Title: Dead Can Dance presale
Post by: blusher94 on August 01, 2005, 11:27:00 pm
Ticketmaster is showing a presale for the 10 October DCD show at the Strathmore, starting this Thursday, 4 August at 10am.

Apparently the password was sent in the last "volume" newsletter?

I've been on the 9:30 email list for ages, and although I normally get the weekly emails, have yet to hear anything about this presale.

Would somone please be kind enought to PM me with this information? Is the "volume" newsletter that people speak of different than the weekly update newsletter, and if it is, how the hell do I get on it in addition to the semi-weekly update one I'm already on?

 Much thanks!

Why are they only playing huge theaters, and why are tickets $55-75?  They're not THAT popular, are they?  I doubt they could even sell out the 9:30 club.  (I AM a fan of them, but just saying..)

i'm curious about that myself. they could most definitely sell out the 9:30 though. they've already sold enough at each of the venues to do that and more.

they have a cult following among the 4AD label crowd, of which i'm a pseudo-part, i'll admit, and it's the first time they've toured since they broke up in 96/97. i'm already going to the radio city music hall show in nyc with friends up there, and am going to the dc show too with people down here. i figure it might be the only time i'll ever get to see them...

according to stats on the dcd site, the sales so far, with percentage of venue and number of seats sold, are:

 SEPTEMBER:

 17 - United States SEATTLE - Paramount Theater - 100% (2500 - SOLD OUT)
 18 - United States SEATTLE - Paramount Theater - 66% (1700)
 21 - United States OAKLAND - Paramount Theater - 83% (2300)
 22 - United States OAKLAND - Paramount Theater - 87% (2500)
 25 - United States LOS ANGELES - Hollywood Bowl - 31% (5000)
 27 - United States SAN DIEGO - Humphreys - (?)
 29 - Mexico MEXICO CITY - Auditorio Nacional - 16% (1500)

 OCTOBER:

 1 - Canada TORONTO - Massey Hall - 70% (1900)
 2 - Canada MONTREAL - St Denis Theater - 88% (2000)
 4 - Canada MONTREAL - St Denis Theater - 56% (1200)
 5 - United States BOSTON - Orpheum - 25% (700)
 8 - United States NEW YORK - Radio City Music Hall - 36% (2200)
 10 - United States WASHINGTON DC - Strathmore Symphony Hall - (?)
 12 - United States CHICAGO - Auditorium Theater - (?)

the european tour was sold out. not too shabby...

I stand corrected then.  I'd LOVE to see them, but not for $55.  I just can't do it.

Anyone know where I can get setlists for the European tour?

from what i understand, every date on the european tour had the same set list. the people at "the show," who also did many of the recordings for the pixies' last tours, are recording every show of the tour. all the cd sets from the individual european dates are sold out, but they've put together a "best of" 2 disc set from the european tour, and i think it's fairly representative of the general set list.

you can see it here: http://dcddiscs.com/ (http://dcddiscs.com/)

five or six of them are new or unreleased songs.

Haha, it's funny that people bought the boxset of all 13 shows then.  They must TRULY be diehard fans.

i thought that was pretty funny myself. some people did the same thing for the pixies' shows, which i still think is way extravagent, but at least on their tour they changed the set list every night.

 insane.

They are superb. See the "Toward the Within" DVD if you want to know what they're like (and it's cheaper than the concert). But basically an ethereal and moody performance, with a full sound of synths, world instruments and percussion, with Lisa on the hammer dulcimer and doing her other-worldly vox, and Brendan on guitar and doing his Jim Morrison-like vox. Worth seeing, and I'll be going again. Would not miss them, especially at the Strathmore!

wow, base price of $55, plus all the fees, put even the "cheap" option at $70. thanks, but no thanks. i'll go see stellastarr for 1/4 the price.

actually tickets are $75 and $55... didn't someone say that Strathmore didn't have service charges if you purchased direct from them?

Could someone please send me the presale password? I signed up for the listserv but I'm afraid it may have been too late to catch the anouncement...

Where are the best $55-dollar seats (i.e. not front-row) at the Strathmore?  Friends of mine are trying to convince me into going, and we want to know where to sit.

What is the password for Dead Can Dance presale scheduled for 10AM today?

No information about presale provided in the current newsletter "The Doors of Perception".

just bought tix on TM. Got 2 6th row seats. Use the 2nd ordering grid, not the one with the pre-sale password ... it says "MASKS LEVEL 2 DROP DOWN MENU".  I have no idea what that means but I was still able to get tix, albeit with all the TM reaming charges attached.

What's the deal?  I was never sent a password for the presale, and I don't see the  "MASKS LEVEL 2 DROP DOWN MENU" anywhere (whatever that means).  Can someone help?

I hate when my newsletter gets lost in the mail...

seems that the MASKS LEVEL 2 DROP DOWN thing was very short-lived.  But it allowed for buying tix without a pre-sale password. Strange. Anyhow try again tomorrow.  And to avoid TM sales fees go to the www.strathmore.org (http://www.strathmore.org) website.  But you'll have to "create an account" first.
