The Interpol show is sold out.
My ticket arrived in the mail last night. :D
-
never got tickets, oh well, Halo 2 comes out that day, got to have priorities, have a feeling I will miss out on Muse as well
-
Anyone going to the 11/7 show in Philadelphia, too? Tickets are still available.
-
I don't have the black clothes and eyeliner that will be required for entry.

Considering I write for the site, yes.

The Interpol record is the best thing I've heard all year. I find it incredible that they made a record just as good as Turn on the Bright Lights, considering what a breath of fresh air that one was. Great stuff, cannot wait for the show.
-
Agree with you 100%, bunnyman. I played the new disc quite often over the weekend. "Narc" and "Take You on a Cruise" are my current faves.
-
The ultimate sign of a truly great album: I cannot decide on my favorite songs. "Not Even Jail", "Slow Hands" and "Narc" are up there for me, but the only song that doesn't grab me (but that I still don't mind) is "Length of Love". From start to finish, I just cannot stop listening to Antics. This is one damn fine LP and it will be an amazing show. Sadly, probably one of the last times we see Interpol at the 9:30 I would think, unless they do multiple nights on future tours. I think they're going to be big. And their performance of "Slow Hands" on Leno was really, really good.

Wow. You're a regular Jerry Seinfeld. Did it take you all weekend to come up with that zinger?
-
I for one can't stop listening to 'Evil'.

"Public Pervert" is today's favorite. :D

What can I say? I'm as clever as SEinfeld, and even better looking.

Antics took me a few listens. At first I just thought it was good.
Now - I'm also hooked. Pub Perv is my fav. I love the way it starts out sweet & then suddenly turns forboding - heavy bass & guitar riffing. I'm a sucker for the darker stuff.
After seeing them @ Curiosa (during which I thought they were clearly the best act) & now having this great new record - I think the 11/9 show is going to be very, very good. Secret Machines as a supa-treat bonus.
It's been a great year for shows & new music.

Hey, grotty. Are you coming to DC for the show?
And Random Citizen, I considered the 11/7 Philly show and then decided to go to the 11/12 show in NYC instead. In addition to the DC show of course.
I love the album but then Interpol is one of my favorite bands, so that was to be expected. "Take You On a Cruise" is my current fave. "Narc" live is amazing. Looking forward to the shows!

The NYC shows sold out before I thought about traveling to see the band. I like Hammerstein Ballroom. I was surprised to see tix still available for Philly, so I took it as a good sign and bought one. :)

I'm listening to "Evil" right now. Easily a 9 out of 10 for me. The songs aren't just good...they're really great. Whether or not it holds its own through the test of time remains to be seen, but I have a feeling it will. And I've heard "Slow Hands", "Evil" and "Narc" live before and they are friggin' awesome.
-
My favorite is Public Pervert.
Unfortunately, they haven't been playing it on their current tour.
-
in hopes of keeping the show length to a minimum?

Uh-Oh, once they become big, then everyone starts hating them cause everyone else loves them. Get ready to find another small idie type group to follow.....until they get big of course. :)
It's a never ending cycle.
-
Yeah...sadly, that DOES tend to happen, except in the case of Radiohead. It's a fine balance, very few bands can retain credibility, be the darling of the critics, and still keep their fans interested (and in Radiohead's case, rabid). I hope Interpol can do it, they're a damn fine band.

This Antics record is a strange one indeed.
I think I'm getting a little obsessed with it.
I can't quite figure out why I'm liking it so much.
I think it's a subtle change from Turn on the Bright Lights. All the classic Interpol sounds are there - the guitar tones & song structure changes. Yet it's very different - not as immediately catchy. The melodies are not as obvious. But I think upon repeated listens it may even be a better record. It's edgier - almost kinetic. With a lot of rewarding hidden depth. I think it's a classic example of one of those albums that demands an investment from the listener.
kurosawa-b/w - I've got tix for the 9:30. I'm also going to get tix for the 11/11 show in NYC. Unless the opener for Friday 11/12 turns out to be someone brilliantly persuasive.
-
Grotty, you hit the nail on the head there. I have been listening to Antics and TOTBL back to back, and I am liking Antics more. You're right, it's not as immediate. But there are more undercurrents, more of a chemistry happening...a tension that carries the songs and adds weight. It's almost a little bit of an unsettling record because there is a darkness to it, but at the same time the music is very rewarding. I remember I got this feeling when I heard the Red House Painters rollercoaster LP. This is music that is made by people who really treasure what they do. They understand the whole point of why you make records...everyone I have talked to has agreed that there is something very special about Antics. It reminds me of a relationship that starts off very strange...you don't know what role the person will play in your life, but you want to explore that and the more you do, the more it intrigues you. I have a strong feeling this will be my favorite thing released this year.
-
Simply put, the album is aural crack! ;) And it passes the headphones test...so many layers.
-
There's a contest on the band's website (http://www.interpolny.com/) to win tickets to a "secret" show at the Bowery Ballroom this Sunday (10/10).

I think they played Length of Love in Boston instead of C'mere. I would rather hear C'mere since we got Length of Love on the last tour.

Believe it or not, the Philly show next Sunday isn't sold out. So if you're up for a short road trip, that's an option.
-
looks like i'm gonna be yelling for "stella" at the show.. that song is my favorite and i had heard they'd been playing it now it seems they're not...

I'm sure they switch around their setlist for annoying fans all the time...while yer at it, please shout for "the New", it's my favorite one..

It was listed on the setlist for the Tempe show as the second encore closer, but apparently, it wasn't played.
-
Yes, I would love to see The New added back into the set list. It's my favorite live song of theirs. But as long as they play a healthy selection of new songs and Leif Erikson, I will be happy.

that's this sunday and i have to work. not to mention philly is 4+ hours for me.
last time i went up there for a show was for explosions in the sky. not sure if it'd be worth it for me to go up for interpol. i've not heard good things about the electric factory anyway.
i wanted to go to the asheville show this friday, but decided against it and that i should just stick around home and work. i'm going down to miami for kraftwerk in a couple weeks and this morning i just got tickets for the flaming lips/wilco NYE show at MSG
-
Hmmmm...Interpol this Sunday in Philly? Not sold out? Road trip from DC? I'm game!

Do you have a car? If you do end up going, I'd be interested in tagging along. I'm more than happy to cover the various toll fees, too.
-
I don't sadly, but am sure we can find another person to go. God, I am SO game for this.
-
just tried to look for tickets, looks like NOW it's sold out. Bummer!!
