Damn, working at home with afternoon games on TV kicks ass. Caps came back from 2-1 to win 3-2. Jagr got pummelled, Ovechkin scored.....a good way to avoid work for a while.
I can't wait till the World Cup. Productivity levels will sink to near zero.

Ovetchkin looks like the real deal.

question for caps fans:
i'm looking to get 2 lower level seats for the lightning game next sunday as cheap as possible ... what do you think are my best options?
last year (before the lockout), the caps were so bad that i could just walk up to scalpers outside MCI around game time and score lower level seats for REAL cheap ... is it still the same scene? i've been trolling craigslist and finding some deals there, but nothing as bargain-basement as i'm really looking for
ideas?
-
I'd go the scalper route especially on a Sunday. Even when teh Skins are on the road they crush attendance at everything else, I bet there will be lots available for the Bolts game.
BTW, did you get the last PM I sent you about the 22nd?
-
i was crushed when the pens lost the ovechin lottery
i'll go to a couple games this year, i imagine
on saturday i'm going to the pens/lightning game in pittsburgh. our seats are 4 rows from the glass, on the side the pens shoot at twice.
-
I think that the scalper route is still your best bet. During the last NHL season, I had a pair of lower bowl tickets for a Red Wings/Caps game and couldn't even get half of face value for them. I'm sure plenty of regular people (not scalpers) will be trying to get rid of tickets and will be happy to get some nominal amount for them.
-
i'm not a caps fan, but i was there on friday in a neat little box. i practically thought i was watching tennis
-
I have never dealt with the scalpers since i have season tickets, but i cant imagine they raise the price too much, and i am sure you can even get a deal sometimes.
i'll be in good ole section 411....
-
I was so happy when the Pens lost the Ovechkin lottery, since that meant the Caps got him!! I got to meet him at the 2004 draft and he was the real deal off the ice and after seeing him play in the opener, he is the real deal on the ice.
-
My Prediction:
Ovechkin hoists the Calder Trophy, but thats all he'll ever hoist.
Crosby will hoist the Stanley Cup, but not until Hillary Clinton is President.
-
Time will tell...

two years ago i was regularly able to get $80 seats for $40 or so from those guys outside of MCI, hopefully the market is similar this year =)
i'm not sure if i've told this story on here, but the last lightning/caps game i went to at MCI ... it was late in the season and the caps were horrible, i think the bolts were up by a few goals and it was a pretty ugly game ... i was a bit drunk and had been pretty vocal throughout the game ... at some point in the third period after a long power play for the bolts spent exclusively in the caps zone, the caps finally cleared the puck ... i stood up and did this really sarcastic cheer for the caps clearing the puck, and someone threw a beer at me from behind ... it was hilarious =)

So what's your opinion on this? I know it's a year or two late. But do you like the fact that the losing team in an overtime loss gets a point? I still haven't gotten used to that. I think I like the old rule where a loss is a loss and zero points. Am I in the miniority here?
-
I think that if the game is tied after regulation time.....both teams get a point a piece, then each team selects one player to represent them to have a dropped gloves, helmets off, good old 1970's style fight in the centre circle, the winner of which earns two extra points for his team.
Would help attendance numbers if nothing else. :D PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !!! PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !!! PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !!!

I am with you (for once). its stupid. I thought the NHL was going to get rid of the confusing scoring, but this OTL thing is lame.
you LOST , no other sports gets points for losing. perhaps one should get 1/2 point for being ahead or tied after the 2nd period?
this new NHL thing doesnt look too different other than that instead of Pittsburgh losing 3-2 every night, now they lose 7-6.

OFFSIDE RULE - NEW FIFA GUIDELINES
FIFA has circulated soccer's national associations with new recommendations on how referees should handle offside decisions. The proposals have already been tested this season on an informal basis in Italy's Serie A. Assistant referee's will now have to wait until the end of a move before signaling a passive player off-side. The new guidlines mean that offside will not be signalled for uninvolved players who do not directly block the vision or restrict the movement of an opponent and who do not touch the ball. This is not a rule change but an attempt to define more precisely what is meant by 'interfering with play.' The new guidline states "that offside for interfering with play means - playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team mate." And that offside for interfering with play means,"preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball, for example, by clearly obstructing the goalkeeper's line of vision or movements" or "making a gesture or movement while standing in the path of the ball to deceive or distract an opponent." A player will be deemed to have gained an advantage from an offside position if he "plays a ball that rebounds off a post or the crossbar having been in an offside position" or "plays a ball that rebounds off an opponent having been in an offside position". FIFA hopes that these new guidelines will improve the game by allowing more attacking play.
Okay, back to hockey, the other beautiful game.

Try explaining, while drunk, the intentional grounding/tuck rules to someone, also drunk, who has never seen American football before. That gets confusing.

i don't think anyone gets it, fucked up rule ...
one of the things that i don't understand is why NFL coaches insist on challenging plays that simply CANNOT BE CHALLENGED ... everyone knows that you can't challenge a fumble if the play has been ruled dead, yet it happens every week ... are the coaches just playing to the crowd, do they not understand??

another stupid rule was in the pittsburgh/san diego game on monday. the punt returner called for a fair catch, bounced off his face mask and into the arms of the stillerz player who fell into the punt returner. stillerz penalized 15 yards for interfering with a fair catch.

yep, stupid rule ...
i think the way it goes is that you have to give the PR (who called for a fair catch) any chance to catch the ball -- even if he muffs it -- until the ball hits the ground
so if the ball had hit the ground the steelers would be able to recover, but the PR -- because he called for a fair catch -- could bat the ball around in the air as long as he wants to
i kind of see the intent of the rule, but if you play it out to its logical conclusion (batting the ball in the air for a while), it seems pretty stupid
then again, it's the steelers player's responsibility to have seen that the PR called for a fair catch, and to basically avoid him, the guy was really breathing down his neck
-
You musta seen a different play then me cause the Steelers player really was not breathing down his neck, the ball hit the Charger and actually bounced far enough away that the charger player had no chance of catching it, that's how the Steeler player caught it. Even the announcers said that. Of course thinking it was a loose ball, the Steeler player caught the ball and didnt bother to stop his momentum, then running into the Charger player. Or could we say, since the Steeler player had the ball, the Charger player ran into him.
Of course that play upset me quite a bit. In the end the better team ended up winning so we'll let the ref's live another day. They messed up worse when they called Ward down by contact and brought back his 47 yard touchdown. That was a horrible call. There was no evidence on the replay that suggested he was touched.

that was really about the only play i DID see of that game, and i thought it was completely fair.
its a fair catch. he had not dropped it yet. I was shocked to see them give the ball to the Steelers at first and I completely understand why they reversed the call.
-
that game was one of the most poorly officiated games i've ever seen. so many penalties
according to the rules, the officials had the call right. however, the rule sucks

Women know more than men about soccer Wednesday October 12, 06:57 AM
LONDON (Reuters) - If you don't understand soccer's offside rule, don't ask a man -- find a woman.
Women are top of the table when it comes to knowledge about the beautiful game, relegating their menfolk to second spot, according to a survey released on Wednesday.
Research found that 59 percent of women could correctly identify the offside law -- one of the game's hardest to comprehend -- as opposed to just 55 percent of men.
Also 65 percent of women correctly used the title assistant referee, while 40 percent of men wrongly referred to the official as a "linesman".
"I've never understood the big fuss surrounding whether girls know what they're talking about when it comes to football because it was my mum who taught me the offside rule when I was a kid," said Sky Sports presenter Helen Chamberlain.
However when it came to team strip, the men were way ahead. More than 80 percent of men could correctly identify the kits of the 20 Premiership teams compared to just 33 percent of women, the survey of 2,000 customers of sports bar Walkabout found.

Caps 2 - Cains 7 Whatthefeck!!!!!
Who's the caps management team this season?
And just how good was that hit on Fagr by Sutherby?
-
I watched some of that game and I hope not all of hockey is like that, I know the rules have changed but it seems like you can't even be within five feet of a guy or you'll get called for a penalty. Everyone was just skating untouched, I was bored to tears. WHERE'S THE HITTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
