Anybody going to this show at the State Theater on Friday?
I like both acts (especially Ritter) but it means I will be attending four shows in five nights.
How is the State Theater as a venue?

I would go but am DJing Friday night. They played a storming show earlier this year at the Cat.
Never been to the State Theatre, wonder if playing in the burbs will hurt or help attendance

I like Ritter, but you can't go to every good show in October...

It's the best show the State has had in since they hosted the Residents a few years back--- unless you're a big fan of Gonzo's Nose-type scrud. The State has a Birchmere wanna-be thing going on in it's overall presentation, in that it opens a few hours before the show begins and has tables and wait service. Food isn't anything special. Acoustically it's pretty great and they have a balcony, a holdover from it's days a single screen movie house. Not much parking either and it's too far to easily walk from the E. Falls Church Metro. Can't see as how it will really be better for either act than playing in DC proper, but I would imagine for Frames fans---rapidly turning into a cult band--- they would travel to see 'em no matter where Glen Hansard shows his Irish mug.

uh you forgot Love!

Parking there is easier than any venue in the city.

Except that there's lots of opportunity not to have to sit at a table (unlike Birchmere). The floor in front of the stage is open for standing, and is pretty big. Plus there's the balcony. I think it's a cool space and have had great times seeing Love and The Smithereens there.
If you want a good table, you can reserve the tables in the middle for $10 or $20...still have the food/drink minimum, which I can't remember right now.
I would go to this, but I'm headed to Jersey to see Foo again. I can't stay away!

i will be headed to this show. i never miss them when they are in town, or in the nearby areas (if you consider new york and philly nearby!).
i wish josh ritter wasn't on the bill and emmet tinley was.

Is this going to sell out?/How early should I get there?
-
there were maybe 300 people to see em at the Black Cat earlier this year so I doubt it

last night was great. and i'm really liking the state theatre! easy to get to, easy to park, building has a lot of character, great sound, nice staff. too bad in the 12+ years i've been here they'd have maybe 3 bands i've wanted to see there (though i can only think of two right now-last night and the waterboys 2 years ago).
for not being a josh ritter fan, i am now a convert. smashing set. so great to see dave hinnerty drumming in josh's band.
frames, as usual, class act. though they are a band that feeds off the audience, and the audience was dull, though polite and appreciative. (so in some ways, i would prefer that than the crowd they had 2 years ago that were entirely disrespectful). they won't be back for about a year. after this tour, back to ireland, then a tour of mainland durope, then back in the studio after the new year, and then australia in spring/summer 2006.
too bad you couldn't be in two places at one last night brennser. you missed a lovely evening in virginia!
