I have one of those CD player/radio thingies for the shower and today I was listening to Psychocandy during my morning scrubbing. The trebly environment of the shower, coupled with the CD player's cheap speaker made that record sound really bad.
Psychocandy by Jesus and Mary Chain sounds really really bad in the shower.
What did you learn today?
-
I learned that this is not a Husker Du thread.
-
...try blasting it from your computer speakers if they are close enough to hear when you're in the shower. in my house, with my computer/shower distancing, psychocandy sounds really really really good in the shower :)
-
today, i learned first-hand that sheering sheep is a hell of a lot harder that i thought it was. skittish wooly bastards...
i have no idea if playing psychocandy would make it any easier or harder. i'll see if i can line up an experiemental listen next time.
-
Today, I learned that reading this board can result in picturing a 16-year old girl in the shower listening to psychocandy.
-
Today I learned relevant sections of the Internal Revenue Code. I will forget everything I learned today by 12:30pm tomorrow (hopefully not any sooner).
-
hoya: you failed to tie in psychocandy. please try again.
-
Today I learned that the Oscar de la Hoya fight was too much hype. I also relearned that humans are weird.
-
Today, I learned that azaghal1981 has the ability to make me laugh heartily. And I have a habit of thanking people who make me do that. :)

I learned a lot today.
In Toronto, every place that serves food/drink has to have on some sort of bad background music - usually a random assortment of Top 40 from the past 25 years (think Muzak). I have yet to hear a psychocandy track since my arrival, but if I hear one more Killers song, a Canadian may have to be sacrificed.
I also learned that the Monopoly money here in Canada is their actual monetary unit and that coins are actually worth something. It might feel like your spending 75 cents for a pint, but it's really like $4 (minus 10% of course).
I've also learned that one day can be almost 70 degrees but the next will look the same outside, but it won't top 45 degrees. There's no explanation for it - "Welcome to Canada" is all I'm told.
The last thing I learned is that unless a Canadian team is playing, they really don't watch hockey here - not even the Stanley Cup playoffs. That one probably surprised me the most. The Ottawa game was packed, but the Sharks/Red Wings games and the weekend Sabres/Rangers game were being watched mostly by Americans, and a handful at best.

Just watched (on Tivo) last night a performance by Robin Thicke on American Idol. Lemme tell ya. His voice is gayer than the Scissor Sisters AND Mika combined!
-
It's more of a "reaffirming what I knew" rather than brand new knowledge, and it happened last night, but I think it still applies:
Superhero movies suck with more than one villain.
Also, now I'm in the mood to listen to Psychocandy, but it's not on my iPod yet. Bummer.

i learned that a lot of my co-workers at my daytime job are paranoid.

If you watch Mission Impossible 3 you will never learn what the rabbit's foot is.
Bombs implanted in your sinuses can be deactivated if you shock yourself with 240 Volts.
Tom Cruise is in nearly every frame of the film.
The best places to fly helicopters is thru a wind turbine farm. Cobra attack helicopters no longer use nose-monuted guns. They only fire heat seeking missiles and are suitible for air-to-air combat.
I liked the scene on the bridge better when I saw it the first time, when it was called True Lies.
If you are African American and work for the I.M.F. it helps to talk a lot of ghetto jive like, "My man, Ethan." alot.

I found this pie chart to be very informative.

I learned today that the Indian restaurant that I keep meaning to go to for lunch sometime, but haven't managed it for the last three months for one reason or another, was just on the news for breaking 23 health violations.
-
Today I learned that the days of Dupek spamming the front page of the board with thread after thread have returned.

Do you know what I find rather pretentious???
When people exit their cars in a big parking lot and they don't activate the alarm/lock beep until they are 100 yards away. Why do they wait so long? Are they trying to make some sort of grand exit statement? I beep mine right away. You..?
If I was a thief, I'd jump right in just after they exited, and way before they had time to activate the beep. Hide in the back and steal everything after they went in the store.
-
that the first Mew album sounds a lot like the second one, not that this is a bad thing.
-
the last track my most recent last.fm friend was listening to was...
Carcass "Keep on Rotting in the Free World" hmmm whose personal playlist does this best belong on...
-
I have to provide a writing sample to work at an IP lawfirm for only doing paralegal work. WTF!

We take writing samples from everyone we hire - even the receptionists. Although a particular position may not involve any writing, the sample is one good way of gauging a candidate's ability to communicate clearly.

I learned that the real coffeeshops in my new work location are sadly lacking. FYI businessowners: put up a coffee shop in Navy Yard and you'll make a ton of money.
Signed,
I need my espresso shots.

Don't get me started....I've used up my toy allowance for the next few months.
Today I learned that you CAN have an additional Domain Controller in a Windows SBS2003 environment, provided the new DC has R2 and you run the forestprep command from the R2 installation media on the origional SBS DC.
Who knew?

I learned that the band that sang "How Bizarre" is from New Zealand.
