Why are we honoring Ian Curtis? Sorry if this was already talked about.
-
Because he donated millions to charity, lobbied to save Africa from AIDS, and was one hell of a nice guy.

Now that's funny.

Just because we'd been wondering when to do AVALANCHE again, and it turned out that in late May the Community CD (New Order tribute/covers album) would be released then - and then of course that all coincided with Ian Curtis' death in May.
Cheers

I swear to God Medusa...one day I'll swing for you!
I thought you were telling us New Order were coming to town in May.

Yep! He was the lead singer and main songwriter...New Order came about because Joy Division broke up after his suicide in 1980. The remaining band members came back as New Order. If I remember correctly, he topped himself the day before Joy Division were due to leave for their first US tour.
That's it in a nutshell really.

You're pretty fortunate that half the board is on planes heading out west for Coachella otherwise the flaming would be relentless.

...and I hope it was duly noted that mankie didn't flame, simply explained the story. :)

A tremendous amount of restraint by the lad from Manchester is duly noted.

Allow me...
You dumb-ass motherfucker, nearly 3/4s of the bands people talk about on this board claim to be influenced by Joy Division! And you don't know who they even are? What are you going to the HFStival or something? Wait, even they have The Cure, perhaps THE band with biggest debt to Joy Division. WTF!!!
I don't really feel that way, just imitating a cross between GGW and markie. Though, c'mon man, how could you not know that?
-
He so obviously didn't see "24 Hour People."

Well done, that was very Barry from High Fidelity.
"Don't tell anyone you don't own "Closer". It's gonna be okay."

I know who Joy Division are i just dont know every single band member from every single group. And i try to ignore most of the groups that people traveling to see Coachella like cause everytime i buy a cd that they suggest, it usually sucks. But hey, thanx for not bashing me to much and if those terds wanna bash me when they get back, i'm all for it. And i promise i won't bash them in person when i do finally meet them one day. ;)

Before you ask.....mankie and Guiny are not one and the same!

Don't worry. When he died, they turned into a better band called New Order. Get a couple of their albums, and you should be set.

Not really......I think JD would've evolved into what NO became anyway, with or without Ian.
-
Yes, but would they have had the wisdom to put Bernard, who has a much more likeable voice, on lead vocals?

I think they probably would've ended up sharing the singing....Curtis for the really dark stuff and Bernard for the lighter (relatively speaking) songs.
I can't see Ian singing, "We're playing for England...ENGULAND!" :D
