Post by: saco on January 28, 2003, 05:33:00 pm: Say what you will about Pearl Jam, I'm not the fan I was 10 years ago, but you got to give them credit for trying to broaden the horizons of their knucklehead fans. Their last tour they had Sonic Youth opening for them.

Unfortunately Idlewild and Sleater-Kinney aren't playing in this neck of the woods, but I'm excited for the Buzzcocks. Most of Sparta used to be At The Drive-In, correct?

Nissan is too fookin far, Merriweather, ditto, ...and lets not talk about the Radiohead fiasco at BullrainIdunnothename...last time Pearl Jam was in town we took cabs to the show from and back BWI... that nicked a hole in my trousers..left me in on the dole for a few weeks...never again...

I have the At-the Drive in record and I think I saw Sparta in Iceland in 2001 and thought they were loud and nothing else... kinda like McKlusky.

I'll have to dig up my festival itinerary which I still have... but I'm almost sure its them.. I remember them saying it was only their 3rd gig or summat like that... that left me wondering why someone with only 3 gigs under their belt would get an almost headlining spot in of the clubs...

The two fro guys, Cedric and Omar, are Mars Volta, while the remaining members formed Sparta. And they are from El Paso.

Any word on when the regular stiffs get to buy tix?Pretty cool choices for openers...Looks like I'll get to check out Sparta here in Pittsburgh.I know PJ takes a lot of slagging on this board and elsewhere, but I'm looking forward to seeing them. While I don't think their overall recent output is stellar there are a few worthy tracks inlcuded on each of the recent releases. I also admire the bands integrity and willingness to continue on doing things their own way. If you like them at all, check out their DVD from 2000 - Touring Band.

The last time they played at the 9:30 was absolutely stellar. One of the very best concerts I've ever seen, and hardly anybody showed up. They played for 1 hour and 45 minutes and just KILLED. I wonder how they'll fare at a gig like that.

I'm another one of the old-time hardcore fans, who just doesn't have it anymore. They keep putting out albums and I keep buying them, but I think their last 3 albums I've listened to maybe a combined total of 12 times.
