tonight is the new pornographers at black cat.........so that's where i'll be tonight.
anyone else going to be at that show?

I'm going to New Pornographers -- question, do we think this will sell out? I've organized a big birthday group, and we're having dinner before so can't make it over until later (after 9:30). I got RSVPS for tickets Friday, and haven't been able to get by the club to buy tickets ahead of time. It'll SUCK if we can't get in.
What do you think?

i'm not sure to be honest........i'm horendously bad at the show sell out question.........
i've had my tickets for a while...........but i don't think it will sell out..........i'll keep my fingers crossed for you......and hope to see you there..............

I'm doing the unthinkable and getting tickets from ticketbastard. Now, as we speak. DAMN, but what are you gonna do. Sometimes shit happens, and it's someone's birthday!
Actually, it's not awful. $3 on each ticket, and that goddamn order processing fee is only 75 cents. Ah well, at least I can spend the rest of the day stress free.

I'll be seeing my favorite young lady. The lovely Neko tonight at The Cat. I'm guest listed so,I won't be worrying about tickets. I think it will be pretty crowded, but not sold out!

I am SO not cheap. But we got to the show quite late and it was pretty packed -- I couldn't have found you to deliver a beer if I'd wanted to! And you know, I haven't done that whole thing meeting anyone on the boards yet. But when I do, beer is on me!!
SO glad I bought tickets via ticketbastard; show was sold out when we got there about 10:30.
What did y'all think? I really love the N.P. albums, and Neko Case was and is always great, but I wasn't too blown away. There was a certain energy lacking -- though maybe it was me, way in back (but with dancing room), on a Sunday night, there with folks who weren't into the band.

i thought it was a great show......not lacking in energy at all but then i was right at the front boogying away......
i love the way they are so comfortable on stage and i thought the atmosphere in the blackcat was great.......
the organ was also quite good in a new wave 80's way......but the lonesome organist was trully awful........at one point while he was "playing" i thought i was going to cry..........

I agree with lulu, the New Pornographers were fantastic. From where I was, about halfway back, the atmosphere was great, people were loving it, I was loving it... aah, twas beautiful.
But ick, oh heavens, The Organ were bluddy awful! From their all-black outfits and hair (egads, those haircuts!--girls, fire your stylist immediately!), to their sourpuss expressions and monotone vocalist, I thought it was all just awful awful awful.
On the other hand, I absolutely loved the Lonesome Organist. So cute. The last song, with the keyboard/recorder thing and the tap dancing--oh, I just thought I would die he was so adorable!

the lonesome organist was terrible. It would have been much better if he had played just one instrument at a time not three. Plus too much of it was pre-recorded. For something similar done properly, please try mollowdrone. Its just one guy (well with a drummer on some songs) and live he creates loops on the go.

What makes it worse was I rather enjoyed the organ. I thought the singer was cute and they were rather 80s poptastic in a we listened to too much cure kind of way.

The lone organist was a goddamn travesty!! I needed to get up at 6 a.m and his set cost me sleep!!! Bastard! The pornographers were friggin great!! The sound was one of the best mixes I have ever heard at the Cat. The band was tight and energetic. I was up front and got some pretty good pics as the night wore on. The crowd was typically lame & shitty! It's pretty bad when an old fart like myself is one of the most energetic people in the crowd.........jeeez.....p.s.......Neko is my goddess and I will be there on the 27th for the solo show with Kelly Hogan......this female does no wrong in my book.....

anyway, back to the nominal topic, i caught the ruins at velvet sunday night. okay, i guess. like channeling mike patton and faust or something. some nice grooves, but a little too nerdy.

Wow, such a function of going with people who didn't really like the show. It was a birthday thing, so some folks went who just aren't into, and didn't like, the Pornographers. Makes me sad, 'cuz it obviously affected my experience. Ah well. There will be more shows!
