not really. I called and asked for the times of the bands tonight and they said "we don't know"
then i asked whether it might sell out "we don't know"
thanks for the info. its no wonder Sonar is getting the good shows now.

I went to go see the Team Sleep show there, and it was really lame. Security (muscle head tools) were running around the entire time sniffing peoples drinks and just making everyone feel uncomfortable. I realize places can't tolerate underage drinking, but man, it was at the risk of making everyone feel awkward.

Doors are at 7pm, first band is usually an hour after that.
Buying tix at the "box office" there sucks.

recher is still my favorite venue in the area

Yeah, these boobs probably caused me to miss a show a couple weeks ago there by saying the same things....."it may sell out,we're not sure"..."I don't know the band schedule".....well if YOU don't know, how the hell am I supposed to?!....it wasn't worth the risk of driving from D.C. especially during a nasty thunderstorm.......

smoking is allowed at the recher.
as for being a good music venue, i cant really see why. i dont see much good about it.
pretty mediocre, really. i usually enjoy shows at the Ottobar better, which doesnt allow smoking on the main floor of the club (not always enforced however)
-
Despite this (and the wind-tunnel that's created in the middle of the main floor by the AC), my clothes usually smell of smoke much worse at the Ottobar than at any other place in the area.

perhaps you spend too much time in the mens room?

The Recher Theatre's mailing list always includes both the door times and the show times on their schedule. I think it's even posted on their website. Of course, they never have anyone there who I want to see so can't tell you how accurate they are.
Don't know why they can't just print that out and post it in the box office for whomever is answering the phones or selling tickets.

They really don't have a box-office per se (surprisingly, considering the fact that the joint used to be a movie theater). If you want to get tickets in person (and avoid those pesky Ticketmaster service and handling fees) prior to the show, you have to go right next door to their Rec Room Billiards hall and request them from one of the bartenders (they keep them in a little lock box behind the bar).

nothing about what times the bands play on their site. and though the site did have door times, the ticket i bought had a different time on it. the person on the phone couldnt even verify which was correct.

Have seen several good shows there over the years. The guy that runs it is very nice, and very supportive of local music and has been for years. Buying tix at the bar makes things much easier to get tix. No box office hours and one time I got a ticket for a couple of bucks off when I ordered it with a few beers. Bartender wasn't a math major.
The only problem I have had was when I went to a show sponsored by Salem cigs. It was Biz Markie, Doug E Fresh, and Slick Rick. They ended up selling tix to the venue, the bar, and pool hall, because they would have screens set up all over. Needless to say everyone ended up on the venue side and it was wall to wall people. Worst time getting around ever.

^^^^^^
actually NO, those fucking cocksuckers at the Recher had us go into the bar/restaurant next door for the Doug E Fresh/Slick Rick/Biz Markie show saying that we could access the club from there. So after having our tickets taken we find out that isn't the case and that we can't actually access the venue side but that we can watch the show on the TV screens, fuck that shit we just left, thankfully tickets were only like $10.

Recher sucks

I don't know what you did wrong, but my buddy and I crossed back and forth between the venues many times. Did you go all the way in back of the restaraunt, pass the bathrooms and then hook right? That would have brought you into the venue right in front of the sound guy. And tix were even cheaper than that...$5.
