The Nighties will be playing this Saturday, July 12th at the Velvet Lounge.
If you like your power pop poppy, and well.. powerful, it'd be wise to check them out. I'll be there.
You can check out their pop quiz (http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/archives/indc/popquiz/2003/pop0502.html) or their website (http://www.thenighties.com).

Can I be the first to call this blatant street teaming?
-
After that whole street team debate, I thought I'd give it a shot. I've got cred, don't I? Plus, I utilized UBB code for sweet effects.

Watch out -- Street Teamer, Street Teamer!!!
Seriously, they sound right up my alley. I'm a bit worried I'll be too beer-soaked from the GBV Live on Penn show (which is also the reason I can't get anyone to go to B'more to see the Buzzcocks with me that night...)
If I'm conscious, I'm there!!
-
Bags, you would be in top condition to see The Nighties. They would be a fantastic way to close the evening. They have literally been described as Guided By Pavement.
-
Thirsty, you've got more cred than anyone on this board, except maybe kosmo, which is leading me to think that I need to put together a cred test for the battle for cred on the board.....

Enough with the street teamer humor!!! I think its safe to say someone with a member number under 150 is obviously credible. Is the velvet Lounge a decent palce to see a show? Might head out to the Washington Social Club show there this Friday. Another band all the street teamers on the board have good things to say about. Some good songs on their site too.
-
for the record i have no cred because i would never use that word... i'm just a wally that tosses 'bout the occasional british slang word. know what i mean vern?

Go go go go go go. That's on order. GO!
And Thirsy, that's it, I'm there for the Nighties!!!
Yup, you and Kosmo are doing me right these days. Listening to Idlewild as we speak, and I'm digging it.

i think the nighties are taking a hiatus or something after this show, so it could be the last time to see them. its also the first time john bustine's played in a while so get there early to catch him.
-
I hope you all don't forget that those lovable Nighties are playing Saturday, July 12th at the Velvet Lounge.
-
how could we forget? <img src="http://zerochance.net/streetlogo.gif" alt=" - " />

Hey that's a good one Markie, I'll use that on your Fall topic.
-
i dont actually know members of the fall. Therefore I am much les emotionally attached to them than you are your nightie.
I thought the fall would be an interesting show, and possibly quite awful. Turned out to be fantastic.

I'll be there, and hope to have three or four in tow, though they tend to show their age a bit more than I and are skeptical of a late night after Live On Penn. I will carry on, however!

I understand completely!
Amazing how some degenerates can pull it off and appear so "cool". If the rest of us would try something like that, we would be laughed at and booed so far out of town that we'd need to pay departure taxes. I mean, the guy couldn't even carry a tune for a half a second if his life depended on it. And don't tell me it's for the lyrics. I don't think even Mankie could have understood what the Hell he was mumbling about.

Okay, who all is going to see The Nighties? There's a chance I may be in town with some friends and looking for something to do. I don't like Power Pop at all but it may be a fun night. Would rather see The Buzzcocks in Baltimore but might involve too much driving. Who knows what will happen.

buzzcocks and nighties?...sounds like a fun night...

Great set last night. Did anyone stick around after The Nighties to see the acoustic set by the guy from Woolly Mammoth?
-
I didn't stick around after the Nighties -- a day in the sun, and rain, drinking beer was too much. Oh yeah, and being yelled at by the bartender at Velvet Lounge.
Really enjoyed the Nighties. Met the lead guitarist, Chris, at the bar and mentioned that they had good buzz on the 9:30 club forum, which got me to the show.
I started talking to him because I was curious if the swarm of people at the bar around 11:00 were there for the Nighties, for another band, or just for Velvet Lounge. And he's the guy I decided to ask, "what brought you here tonight." He was a bit sheepish because he had to respond that he's in *two* of the bands playing that night. Too funny.
I will definitely be a Nighties regular. Was a lot of fun, lot of energy, good stuff.
Saw Paul, the singer, at the New Pornographers show last night. I think the Nighties show was better (though Neko Case rules).
