Can you EVEN imagine??? Let's say 2 nights at the 9:30 Club...good God, I'd travel all over the place for that tour. Now THAT was a real band. Is Frank pulling our leg here?

To me, that would be the best news ever. Strange to see that he still plays with Kim Deal and the other members. I thought Frank Black and Kim Deal didn't get very well.

yea, old frank doesnt really seem to be selling a lot of records or pulling the crowds in anymore. I imagine a pixies reunion tour with tickets at $40 a pop would be a good source of income. I would go, but whine about it. Whats new?

I think the Pixies would be the one reunion tour that I would be completely psych me up. Honestly, against all popular theory on reunion tours, I don't see how it could be bad.

Man, the Pixies could play the opening to Debaser repeatedly for 30 minutes and I would be happy. That song is so good.

I'm so glad I discovered those guys...they really made my quality of life better. That's the beauty of music. Anyone that seriously loves music probably has at least one band or performer that they will ALWAYS have a soft spot in their heart for. For me, the Pixies was the soundtrack for adolesence...the highest of highs, the lowest of lows. Anyone else here remember seeing the Pixies at the Citadel Center in Adams Morgan in November of 1991 with Pere Ubu opening? They came out onto a stage filled completely with fog, with strobe lights flashing to look like lightning and the sound of rolling thunder over the PA. They opened with "Wave of Mutilation" (the UK surf version) and played for a good 90 minutes. It was one of those nights I'll never forget. I guess if you think they are selling out, that's cool...you're entitled to your opinion. But personally, I can't imagine a band I'd rather see reform more except maybe Husker Du (or Joy Division, if they brought Ian Curtis back from the dead). A while back there was a great article on the Pixies' breakup in some Brit mag (Uncut or Q or one of those). It mentioned that some promoter offered a huge sum of money if the Pixies ever reformed and toured Europe (where they were MUCH more commercially succesful). However, I remember the band selling out the Riviera in Chicago and would imagine they could probably do some dates at the Aragon or Roseland in NYC. But I won't hold my breath.

You're spot on. Ditto for me -- Husker Du and the Replacements. The bands with huge impact on me, but I missed by just a coupla years in order to see live (okay, I saw the Replacements in Phillie on their last tour, but I mean in their heyday, at a hole in the wall -- with Bob back from the dead).

Not sure if you are serious or not but Sebadoh is Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr. and now Folk Implosion (or New Folk Implosion) and Pavement, how could you have not heard of pavement. Stephen Malkmus, recently played here, was the front man.

Of course I have heard of them, but I had gotten outo listening to most indie/alt rock by they time they became popular. I dated someone who loved Sebadoh maybe 8 years ago, but I can't recall any of their songs. I know that Pavement song "Cut Your Hair"...it sounds like it could be a Wilco song.

If I think of some of my all time favourite bands that I would like to do a "reunion tour", Smiths, Stranglers, Clash etc. Then the more I ponder on the issue I come back to the same conclusion....let it be. If they came back and sucked it would spoil the memory of them in their heyday. Sex Pistols take note!
Some reunion shows I have enjoyed but some bands need to be left in the memory. Sex Pistols take note!

The funny thing is that just because a band does a reunion doesn't mean that they'll suck. The bands that I can think of off the top of my head that prove that theory are X, the Buzzcocks, Echo & the Bunnymen, Roxy Music, and the Damned. I've seen all of them in recent years and they have all been no less than excellent. Some shows are better than others, true, but it's pretty cool to be able to go to a place like the 9:30 Club and watch the Buzzcocks play over 90 minutes to 300 people and see them put on a set that leaves you completely on a high for a week.

this from someone eager to see The Fall... oh wait they never actaully broke up, just went on long hiatuses and retain probably only one orginial member.

I didn't see the Pixies at the Citadel, but in B-more that same tour. Was pretty darn cool. Missed them at the old club, but did see them open for Love and Rockets on the "So Alive" tour. That was a weird show, they opened with Bone Machine saying "This is our soundcheck". Love and Rockets were a mess that show. The Pixies kicked their asses big time.
I have seen many reunion shows, some great (Mission of Burma, B-52s, Camper Van, Bauhaus) some horrible (Book of Love, Jackson Browne). I guess it depends on:
(1) why they broke up
(2) who is left
(3) why did they get back together
(4) can they still play
If they broke up because of infighting, sometimes they can get it back together sometimes not. If there are key members not in the reunion then why bother. If they are doing the motions and not really liking to play that is way bad. And if they can not play well or are doing some new interpretation of their classics, f-em.

Oh I totally agree..Echo were great. Psycadelic Furs at 930 were also excellent...the double header that Echo and the Furs did at that place in SE was a bit disapointing. Echo sounded great but the Furs had some major problems with the sound.
I'm just saying that bands I put on a higher pedestal I would rather live in my memory than take a chance on them sucking.

Some bands should just never reform...Husker Du being one of them. The Velvet Underground reunion was a bad idea...but then there's X, who was brilliant. And honestly, that Rollins Band doing Black Flag songs was killer too. I love the Pixies, but I think they still ended things a bit prematurely. Husker Du ran its course and so did the Replacements.

they never seemed to go on that long a hiatus, but then its hard to work out at a quick glance if albums are real or live/B sides/ or compilations. The Fall are Mark E Smith, like The the is Matt Jonson they can never split up.
And I said I would go to the pixies and have low expectations.... I think the fall will be rather good.

Talking about reunions. Another reunion I would like to see is a Pogues reunion. I know last year they played a few shows in England and Ireland. Anybody knows what was said about those shows? They are still great musicians.

circa 9th grade: Pixies was my 2nd show ever, 1st being the Cure Disintegration tour: 20 bucks at the SD Sports Arena for around 3 hours of music. Now I'm paying 25 for Blur, who better play their oldies, goddamnit. I had to leave during the second encore, "Boys Don't Cry," with Mom parked across the lot at the Handyman hardware store.
Before the show, I was getting amped up, listening to my Surfer Rosa tape, and Dad came in to my room to tell me to turn it down and start my chores, and saw the album cover with the beautiful dancing half-naked muchacha, which got me busted and the tape confiscated.
At the show, I remember being moshed by the big college kids, Bob Mould "opening" but playing over an hour, and me, having no sense of history, giving him the devil eyes to get off the stage. Finally the Pixies came on, I got thumped around, and Kim Deal was the coolest coo-cooer ever. Then they opened for big bands in cities like LA at huge shows I couldn't make, and then they went away. Conclusion: I would love to see them again just tear it out for an hour and close it down.
