So I finally went to the Birchmere with my roommate. He said it reminds him of "being in a barn full of rednecks sitting on hay bales".
What does the Birchmere remind you of?

Good Food

Who did you see? My times there haven't been even remotely like that. Your roommate must've had some stereotyped images of the place in his mind and saw at least one little thing that for him confirmed all of his suspicions.

Josh Ritter..
He was born and raised in a redneck town, so I just thought it was funny when he said it...

Ask a beginning ESL student how to say that. Pimping English ain't easy.

It always reminds me of my college 'Rathskeller'; not just from all the tables, but also the menu is similar. In fact a few of those moldy Birchmere acts probably played my college Rathskeller a few decades ago

I went to the old birchmere once to see the judybats with john s. hall opening. It felt like a hole in the wall dive. On the backs of the menus were plans for their new location, which seemed like a joke at the time.

I've only been there once, for Colin Meloy and Laura Veirs, which was a fantastic show. I was fairly impressed by the venue itself. I don't think it really "reminds" me of anything, but it was a nice change from normal venues, something a bit different. I wouldn't mind going back sometime, but they just don't get many shows I want to see. I almost drove down for Josh Ritter, though, and I'm thinking about Sondre Lerche.

I forgot to mention: The food is par excellence. Even better than the acts. The food is reason enough.
