Anyone else here going to the show?
-
I think you'll find everyone but me is going.
-
Oddly enough, Ticketmaster released a press release today saying that due to the bad weather and escalating ticket prices, only one ticket had been sold to the Radiohead show at Meriweather.
Now we know who got it. Have a great time.
-
i'm not going
-
i'm not going
-
seen them four times already...
not going.
-
Didn't they do that song "Creep"?
I guess that song was ok, but I'm not sure what all the excitement is about.
-
I'm not going.

An Act of God has been reserved in advance to prevent the concert from actually happening. That said, I'm going.
-
I don't know if I will be there. I have tickets, but if walking up someone offers me tons of money, I might just not go. I have yet to get thrilled by the new record.
-
I'm not going either, but I am seeing Supergrass.
-
what a room full of soggy heads - I will be there, ignorant and blissful, this only being my 2nd time. Had a chance to see them at Bull Run if I drove like mad from Chicago. Instead, I made the decision to enjoy a few more days with grandma and grandpa (wonderful people but a tough decision at the time, what a terrible grandson) and was well rewarded.
-
I will unfortunately be in the middle of the woods for every East Coast date, which is very painful...I haven't seen them since TFC in '97.
-
I wouldn't miss this for the world. Bring on the lightning, floods, and hepatitis!

i'm not going within 30 miles of that show.
walkman, why the woods? i thought you were too hip for nature? ;)

I'm going to change my answer. I just saw that Supergrass is playing a few warm up shows in So Cal before joining the Radiohead tour, so I'm going to save the $45 and see Supergrass in Anaheim for $18. Woohoo!
So no, I'm not going to see Radiohead either.

Does anyone know if tickets purchased through WASTE should have arrived yet? I was an idiot and lost my confirmation number, and the WASTE site is absolutely no help at all. Thanks in advance.

I haven't received my w.a.s.t.e. tickets yet. I hope they come soon -I'm very eager to see what seats I have.
-
My problem is that I have 4 lawn tickets through WASTE that I need to sell. I made the mistake of picking them up from WASTE first, then finding actual seats on Ticketmaster.
By the way, I was up at Siren last weekend, and thought I saw you at one point, just before Idlewild. Unfortunately, there were about 50 people in the 15-foot space from where I was and where I saw you.

when i ordered my WASTE tickets, they said they would be mailed at the end of july, so i am figuring next week sometime, but i think the fact that no one got decent seats from ticketmaster means that we are getting good seats. hopefully
-
I got my w.a.s.t.e. tickets via FedEx today. Row K Center section. Excellent seats in other words.
Sorry I missed you at the Siren Fest, nkotb! It was quite the day with the roller coaster, water rides and then the bands on top of it all... I'm definitely going again next year.
-
Still... all the good seats don't go to WASTE. There are thousands of seats that somehow disappeared before the tickets ever went on sale.
-
I'm definitely going! My plan is to purchase tickets the day of, lest it is sold out. That's right, I am too poor to pay a service charge. If it's sold out, plan B is to have a picnic in the wooded area surrounding Merriweather and just "hear" the show.
-
By chance does anyone know how the seats are numbered at Merriweather. For example, in the left center section, would seat 9 or 11 be closer to the center of the stage? Thanks.

actually, i thought seats 1 and 2 were next to each other, dead center, and then it went like this kind of
975312468
and so on.
arent the odd seats and even seats together?
-
BTW, did anyone besides kurosawa get their WASTE tickets yet?
i havent gotten any of mine DAMNIT!
-
As of Aug 2, I had not received my WASTE tickets. Curious to find out where they will be located at the venue...

did they come Fed Ex or what? and did you need to sign for them?

They were sent from Arlington, originally arrived on Friday but I was not there to sign for them. I got them in my hands today. Sent FedEx.

ok, i just got a email from WASTE stating that my "order was dispatched" :) they gave me a trx number that didnt work, but perhaps they were shipped tonight, and i will find out mañana.
-
i just got an email from hfs that more pavilion seats were releasted. they must have reconfigured the stage. i bet they are killer seats too.
-
they sure did!!! and not only that, but i bought 4 tickets from wASTE and 4 from ticketmaster, and i just now pulled up tickets in the row IN FRONT OF the row i bought the morning they went on sale! freakin jerks! i hope my waste tickets are better than GfreakinG
-
not going.
i used to love radiohead, from the start with pablo honey. OK computer was the raddest. Then Kid A came out, I listened to it once, and tuned them out completely ever since. something about that album just killed my (fervent) interest in that band.
-
well that sucks. I don't feel like trying to unload my lawn seats so I'll just sit with the groundlings. I have pit for west palm beach anyway so I don't mind. Supergrass opens there too :D

awww, yeah, I got Row K Left Center section....hot damn not bad. I cannot wait.
-
lucked out and got right center row C when TM released more seats. i had resigned myself to not going b/c i didn't want to be stuck on the lawn.
-
I got my tickets for the Toronto show next Saturday !!!! General Admission Pit tickets. I am the happiest Radiohead fan alive today.
Mom's home cooking and Radiohead all in one weekend!
too good, too good.
-
I think it's time to start placing wagers on the weather and the Merriweather (no pun intended) show......as I hear thunder off in the background.

I decided to stick with my Lawn tickets instead of buying pavillion seats when ticketmolester re-released them. For that very reason I predict will rain cats and dogs with 4 direct lightning strikes. Radiohead will be forced to cancel and the pavillion will be torched and burned to the ground by rioting DC area Radiohead fans who have had enough of mother nature foiling their life-long plans of seeing Radiohead play. Bring a poncho.

I'm thinking earthquake.
-
i'm going to watch tv that night. damn my packed schedule. gotta find a way to get to this show.....
-
Hey, so has anyone else noticed the unusually early starting time for the Merriweather show? 6:30 while other venues are 7:30. Makes me wonder if Radiohead are going to give us an extra long set to make up for past cancellations? Just an optimistic guess...and a fun one to contemplate!
-
Is 6:30 the start time? I was expecting that was the time the gates open.

That's what I thought, too, but a Radiohead site that I just looked at said gates at 5:30... I haven't double-checked with the MPP site so maybe I am just hopeful for no reason...
Update: I just checked the MPP site and couldn't figure it out. Other shows seem to start later. I will send a message to MPP and ask.

Thom has to be in bed by 10pm during the week.
-
Maybe they are allowing extra time to compensate for rain delays.
-
Okay! First of all, GATES are definitely at 5PM for the Merriweather show. Get there by 7:45! I really think they are going to do a 3 hour set for us...
Reporting back on the Philly show: Incredible of course! I won't go through the set list since they change it every night. But the best sequence was I Might Be Wrong, Talk Show Host, Idioteque, Fake Plastic Trees. Actually, the whole second half was the strongest. Thom danced like crazy and the band was in fine form. This may be a rather radical statement, but I have to say that the songs from Kid A and Amnesiac are my favorite live songs over any other albums. The songs have so much intensity and depth. And Idioteque is just one of the best live songs EVER! Oh and they made Everything in its right Place into a dance tune -fabulous. My seats were quite a ways from the stage, so I am looking forward to tomorrow and a much better view.
-
7.45pm? for the start of the show, or do you mean after that malkmus guy gets off stage and radiohead takes the stage?
-

Well, in Philly, Radiohead took the stage at 8:45. So with the early start time, it is possible that Radiohead might come on stage at 7:45. Who knows, but it would be better to be there earlier just in case. I am SO excited for the show!! Especially after seeing Monday's show. This day at work is going to last foreverrrr...
If you want to take a look at set lists and reviews of the shows so far, look here (http://www.ateaseweb.com/live/2003/index.php).
-
i'm leaving dc at 4.30pm. yeah, that gives me a ton of time to get there but you never know, esp with radiohead.
thanks for the link kurosawa.
-
sadly, i wont get on the road from Alexandria till 6, but am hoping to get there for the start of Radiohead. The setlists look great though!
-
i hope they play "Creep"
-
Looks like a nice day. Perhaps a little too nice.
-
yeah, the calm before the storm.....actually though, i am feeling a terrorist attack coming on.
maybe i shouldnt say that.
and i have decided that "Idioteque" is the greatest live song ever sung.....
-

Don't you know, cool radiohead fans never make such a request.... However, I'm with you. They played it in Mass. a week ago, and my night certainly doesn't revolve around it, but it would be nice.

actually, I was kidding, I dont want to hear Creep. There are MANY MANY other songs that i would rather hear, that i have a feeling i wont.
Anyone Can Play Guitar, Stop Whispering, I Can't, Street Spirit, Packt Like Sardines and Follow Me Around to name a few ;)

Let's assume for a minute that the show will not be cancelled due to unforseen disaster (collapsed roads, floods etc).
I've got a question for those of you that may have been to Merriweather before. How hectic is it sitting on the lawn? Is it hard to get a spot where I'll be able to see? I've really got no idea what to expect. I'm going to the show with my pregnant wife and am just wondering what kind of experience I can expect getting into the venue and finding a place to sit our butts down.

Well, obviously depends on when you get there. If the gates are at 5:30 and thats when you get there, bring a blanket and plop yourselves down, that way , one of you can walk away and save your good spot. its not like a normal GA kind of show where you can work your way up front last minute.
but since its an early show, on a wed. the crowd shouldnt start arriving til after 6pm, so getting there at 5:30 would get you primo lawn spots no problem! but really, no place on the lawn is too bad, since your really just watching the big screens anyway.

Unless ticketmaster has now taken down the show on their site and tickets are only available at the box office, the show is now sold out.
How many people does Merriweather hold altogether anyway? 15,000?

Whether it's sold out or not, I'm pretty sure ticketbastard doesn't ever sell tickets to an event on the day of the event. I could be wrong though. I've tested this theory once or twice....an event was no longer listed on ticketbastard's website the day of the event, but were still available at the venue boxoffice.
-
Ok, well thanks for the information. I never really thought about it one way or the other before.

tickets.com stops selling tix on the day of the show at 1pm, at least for wolftrap...i don't know if tm has the same policy...you could call tm and ask them if any are available to purchase at the box office...i'm actually regretting not buying tickets for tonite now..oh well..i'll be working at wolftrap tonite for the boston pops, if any one is going to that happening show
-
Dammit. So much for my 3 hour show theory. Someone just posted to the ateaseweb message board saying that they called the venue and Radiohead is scheduled from 7:45 to 10. Maybe we can get them to go longer...
-
I don't fucking care at this point. If they came out and did an hour of uninterrupted music that included "Climbing Up the Walls", "Street Spirit", "Optimistic", and "There There", I'd be a VERY happy camper. I've waited so long for this!
-
This just in........
Tonight's Radiohead show at Merriweather Post Pavilion is officially CANCELLED due to a strange injury suffered by Thom Yorke. Apparently, he laughed until his head came off.
Stay tuned for more information.

Yeah. Any amount of time is worth it. And over 2 hours is still a great set! I can't wait to hear the roar when they walk out on stage.
-
My wife just emailed me to say there's still tickets available. I told her I'd go if she really wanted to, but she said not really, she was just seeing if I wanted to go...anyway, evidently it's not sold out...I think Thom's grandma can't make it so they've made her section for sale or something.

Good show.... Heard Creep. Was starting to dread each time Thom rolled the piano out. Can't get over how lousy a pavillion is for a band like this and of course the home equity loan I needed to take out for a blasted soda. I was denied the amount for a beer and was laughed at when I mentioned a T-shirt.
-
Agree it was great, but....
what kind of rock show ends at 9:45???
-
very sterile. very anti-climactic. how long was that show? maybe 80 minutes? $40 to stand in the heat to watch thom yorke on the jumbotron for just over an hour? i can't help but feel a little cheated.
anybody remember the radiohead show at 9:30 club back in 97 (or was it 98?)? did like three encores. played their hearts out. this was extremely sedate and impersonal by comparison.
but whatever. thousands of fans ate it up. and the big music industry machine will chug on. . .
-
i totally agree with the post above
i do feel a bit ripped off
-
you feel ripped off?
i live 144 miles from the venue and that 144 miles took me _5_ hours.
i missed half the show.
parking was not sufficient for the venue, nor was it very clearly marked.. they directed us into a parking deck that was already full.
i would have to say that merriweather was one of the most uncomfortable amphitheatres i've ever been to.
i also commented on the early ending time. i've gone to shows where doors opened hours later than this show ended.
i think also that security was a bit over-done. i asked for a cavity search when coming in the gate, but the guy didn't seem to be all that interested. inside it was a bit annnoying too.. not as annoying as the last time i was at the tweeter center in camden (where they were shining flashlights down the rows at people who were sitting down), but still...
that was by far the most ridiculous security i've seen at a radiohead show. there wasn't 1/4 of that at the montreal show and there were no problems there. as much as i complained about the montreal venue basically just being a field, i think that it allowed everyone a better view, the sound was a LOT better there and it wasn't so ridiculously hot. not to mention, i think general admission is a lot better for this kind of show. i would gladly take my spot behind the board i was standing at in montreal over the 7th row ticket i had for merriweather.
over the years, it seems like the more often i see radiohead, the less i enjoy the show.
and that certainly didn't make up for what happened in 2001. i'm wondering if they are _really_ going to reschedule the toronto show... as i also had tickets for that and was up there for it.. luckily i was in quebec the whole time the power was out.
if there hadn't been a few uncommon songs in the half of the show that i got to see, i would have been really pissed off that i didnt just eat the $100+ for my two tickets and stayed home. i still dont know if i feel like it would have been better to stay home or not.
-
Well, everyone is a pissy pants. I thought the show was fucking wonderful.
I guess i didnt have any big ordeals with getting there, or get all worked up because the beer was way expensive. yeah, I bought 2-24oz Coronas for $22!!!! Its ok, because i did get to see the greatest band of our day play one hell of a set. It was actually 110 minutes that they played (7:45-9:35) And they played Just which made my night, and Creep, which although it is what it is, is the song that made me go out and buy that first Radiohead CD in 1992.
Me and three of my best friends were down in Row K where all the people around us were LOVING IT. It was heaven, Thom was crazy as ever and I really think the guys played hard and loved the reception they got from the crowd.
Maybe i am just not old enough to get it, but i have been going to shows on a consistent basis since 1988 and I could NOT have asked for anything more.
made up for 2001? who cares anymore, that show fucking rocked.
-
could someone post the play list? i did not get there till Creep was just ending, and was wondering what i missed? What i saw of the show was amazing though. It made the 3 hour trip from Alexandria worth it.
-
bunnyman was front row and will post a set list.
we had a great time where we were in row aa. we had little trouble getting to and from the venue. and oddly enough, that's the second time that things have gone smoothly for me at merriweather. i thought the sound was decent, not great, but decent and that the band's energy on stage was great.
my only complaint (and there is always a complaint when radiohead plays dc) was that the show was under 2 hours. i was hoping for 2.5 hours, but the hour and 50 minutes was pure bliss. so i'm just glad the locusts, earthquakes, hurricanes, lightening, hepatitis, etc, all held off last night.
-
setlist:
01 the gloaming
02 2+2=5
03 sit down. stand up
04 where i end and you begin

08 a wolf at the door

10 you and whose army
11 there there
12 go to sleep
13 dollars and cents
14 we suck young blood
15 idioteque
16 creep
17 the national anthem

But they are some peoples favourite band. And although, getting there before the encore is NOT the desirable outcome, doesnt make it not worth it. Some people had a great time last night, and you just shouldnt be a jerk trying to piss on other peoples parade. thats all i am saying.

You are so holier than thou Sonick. She didn't even know how many songs that were played. You posted there were 23, if I just realized I miss that many songs I would be pissed. So I asked again if it was worth it.
-
I am not holier than thou. I am just saying, someone missed half the show (and she knows she did) and still loved it. You just sitting over there saying "was it worth it?" could maybe make someone think "well, now i dont know"
Do you want to be that guy?
In her original post she said it was worth it. You are just asking stupid condescending questions. and dont go calling me holier than anyone... you are like "Mr. Wet Blanket" all the time.

Yay! Radiohead, they can do no wrong, I am glad everyone had a great time.
-
i wasn't trying to start any trouble. they are my favorite band, and while i would have loved to have been there early and in the seat i paid for (left center T) it didn't work out for me that way. 2 years ago i bought tickets, and never got a glimpse and was crushed. So, no, it was not my desired outcome, and it sucks that i missed hearing them play some of my favorite songs, but at least i got to hear 8 of them. The people sitting in traffic behind me didn't even get that much. Merriweather was obviously unprepared for that many people, but i'll know better the next time.

On a slightly different note, what did everyone think of the Jicks performance? I thought it was pretty good, although Malkmus's loose stage manner (stopping songs and then restarting them, joking around, talking to the crowd) didn't seem to go over too well in a place of that size. His setlist was also kind of strange; I liked all of that songs he played (and granted, I know their first album much more than I know the new one), but I only recognized a handful (two from the first album and maybe 4 or 5 from the new one). Any idea where the other songs came from?
-
We watched SM for a little while, but it was nice outside and we didnt wanna be under that pavilion for too long.
Very good instrumentation, but as far as songs went...well, i could never really figure out when one song was starting and another one was ending. It certainly wasnt enough to hold my attention, or really anyone elses for that matter, no one looked too into it.
NKOTB is very right, not really the band for a ampitheatre
I'd like to see him in a smaller place.
-
malkmus did nothing for me. too hard to follow in a venue that size. needs a date at the 930 but i still dont think i'd go. was rather underwhelmed.
-
I get tired of hearing people whine "I missed most of the set because I was stuck in traffic", etc. LEAVE EARLIER!!! I live in Southern MD, and knew the traffic would be a nightmare, so I allowed plenty of time to make sure I didn't miss a second of Radiohead. As it turned out, I arrived at about 6:15, and caught SM too. As far as the show, it was fantasitc! I thought they couldn't top the Field Day Festival, but they did. It just confirmed for me there are very few bands that perform at the same level as Radiohead. I was pleasantly surprised to here Wolf at the Door, Just and yes even Creep.
-
Can someone please shed some light on the strange set times? At first I believed that we were going to get some kind of "special extra-long" set to make up for the past DC problems (how naive of me).
I know Merriweather has a noise curfew, but isn't it 11:00? Looks like all other Radiohead shows on the tour are at the "normal" time.
-
I'm shocked at the traffic problems that some encountered. I remember being on the beltway for 3 hours for the stones last year only to find Dan Snyder asking for $25 to park. I came from Frederick last night and from my house to the parking lot took 40 minutes. 70 East, 29 South and arrived at exactly 5:45. My "moment the tickets went on sale" seats put me pretty much behind the soundboard in the back of the pavillion. I was however privy to a setlist long before the show started. Started walking to the car during No Suprises, and was in bed by 10:30.... I do however sympathise with you folks that had it rough.

That traffic made me miss a photo assignment. I was meant to cover radiohead, but all I got was pavement.

I took comfort in the fact that only 3 of the 9 photgraphers who were meant to cover the show actually made it in time.

Thom Yorke isnt as pretty as Mr Wet Blanket anyway.

Okay, you see the issue is that some of us work. It's how we pay for all these concert tickets, $12 beers and CDs. Oh yeah, and rent. I'm sorry, these pavillion shows are too friggin' early. I think it's because they're out in the 'burbs where people live and so there are curfews. It's nuts. Nissan is usually much worse, but it sounds like Merriweather was pretty bad as well last night.
All I can say is, I live in the city and to spend 5 hours in a car to see a band at Nissan is unreal. I could go to Philly during non-rush hour traffic.
I don't have an answer, but you can't blame the concertgoers for poor planning. The best laid plans of mice and men, after all....

Shut the fuck up. Many of us work. Many of us have attend shows where there were loads of people and trafic wasn't this bad. I waited an hour ON THE FUCKING RAMP off Columbia. How the hell was I supposed to know that. It's never happened before, I have no basis to assume that I would sit on a ramp for an hour. Now if I had just cut to the front I wouldn't have missed the gloaming, but ah well. Something was clearly very fucked up. I want to defend Merryweather against Nissan but fuck it. Tear it down. I won't be going to another pavillion show again so I don't really care. Who starts a show at 6:30. That was rediculous.
Good set by the by, although people really have clapping issues. Took them over a minute to figure out We Suck Young Blood. It's on the 4 folks! And I will say that row S provided an excellent view.

Seing Stephen Malkmus would have been great -- because then i'd have been there in enough time to photograph radiohead. The pavement reference was aimed more at the road I was laying (while taking the above picture) than it was at the former [pavement] front man.

man!! which way did everyone come in?? We cam in from Rt. 29 from I-70 and we didnt get stuck in ANY traffic whatsoever! none. and we got there at like 6pm. I am sorry to hear people got stuck in traffic. Merriweather usually isnt like that..but then again, i havent been in like 3 years until last night.
As for working, i left early to make sure i showered shaved and ate and gave myself PLENTY of time......but not everyone can leave work early.

Honestly, why even try. Why have a venue where shows have to end before a normal concert anywhere else even begins? Whatta waste. Knock it down.

Some of us actually have jobs where we have to get out of bed in the morning. I would mind if every concert started at 8 and was done by 11.

i agree... well, with a lot of situations. it would be nice to get home before 2 am sometimes, especially if you have to wake up before 11 am. sometimes it's nice being able to take your time with dinner, etc before a show, but i would rather get a nice night's sleep. i think i'm too old for my years. i sound like an old man.

Actually, I've been to tons of shows at 930 and been home by midnight'ish..quit yer bitchin!

you might be right mank....cause when they cam out for thier 2nd encore (at about 9:25pm) some guy was yelling to Thom and then Thom pointed at his watch and nodded....dont know what that was for but who knows...maybe they want to end shows ASAP to quell the bitching Columbia residents from wanting to tear down the joint.

The 9:30 Club does a really good job of hitting the right times during the week. I'm usually home by 12:00 (granted, I live 10 minutes away). And still they start late enough that I can grab a bite and get there. It really is a fine line; I can't stay out until 2:00 on a 'school night' anymore either. But I also can't get to bumfuck MD or VA by 7:00 in two hours of traffic.
When the Tyde played Velvet Lounge on a Sunday night, their actual set time was midnight! I couldn't do it (turns out they went on far earlier, of course, but I couldn't take the chance they'd go on later).
-
Iota does a good lob of starting shows early as well.
I think it's Black Cat and Velvet Lounge that start the shows too late. They probably figure all of the record store clerk hipsters that go the shows there don't have to get up early anyway.

The Black Cat is fairly good about keeping on schedule, nowhere near as bad as Velvet Lounge. Nobody at the Velvet Lounge ever knows what time bands are playing or even which band is headlining. There really isn't a schedule at the Velvet Lounge.
-
Yes, they do a good job of keeping on scedule, but what time is the weeknight headliner generally scheduled for?

Doors open for "Mainstage" shows at 8:30 on weekdays and 9:30 on weekends. The opening band starts 1/2 hour later.
-
Yes, but what time is the HEADLINER scheduled for? I thought the point was that shows at the 9:30 or Iota typically end at 11:30-12:00 on weeknight. If the headliner doesn't go on at the Black Cat until 11:30, even if they're on time, it doesn't help out the notion of getting to bed at a decent time...

I've been wondering why black cat opens the doors later than 9:30 when they could clearly benefit for the alcohol sales if they were open earlier? Cause that is the main reason for opening doors 90 minutes before a show, correct?

i dunno about iota. i've been there a few times now where i've had to cut out part of the encore and book it to the metro before 11.40pm so i don't have to pay $20 cab fare to dc.

Am really floored by some of the responses from the show last night...by all means, for me it was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had. True, I was in the front row...but the performance itself was near flawless. And I find it hard to believe that a band like Radiohead can sell 15,000 seats in DC, not have any proper hits (except Creep), and still get called mainstream and a suburban kid's bedroom poster band. This isn't Good Charlotte, Staind, or any of that stuff. I left the show VERY happy...I know it's difficult to enjoy a show like Radiohead in a venue like Merriweather. To all of those stuck in traffic or out on the lawn, sorry that you didn't have a better time and I realize that could deter from your enjoyment of the show...but as a fan that was really excited, I didn't have any disappointments that are worth mentioned. Yes, I'm happy, and now I can finally shut up. :)
-
sorry, what i meant to say was scheduling things to be a bit more metro friendly. i think the 9.30, over the last couple of years, has gotten really good about trying to set things up so the headliner finishes up before the last green line takes off. it'd be nice if other venues followed suite. i know that's not always a possibility but it just seems that shows at the black cat seem to run past the last metro during the week, and sometiems iota too.

Radihead has one of the most active street-teams in music, and it's all supported by Capitol Records.
I'm not saying they are on the same level as TRL bands, but they are far from an underground indie act.

36. What time do most 36 year olds who work a day job go to bed? My brother goes to bed around 8 pm each night. My dad went to bed around the same time. I imagine the people in my office who are in their 30's and 40's who get to work between 6:30-8:00am probably go to bed pretty early too.

I think when many of the reviews of other shows I heard were "2 hours plus" and they played less than 2 hours than we got quantitatively less than other concerts. Unless folks outside DC have counting issues.
I was 3rd row for Weezer on their "Ok fine you assholes, we'll play mostly old stuff and almost zero new stuff" tour and had a great time. I also had a good time on the lawn for Depeche Mode and REM.

most of hte other shows start later, though montreal started at 630 also.
that was because of a curfew at the park, but it really wasn't that big of a deal. there weren't nearly the traffic problems getting into the montreal venue that there were getting to merriweather... and i think more people were able to go to the montreal one, being that it was all GA.

I think that is one of the silliest things I've ever seen on this board. NOW I'm laughing. It was a typo; where y'all got mount (and yes, I knew you were talking mount the verb, as in to climb on top of and nail) just eluded me. Look, maybe it's me. Just wasn't funny. If this makes me appear illiterate, that's the funniest part of this whole bit.
:p
Mankie's on this one. I'm not being a nudge when I say, no period, it just didn't hit me as "mount" as in to nail my girlfriend.
Gotta say though, I'm still laughing now!

Funny how these threads tend to get sidetracked.
Merriweather is my least favorite venue in the area that I have attended, mainly due to getting in there and out of there. Takes over an hour just to get out of the parking lot. Only the Patriot Center at GMU has worse acoustics.
As far as the show... for the most part I liked it. My expectations were sky high, so perhaps I was a little disappointed (no "Karma Police" for me). Compounded with the Bull Run disaster from two years ago, I felt that things might have fallen a little short last night. However, I feel greatly relieved having now seen Radiohead live. Next time, if there is one, my expectations will be more sensible. Favorites from the show ... "Paranoid Android", "There There" (good live performance), and "Just". "Idiotique" which I don't really dig comes across a lot better live.

He writes for the City Paper. I think his take is pretty right on.

Wow there really are some humour challenged people on the board. No wonder no one thinks I am funny. I am on a higher comedic plain than most of you.....
If you dont know mt is short for mount you really ought to try reading more books.
The really funny thing here is that it's plane (as in astral plane) not plain. Unless you were trying to make a joke. Then it wasn't funny.

I thought he was trying to say that he was on a different comedic plane (of existance) than the rest of us mortals.

the equivocation was meant to be mildly self-deprecating, but why should I bother? I am the smartest person I know.

In me the scientist,
Always stuck on, always trying this.
I try to live on science alone.
Analysis and freaky sensitivity,
Weâ??ve gotta live on science alone.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Weâ??ve gotta live on science alone.
Religiously, I'm speaking on the science, 'cause
Weâ??ve gotta live on science alone.
Iâ??ll tell you what, Mathematically I'm having it.
I wanna live on science alone.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Weâ??ve gotta live on science alone.
Cause I could live on sceience alone.
Weâ??ve gotta live on science alone.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.
Yeah, uh, I am a scientist.

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets
And ask me you questions
Oh let's go back to the start
Running in circles
Coming in tales
Heads are a science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start
I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart
Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start
Running in circles
Chasing tails
And coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start

Has anyone run across a bootleg of the show yet. I know that there were some people recording it but I haven't seen anything floating around yet.

Apperently there's a GBV song called I Am A Scientist (there's probably a GBV song for every word in the dictionary) but I'm feeling too lazy to post the lyrics.
