The venues where they're performing are small, so I'm guessing they couldn't book a date at the VL, Black Cat (backstage) or Ottobar.

In related news from Brendan Benson's website...
Hi everyone. Let me start by apologizing for neglecting this website for so long. That's all changing now. My plan is to keep you in as much of the loop as I can. Admittedly I'm hopeless though when it comes to this sort of thing. I'm also sorry that it's been so long since the last record. It was always my intention to have a new one out quickly in hopes that I might redeem myself of the irritatingly long period between records one and two. And actually this new record, which is as of yet untitled, has been finished and chomping at the bit for quite some time now, but certain (boring) circumstances have delayed it's release. There are some details to sort out before a date can be set. I assure you though it's well worth the wait. In the meantime I've been working with Jack White and Patrick and Lil' Jack from the Greenehorns on some songs. Maybe, schedules permitting, we'll put a record out. Also I've been working with Dean from the Waxwings on some stuff-another "side project" which we call The Stiff Tissues. A sort of "anything goes" approach to music. Hopefully we'll also get a record out. Speaking of the Waxwings. I'll be filling in on guitar for them on their east coast tour in July and maybe some west coast dates in August. I've got to get out of the house and as it happens they lost a member (tragically to marriage) and need a replacement. So it works out well. And finally I'd like to apologize for any mispelled words or incomprehensible sentence structure found herein and henceforth. I'm certain my typing and letter writing skills shall improve in time. Later. BB

Thanks for the link to the High Dials stream....never heard them but that is great stuff. Looking fwd. to seeing them at Randalls Island in august along with all the others.

I love the High Dials! In fact, was just listening to their album yesterday.
They have a new album coming out very, very soon.
But those bastards still owe me a tour date after standing me up in Baltimore!

Saw Brendan Benson open for the White Stripes a couple of years ago. You won't be missing anything. Don't know about the other bands though.
-
Wrong. Brendan Benson is great.

So I saw on the Brian Jonestown Massacre website that the High Dials record "A New Devotion" is available for download along with all the BJM stuff.....
I hope they got permission to post it....I imagine they did.

Realizing you are a fan just confirmed my opinion of him. A mediocre performer writing mediocre songs.

Thanks, that's very sweet of you to say.

damm and here i though i was going to debunk my reputation of liking medicore performers and songwriters... guess i'll be burning my brendan benson and mood elevator cds this afternoon. but it's real shame because loads of other people like those cd, guess they are as deaf and dumb as me...

Brendan Benson, Old 97s and Pernice Brothers seem to be three of the bands/performers that Rhett gets quite a bit of agreement from the Board on. All three, great. In my opinion. :D

To each their own. I was unimpressed by him, but that's just my opinion.
