 Most overrated: Loretta Lynn's album

-
				Bowie - Reality
Morrissey - You are the quarry

 Honorable mention

Just so we're clear, those are the only three CDs you bought this year, right?
-
burning brides is awful! i did like the VB and SM albums though

-
The only three he has bought this year that were released in 2004 (or post-1990 for that matter)

But in all fairness, I myself have probably bought no more than 10 or so 2004 releases.

Morrissey - You are the quarry
The Waifs - Up all night

 Honorable mention

-
				Morrissey, "you are the quarry"

 Franz Ferdinand

Wilco "a ghost is born" (although not nearly as good as Yankee Foxtrot)

 Kanye West "The College Dropout"

 The Walkmen "Bows + Arrows"

Belle & Sebastian "Dear Catastrophe Waitress"

...too name a few...let me think about it a little more.

 4. Bobby Bare Jr.

If so, add it to my list, too lazy to edit.

I haven't bought enough CDs this year for a very comprehensive list, but....

 Burning Brides -- Excellent
TV on the Radio -- Very Good
 Mountain Goats -- Very Good
 Icarus Line -- Very Good
 Franz Ferdinand -- Very Good

I was kind of disappointed in Sonic Nurse.  It sounds like Murray Street outtakes.  It's Murray Street without the grab.  Perhaps it will grow on me.

I haven't heard the new Wilco, !!!, or Von Bondies yet.

I'm looking forward to the new Q And Not U.
-
alright, i was wrong about belle & sebastian but I know for a fact that "Hail to the Thief" was definitely 2003.  What about Snow Patrol "Final Straw"?  That's some solid pop there.

when is your next show, I can give you the Wilco and Von Bondies

and I think the Sonic Youth album is strong based mostly on the Kim songs, especially Dude Ranch Nurse

-

Morrissey - You Are the Quarry
Federico Aubele - Gran Hotel Buenos Aires
 Ponys - Laced With Romance
 Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
Mu - Afro Finger & Gel
 Franz Ferdinand - s/t

Yep.  That would be my most listened to Album of this year.  I'm not sure what that means, but it deserves mentioning on this list.

-
				les savy fav--inches
 sonic youth--sonic nurse
 blonde redhead--misery is a butterfly
 walkmen--bows + arrows
 modest mouse--good news....
 gbv--half smiles

kind of a meh year so far. could be saved by the last elliot smith disc, though. among others
-
To those already mentioned, I would like to add:

 Ambulance Ltd. LP
The Blueskins - Word of Mouth
Hope of the States -The Lost Riots

There are a lot of important releases still to come out this year... Including albums from my two favorite bands (Idlewild + Interpol).
-
Jeez, just when I realize I'm going into debt buying cds, I still need to go get some more (from reviewing everyone's lists)
 Air
 Snow Patrol
Anything else was produced late 2003 with promotion in this year.
 What about Damien Rice?
-
I spent the early part of 2004 obsessing over 2 late bloomers from 2003:

TV on the Radio ~ Young Liars EP
The National ~ Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers

2004 Releases that have really captured my attention:

 Dandy Warhols ~ Black Album
 Icarus Line ~ Penance Soiree
Pixies ~ Wave of Mutilation (I hate to put a comp on here, but this one??s so good I??ll make an exception)
Pearl Jam ~ Live Acoustic @ Benaroya Hall (I??ll bring all you hipsters back around eventually!   ;)  The band and E.V. have never sounded better. Contains GREAT versions of the Ramones ??I Believe in Miracles? ?? Dylan??s ??Masters of War? - J Cash??s ??25 Minutes to Go? )
Blueskins ~ Word of Mouth (Thx Hannah!)
Joel R. L. Phelps & the Downer Trio ~ Customs

2004 Releases that I need to spend more time with
 Franz Ferdinand
 Snow Patrol
TV on the Radio ~ Desperate Youth?

& At year??s end, I??ll be very surprised if these don??t make my final list based on what I??ve heard so far:
 Twilight Singers
 Drive-by Truckers
 Black Keys
 Interpol

Listening to this right now and I agree - it's brilliant.  I've always enjoyed acoustic Pearl Jam from their first Unplugged right through all of the benefit shows - great songwriting lends itself to be stripped down and played acoustically.  I'm with you on this one Grotty.
-
				black eyes-cough
 sonic youth-sonic nurse
 Devendra Banhart-rejoicing in the hands
Mountain Goats-we shall all be healed

 i'm sure there are others.
but i can't remember at the moment.
-
I still want to pick up Sonic Youth, the Orbital, and the new Charlatans (if it ever makes it across the pond).   bunnyman - I have the charlatans cd - be happy to burn you a copy if you'd like

 Twilight Singers
grotty - 3 mp3s from the new covers album available  here (http://www.onelittleindian-us.com/thetwilightsingers.html)

I get more goose bumps per song/dollar ratio from this record than all other 2004 releases combined. The version of Lukin is just jaw-dropping & when he says during the Black coda - "You try"...Wow...The crowd is amazing. I would have loved to have been there.

Sam Phillips - A Boot And A Shoe
 Snow Patrol - Final Straw

				da experts opine! (http://www.thescout.net/reviews.html)

kinda surprised to see modest mouse featured so heavily - its a good, but not a great album....then again as folks have noted 2004 is a down year

 *ducks*
-

I'm gonna throw Franz Ferdinand on that pile also. I just can't get this.

Gently used copy 4 Sale Cheap. Never been played the entire way through.

And for the record...I don't believe that 2004 is a such a down year. What makes it worse than 2003?

I think folks said the same thing at this point last year.  The old adage about the good albums coming out in the latter half of the year seems to be holding true.

Exactly - I can't remember being this excited for a bunch of records to come out (8/24 BOTH DBT & Twilight Singers. Coincidence? No way. Now *that's* a super Tuesday) I think by years-end I'll be pretty happy with what I've added.
