i broke my watch in a mosh pit in philly. never at 930, though
-
oh that sucks... during what band?
-
Define "hurt"
-
a black eye and almost lost a tooth at belle & sebastian last year.
-
the most incredible, small venue mosh pit i've ever seen was at a faith no more show at the old, infamous hammerjacks in baltimore. there was this guy who looked like a steroid freak with no shirt on, punch dancing his way through the sea.

i thought i was definitely bleeding internally after a jesus lizard show @ 9:30 back in 98/99...
-
I got stepped on at the Bob Mould show on Friday, and have a bloody mess of a big toe right now. (I was on the edge of the pit, and my bad for wearing open-toed shoes...I wasn't thinking it would get so energetic or that I'd be up front).
Crowd surfer fell on my head last night at Foo at Patriot Center and I've got a bump...

My friend took an elbow to the nose when HUM played at the club with Servedriver back in 1998. I never woulda guessed they had a rough fanbase until that night.
-
THere was a pit at the Bob Mould show? No WAY! Wow. THat surprises me, I didn't even see anything.
The only time I had anything bad happen to me was at a Ned's Atomic Dustbin show in 1992 at the Metro in Chicago. MAJOR crowd surge, I fell down, and a ton of people fell on me. The surge was so bad that I couldn't get back up. People were kicking me (this is back when I wore glasses, so my glasses broke), and I was getting stepped on. Scared the crap out of me, to this day I hate it when it's ultra-crowded at a show. Ned's fans were just crazy. I remember hearing about a guy who dove from the balcony in Dallas and then died in the fall. That's just stupid though.
Generally the crowds at the 9:30 are fine, especially these days. Once I saw a guy's eye ring got ripped out at a Face to Face show.
One of the wilder things I've seen at a show was during Morrissey when a guy climbed over the railing, jumped onto the PA stack, jumped OVER a roadie (who was hipt to what was going on) and then run to hug Morrissey. Crazy kids... :)
-
the pit during darkest hour last year at their show with cursive was sheeer brutality.

:p

i was a small mosh pit when the beastie boys played a while back.
-
never at 9:30; but back in the day at warped tour a crowdsurfer fell on my head and it fucked me up 'real good.
-
Did you just say "back in the day" and "Warped Tour" in the same sentence?

at the smiths/morrissey night hosted by medusa and strange they showed a video that was basically just a montage of various insane morrissey fans jumping on stage to hug him, there were so many of them, it got weird after a while

Well, it wasn't really a pit. It was just some hysteria.... ;)
-
Old club there was a pit for I think it was the Dead Milkmen where some guy would just run for those standing in the front and smash into us. That hurt after a while.
New club, Gwar, think it was 1998 or so, friend's birthday, and the whole floor was a pit and the floor was very wet with blood and had several falls. Not hurt, but it is always scary when the pit falls over.
-
Kosmo has said that he once got hurt tring to mopshit at the 0930 club...

heh, during a Rooney show a year or two ago at the Wiltern, a bunch of crazy fangirls somehow got on stage. one girl would run up and ambush one of the guys with a hug, and then get removed by security. and then a minute later another one of her friends would break through and dash out. it happened at least a good four times in a row.

Back in 1994, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones played with Wax and Face to Face at WUST (now of course the 9:30) and there was no barricade. They were letting kids jump up on stage and do their thing and at ANY given point there were 2 to 6 people diving off the stage. I really couldn't get over how insane it was, but for the most part people were being cool about it and I didn't see any major injuries.
Then of course there was the Jesus and Mary Chain on Halloween, that same year. The older short guy with the moustache and belly (you all know the one...happy guy who always seemed drunk and would show up, jump around with his hands in the air, etc.) was body surfing and then all of a sudden people tossed him up. He flew up and there was nobody to catch him...so he landed on his head (at least from where I was standing that is how it appeared). It caused a flurry of snickers though, that's for sure.

I had my glasses knocked off and into the pit at a Butthole Surfers show in London in 1989. Had to walk home blind as fuck. Had a spare pair of glasses, but they were stored in an inaccessible suitcase, so had to walk around London blind for a couple of days.

Oh, c'mon Rhett -- you know you are dying to share the Cracker story again. It's Forum legend!

Yes, I most certainly am. But this would not be the appropriate thread.
I'm really hoping for another Pixies tour, so I can tell the purple haired girl story again.

live played my college freshman year. after an all day party, some girl talked me into body surfing. the security were meathead students. the crowd passed me to them and they dropped me and told me, 'stay off the crowd'. nice blokes. the girl of course disappeared
oh, and the girl's line? 'my name is lana. that's anal backwards' i heard she dropped out and became a stripper
-
Body surfing at a Live show. Now that's living on the edge. Sort of like when the crowd started slamdancing at the Big Audio Dynamite show...until Mick Jones told them to cut it out.

Was that the show with Mazzy Star?

someone pushed me really hard at the original 9:30 on F street during Jesus Jones (free tickets. It really hurt my feelings.
-
Well not in the pit but at a Crystal Method show, some girl behind me decided to start punching me in the back. Weak little punches so I turned around and laughed (no clue why she was doing it, and it was way too loud to ask).
At an Orb show, some girl starting sticking her foot under my heals when I would lift them (no room to really dance, so I was doing the in place heal lift thing). I kept going forward to get her to stop, but she would follow. Finally she was bitching to her friends that I was stepping on her feet (such the martyr) and I turned around and told her to stop following me and putting her damn feet under mine. Her idiot friend goes "Watch out we are from New York". Again I laughed (they were such twerps).
I didn't bother staph with these as they were not worth the effort but if they escalated I definitely would have.
-
The only place I was ever dropped while crowd surfing was The Chili Cookoff during Our Lady Peace. Falling on the concrete really hurt my back for months.
During Social D at the 9:30 Club however, I was crowd surfing to "Sick Boy" and I thought I was in for a good fall, but I fell right into the arms of a big, burly tattooed and pierced bouncer who was in the space between the crowd and the stage. It was easily the warmest embrace I've ever been in - never felt safer and more secure in my life.
-
we crowdsurfed a kid in a wheelchair at last year's Chili Cookoff. definitely a highlight of my life.
