while the obsession with naming shit after reagan is pretty commical to begin with, something about the great communicator making the grid even more confusing is just real awesome

I'm gonna vomit.
Just a way to make DC as confusing as Virginia, where every major road has at least 2, sometimes 3, goddamn names. That people actually USE.

What I enjoy is that I thought D.C. citizens don't have a vote because D.C., as the seat of federal politics, is supposed to be a neutral, bi-partisan haven for our government. Yeah, so name all kinds of shit after a still-warm right-wing mother****** corpse.
If 16th Street becomes RRBoulevard, I better get a fucking vote.
-
why wont people spell cunt or motherfucker. let it all out, people
-
Hell, why not rename Pennsylvania Avenue after him. Then the white house will be on 1600 Ronald Reagan Blvd. Really from what I understand he hated DC, so naming things here after him is an insult to him. So from that perspective I am all for it.
-
glad to see tax payers money going to projects such as naming streets instead of getting my police, fixing pot holes, or helping out schools.
-
This is just another thing that metro DC folks will call by it's original name. Much like National Airport.
-
Preach on brother...(nods in agreement)

I know I'm pretty ignorant about government procedure, but shouldn't this be up to the citizens of DC to rename one of their streets rather than the federal government?

Not just metro DC people. I, and many others outside of DC, refuse to refer to it by it's other name.
Bags, you should know better. Voting doesn't stand for shit anymore in this country. You know damned well the bastards do what they want to do regardless of what the people want. Even if something is put to a vote, they still do whatever the fuck they want. Perfect example, medical marijuana. Almost all polls and any actual votes show the people want it but we don't get it. Shit, in most cases, they won't even put it to a vote because they know what the results would be. Fuckers!!!
So much for 'America, land of the free' and 'For the people, by the people'. Those days are long gone!

not in d.c.
however, the govt. can name post offices for just about anyone (http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=109_cong_bills&docid=f:h504enr.txt.pdf)

tom davis vows to kill the bill in committee:
GOP: Don't Name D.C. Street for Reagan By SOFIA MANNOS, Associated Press Writer
Thu Aug 4, 8:27 PM ET
WASHINGTON - An influential House Republican spoke out Thursday against renaming one of Washington's main streets in honor of former President Reagan, calling the proposal "ridiculous."
Rep. Henry Bonilla (news, bio, voting record), R-Texas, introduced a bill July 28 "to redesignate the street in the District of Columbia known as 16th Street Northwest as 'Ronald Reagan Boulevard.'" The street runs from the northern tip of the city to the White House.
But Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., the chairman of the House committee that oversees District affairs, promised Thursday to kill the measure.
"I think the proposal is ridiculous," Davis told WTOP radio. "We'll put it in the appropriate file."
Davis was unequivocal in his opposition to the Bonilla proposal, saying he would also object to the measure being attached to another bill.
"We've named the Ronald Reagan airport, we have the Ronald Reagan building downtown, but I think if Mr. Bonilla wants to name anything else, he ought to look to his own district in San Antonio," Davis said.
Washington Mayor Anthony A. Williams agreed with Davis.
In a statement Thursday, Williams said Bonilla should instead find "suitable sites" in Texas if he feels that more streets should be named after the late president.
"It's been a long time since I've heard of a plan that made so little sense," said Williams.
Changing signs and addresses along 16th Street would cost the city at least $1 million, Williams said.
Efforts to reach Bonilla's office for comment were not immediately successful.

If something is so ridiculous that Tom Davis thinks it's ridiculous it reaches new heights of ridicullousosity!!!

ew. that motherfucking piece of shit deserves nothing more than the thorough digestion by worms that he is being subjected to. i mean, the asshole didn't even realize he was president during most of his second term. what a dickwad.
(he's not the great communicator that he used to be, apparently.)

What is funny is as President, he signed a law saying that you have to be dead for 25 years before they can put something up for you in DC. Now they want to throw that aside to put him up sooner. Heck if they put something up, a good place to urinate on the 4th.
-
THis group is apparantly hell bent on naming SOMETHING in EVERY city in the US after him.. it's friggin retarded..
Yes fix my potholes please across my street, preach on brother is right!
-
GODDAMN IT -- there's a poll being taken on this by WTOP, and right now 44% of assholes are in favor of renaming 16th Street. FOR ONCE, only DC voters should be allowed to vote (I know, I know, it's just a poll....)
Poll here (http://wtop.com/?sid=550562&nid=400)

11% more people do not want it named RR Blvd than do. That is still an appreciable difference.

I know, I know...that it's even 10% is enough to infuriate me....but I'm an easy target on this.

internet polls are the stupidest fucking thing in the world ... the worst are these dumbass ESPN "sportsnation" polls that they try to pass off as legit ...
-
That was a classic Simpsons where Kent Brockman says:
Now, here are some results from our phone-in poll: 95% of the people believe Homer Simpson is guilty. Of course, this is just a television poll which is not legally binding, unless proposition 304 passes, and we all pray it will.
