeding they never told us to do this and Dr. said it's because Rickets are on the rise in breast-fed babies. Something about mothers and babies not getting enough outdoor sunlight resulting in lower vitamin d intake for kids....hence RICKETS!
-
I bet you get better service if you're displaying a sidearm.

So, then take the baby out to the beach and see if he'll tan. Problem solv-ed.

Are you crazy? That would take away from our daily 8 hours of family TV time!
Plus, Henry is really fair. Best to just keep him indoors.

maybe not. but this explains why there are so many more stupid people in Virginia. No one is kiling any of them!
-
Sorry Slappy. Maryland lags Virginia in the intelligence category (http://www.morganquinto.com/edrank.htm) also.

The reason MD is higher than VA on the murder top 50 is MD has Baltimore and PG county and VA doesn't. Richmond....ooooooh bad ass city that is!
Seriously though, guns are for one purpose only...to kill stuff, so why the hell does anyone need to OWN one let alone carry one in public. If people like to shoot innocent unassuming wildlife (which should also be illegal but that's a whole other discussion) then they should be forced to keep their guns locked up at the "murder wildlife club" then sign them out before they go on their murder spree and then sign them back in when it's over.
-
People should be allowed to own guns. If not, only the cops and military would be allowed to own guns...and that's like giving all the guns to the most stupid and dangerous types of people.

So we should be allowed guns so we can shoot back at our military and cops?
-
We should allow citizens to own guns to potentially protect themselves from evil tyrants who wun the government.

Hitler was in favor of gun control, too.

Richmond's murder rate is practically the same as Baltimore's (http://statestats.com/cit02r.pdf) Actually, it's a bit higher.

That's what voting booths are for, unless you're a Florida resident.

Do you work with Rhett by chance?
Here's another statistic about Richmond for you.
They don't bury their dead in Richmond, they prop them up at bars instead.
-
Surely Charlton Heston could shed some light as to why there are so many murders in some of these cities.

I'll give you a hint: it's not from legally owned firearms.
-
Watch it buddy! I used to live in Richmond and spent loads of time propped up in bars!

You wouldn't have the right to vote if it wasn't for this country's fore fathers and their possession of "evil guns".

thank you for giving another reason why we don't need them everywhere, they aren't necessary for change anymore

And how do we assess that someone is a responsible citizen? Just because he doesn't have any criminal record? Can't see any valid criteria. I am not from here and no longer live in the US, but I think no one should be allowed to own guns.

Let me clue you in on something....
Them Britishers or Injuns ain't coming anymore!
So remind me again why you need your guns, unless it's to compensate for shortcomings somewhere else.

All valid points here.....and I think coming up with this criteria is really the issue. In my perfect world no one own gun either but that's just not realistic for this country. Better control is the really the best we can hope for.

Let me clue you in, it's not the British or Indians I'm worried about.
You'd be a fool to give up any of your rights because who knows what the future holds. Unless you've got a crystal ball you're not telling us about.
Shortcomings? I probably haven't fired a gun in over a decade, but that doesn't mean I don't believe we should give up those rights.

It's technically a privilege....if it's a 'right' then why is a convicted felon not allowed to own one, wonder why? I know they can't vote either, but that's just nonesense imho.
Either way, you go back to putting your trucks on blocks and I'll go hug a tree and we'll agree to disagree.

HA, that was great. I don't know dirt about Richmond, but it's just a great line...

Considering it's contained in the Bill of Rights, I'd argue otherwise.

Your petty attempts at insults detract from any points you may try to make in your arguement. But I'll go ride my bike, thank you very much.
Don't worry though, Dubya and Ashcroft probably aren't done shredding your rights yet. Give them a little time and they'll probably ban guns (except for your "government protectors"). You know, so the terrorists won't get a hold of them. I'm sure you'd feel safe then.

Around 4,000 kids a year are killed in the US by guns. And that's during a good year. In the late 90's that number topped 5,000 a few times.
-
Over 110,000 deaths in America in 1996 were directly attributable to alcohol.
http://www.reconsider.org/issues/public_health/estimated_deaths_.htm (http://www.reconsider.org/issues/public_health/estimated_deaths_.htm)
What was your point?

Uhhh....I think my point is pretty freaking clear. Don't you think that 5,000 dead children is way too many? Or are you saying that the high number of deaths due to alcohol makes it a non-issue? I didn't think so.
That's another thread Mr. Contrarian.
-
There were 17,448 drunken driving deaths in 2001.
Most of these were innocent victims, not the drivers themselves.
This is very sad, and the deaths of innocent people (some of them no doubt being children, which is ALWAYS sadder than the death of an adult) were pointless.
Therefore, we should ban alcohol use.

Don't put words in my mouth. I never once suggested a ban on firearms.
Sure alcohol abuse and its results are a huge problem in the US. Some would say it's a much bigger problem than gun violence....but that's not the point we're discussing here is it?
-
Ok, I was just questioning your point in making the statement below. Often, on this board, people make emotional pleas as evidence for their arguments. Thus, I incorrectly assumed that was what you were doing.
I agree with you. The numbers below are sad.

How many non-doodles on here are in favour of having everyone walk around with guns?
Just wondering if it's strictly a doodle thing.
-
Nice spin on the words there. I've got no problem with someone owning a gun. That's their business. Walking around with it is a different story.
