scissor sisters only. i was going to have a pre-party at my place, invite a few bboarders over for drinks before the show - but the GF reminded me that we have dinner plans before the show. dang.
if sparklehorse wasn't playing at coachella, i'd consider trekking up to b'more for the thursday night show.
-
So she's a hindrance to the pre-party??!!
Dinner where? See ya at SPICES?

no no, not her fault... having din-din with neighbors, we set it up along time ago. would be awkward to back out of their invitation, only to have a party at my place instead :)

Alright already, we know she's pregnant.
And we know you always do something BESIDES the shows discussed here.
I have a feeling you'll be the guy telling stories about his 37 month old...
-
Thermals
-
Taking my niece and nephew to Rock n' Romp on Sat
-
I am going to brush off your negativity, and would encourage others to do so as well.

I'd love to make it to Of Montreal, but it's kind of out of the way.
I'll probably be at the Thermals on Friday.
-

My negativity extends to exactly one person here...who's self-perceived job in life is to be a noodge to people who listen to music he thinks is mediocre crap.
-
Thermals on Sunday night.
and no more Young Knives tonight since they're having Visa issues :(
-
Anyone else going to the carpark weekend thing at the warehouse?
-
i am, since i set it up!

THERMALS RULED!

no need to elaborate. really.

I saw them once, long ago, at a Subpop CMJ showcase. I didn't care much for their music, but I sure loved the way the bassist's boobies bobbled.

Yeah they did pretty much rule. As much as I want to make that carpark thing, it seems as though I won't be able to after all. :(
Was really looking forward to Dan Deacon and WZT Hearts too.
-
Oh? You agreeing with me OR you want me to shut up about it?! I couldn't tell.

The Thermals were great. The sound, not so much.
The Big Sleep started out strong but kind of fizzled.
Statehood was pretty generic.
-

not so much agreeing as hoping you'd tell us why they ruled :) you know, a few details... what exactly worked for you about the show, what was it like to be there, etc...
-
These were my thoughts exactly. Those first two big sleep songs had me excited for the rest of their set; too bad it ended up being boring sans a few highlights.

The Big Sleep bored me to death when they opened for Tapes 'N Tapes last time, so I skipped them last night...I'm glad you guys agree.
-
WSC played a decent set, they had some equipment malfunctions and someone was sitting in on drums. Randy does a lot for that band, the difference was obvious.
-
Shit, you were being sarcastic when you said "no need to elaborate. really." !!!

Grizzly Bear were great. Is it me or was a lot of their material altered a bit in order to give it more of a rock feel in a live setting?
Beach House left a little to be desired. Maybe it was because they were an opener and the sound wasn't mixed all that well?
Papercuts were impressive. I'd only heard a few tracks prior to seeing them and that was a while ago so I really didn't know what to expect.

I think they have to alter the material because it's near impossible to produce what they do in the studio in a live setting. But yes, the songs were much heavier last night.
Brilliant harmonizing by all four Grizzlies and Ed Droste is an amazing singer. Great show.
-
That makes sense.
-
sorry, but that show last night at the black cat was a real snoozer.
-
for anyone hoping to show up at the state theater tomorrow night and buy a ticket at the door: Of Montreal is now sold out.
damn. sometimes being a slacker sucks... then i forget to do anything about it :) anyone got a spare? pretty please?
-
Asobi Seksu cancelled last minute, something about the singer getting sick. Hospital sick. I haven't done any poking around online yet to try and find out what exactly happened and whether she's okay. Anyone know anything?
It's a good thing I was already planning on heading over to see Red Sparowes after Asobi Seksu's set, because it would have really sucked for me to have driven all the way down to DC for nothing.
I've missed three or four chances to see Asobi Seksu now, which really sucks. :(
Red Sparowes attempted to demolish the Rock and Roll Hotel with a ridiculously amazing wall of sound. Awesome show.
Everyone have fun with Of Montreal. I was originally planning on going, but then Badly Drawn Boy was announced. I've seen Of Montreal before, but I've never seen Badly Drawn Boy, so the latter wins. I'm considering driving over to Philly on Thursday to catch Of Montreal over there, though.
-
from Asobi's myspace blog:
"Sorry again but Yuki had to go the ER after our Providence show and was diagnosed with flu, exhaustion and dehydration. We will be back up and moving for our Pittsburgh show on Tuesday".

saw thermals on sunday night. the band was up front most of the big sleep's set and were having a blast dancing, although from their great 90s dance moves, id have thought they were mocking the band. but apparently theyre all good friends and love the band.
thermals played an awesome set lasting somewhere over the hour mark. the crowd loves them, and the place was a mass of people jumping, crashing into another, etc for most the set. the lead singer loved the energy. id say there were a good 20 songs that were played, if not more. i was tempted to see them the next night in brooklyn, but studio b is not my idea of fun (at least getting there).
and the guys are totally friendly and approachable making me love the thermals all the more.
-
Surprised Of Montreal didn't sell out sooner.
See state theatre? If you book stuff other than generic jamband wankery, you make money.
-
The last show they played there was packed too... May have sold out the night of.
Could this mean a club show the next time they're in town? <cough seth>
-
so.... how was Of Montreal? how much should i be kicking myself for having slept on buying myself a ticket? should Seth bring them to the 930 next time or not?
-
Isn't last weekend over, doesn't someone need to start a new thread?
-
I'm sure Of Montreal will be back (they tend to tour a lot). Or Coachella on April 27th at 1 PM (per their myspace page!)
