Title: How to stuff a wild corset
Post by: kosmo vinyl on July 09, 2003, 08:46:00 am
Went last night to see a sneak preview of Pirates of the Caribbean, a movie which probably already has the Smackie seal of approval due to Keira Knightley being in a corset.

Now there were a bunch of actors in this movie I didn't recognize.  I know that Johnny Depp used to play a crap band with Gibby Haynes called P.  Who ever he is, the part was perfect for him.  Very mischievous with a poncey swagger.  Kosmette was entralled by this Orlando Bloom character, said he was in LOTR.  I didn't see any blonde cute boys in Pirates thou...  Didn't Geoffrey Rush play piano once in his careeer.  I did recognize the creepy guy from BBC's "The Office".

Anyways Kosmette and I give "Pirates of the Caribbean" two index fingers way up.  It was what a "summer" movie should be.  A good mixture of comedy, action and special affects.  (and per Kosmette pretty boys). I take witty blanter and swaskbucklin' over CGI created action sequences any day.

And again with the Orlando Bloom, he got cheers from the twinkies in the audience when he name rolled by in the credits.  He must be HOTT or something... (maybe he has  action and  cred or just a really great street team)

Final comment... it dosen't feel at all like a two plus movie, unlike matrix 2 which seem to last two lifetimes.

Growing up in Disneyland (and my favorite ride was the Pirates of the Caribbean), something about Pirate movies always makes me laugh, but you are the second person with cred to tell me that the movie version of the Pirates of the Caribbean was fantastic.

Granted, with Keira Knightly in the movie I was going to see it anyway, but now I'll see it before Charlie's Angels - which is a huge statement.  As smackette said, seeing an "ass movie" without Smackie is like not seeing a movie at all, now she must wait even longer.

 Thanks kosmo.

hmmmn. interesting. when i've seen the previews all i can think of is some bruckheimer/cameron/etc disaster that had the potential to be decent but sadly isn't. but i'm intrigued that kosmo found it decent. hmmmnn. must reponder.

though on the topic of movies. go see whale rider. its fantastic. way intense though.

Since we're on it, here's my favorite Pirates of the Carribean (PoC) moment.  I grew up in Fla, and every high school got a Grad Night at Disney World near the end of senior year.  About 100 schools each night would get the park all to themselves, along with five or six really cheesy but popular bands of the day playing in the different 'lands.'  [Man, this is going to date me.]

Anyhow, the year I went a bunch of us got on PoC.  A few minutes in, we realized that KNIGHT RANGER was on the boat ahead of us.  Holy mother of god??!!??  So everyone in our boat started singing "Sister Christian" and trying to rock the boat.  It was hysterical -- the band wouldn't look back, and when we got to the end, they jumped out of their boat and *ran* out of that ride.  So funny, as if we were going to mob them.  NOT!

Still, one of my favorite moments.

As an FYI, some of the other bands playing were Animotion, Weird Al Yankovich and Teena Marie.  Oy.

i must admit lily you just said my thoughts exactly........dodododo (psychic moment)

i can't go see whale rider though due to the fact a collegue of mine told me it was the best movie ever and then proceeded to tell me the story word for word..............feel like that is $7.00 saved really..............

pirates is apparently the first pg-13 disney has released and it's good sign that maybe good entertaining movies can be made without the t&a

Well shiver me timbers, I thought it would suck.  Maybe I'll actually rent it when it comes out on DVD.

Vicious rumors, all vicious rumors.   ;)

I'm up to 22 and under now.  And Keira Knightley in a corset for 2 hours is good enough for me.

don't know if my movie tastes bear any cred, but i concur.  this movie was incredible.  a great film for young girls to see as well.  i want to go again and take my niece.

i've decided that i'm going to move to new zealand and tattoo my face.  well, maybe only part of that will actually happen, but i wanna.

and for a slightly different take on the maori population in new zealand, you can rent "once were warriors."

though i forewarn you, its really depressing and slightly disturbing. but it too, is an excellent film.

Somehow, I still thought you were talking about Pirates of the Caribbean, and thus the young girl comment caught me a bit off guard...

but now that I see what's going on here, I agree that Whale Rider is a good film.
