please excuse the commercial interruption, i just spent way too much time putting these up on amazon, check out my "storefront" here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/shops/index.html?ie=UTF8&sellerID=A17R53LWNYN8BT)
everything is priced on the low-end of what people are selling each used CD for on amazon ... let me know (PM me on here) if you see anything you like (especially if you want to buy in bulk) and we can work out a better deal and a local drop-off
i have a bunch of other CDs that just didn't make sense to sell on there due to the low prices each was garnering ... i'm also considering offers for my colin meloy tour EPs
thanks for contributing to my vinyl fund :D
-
ps, fico: cartel's "safety in numbers" EP is selling for absurd amounts of $$ on amazon
-
I'd be interested in the discs you listed by The Replacements, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Jam, Paul Simon, The Smiths, Q and Not U, and Billy Bragg.
If you feel like cutting out the middleman and offering me a bulk deal let me know... I'm gone starting tomorrow for two weeks, but I'm good for it.
-
I'm interested in about 9 of them if you want to make some sort of bulk deal on them.
- Nuetral Milk Hotel
- Band of Horses
- Shins Oh Inverted
- Paul Simon
- Sex Pistols
- Animal Collective
- Decemebrists 5 songs
- Belle & Sebastian Lazy Painter Jane.
PM Me when you see this message.
-
check all ya'lls PMs
-
i would also consider swaps for vinyl if anyone's interested in that ... sorry for the clutter to everyone else
-
Selling all your cd's? What you do, accept Jesus as your personal saviour?

there was a thread on this earlier
i listen to 99% of my music via MP3, and as a result, my CDs go unused (at least 3/4 of the CDs i've never actually listened to, just ripped them to MP3 and listened to them that way) ... i can always burn a CD of my digital files if i need it in that format
so i'm switching to vinyl for my physical media, which seems like it would be more fun to collect than CDs

I just sent you a PM for the Green Pajamas CD. Also, please let me know if you have any other Green Pajamas CDs to go. I've been putting off buying them for years. Guess now is the time.

feel free to air it out, i like having these kinds of discussions
1) i'm not an audiophile and i don't mind having 256kbps+ MP3s as my main music collection (i understand that i lose fidelity when i rip the CD to MP3s and maintain that lost fidelity if/when i burn a CD from those MP3s)
2) i don't have a comprehensive CD collection (a ton of my CDs were stolen a few years back and i've slowly built it back up) and my MP3s are FAR more "completist" than my CDs were
3) i'm looking forward to starting a modest vinyl collection, and selling my CDs gives me a big boost in that direction without spending "new" money
4) how bout them hoyas?! lordy!

EXTREMELY close
i liked this comment on the hoyas message board:
"In one of the few intelligent comments on ESPN's board somebody said it was a bit like Jeff Green's "travel" against Vandy last year. If you look at it in super-slow motion on 10x zoom you might have seen Jeff's foot lift a tiny bit when he was pivoting. With this, if you look at it over and over again in slow motion you might be able to see the ball dip a tiny bit. But neither of those are perceptible in real time, so there's no way the ref could have made the call."
there's NO WAY a ref could have called that block goaltending with the game on the line and 1 second left, to say otherwise just embarrasses yourself
-
It should be able to be reviewed just as they do some other plays.Terrible rule. If it had been a popularly known player, the call would've been made. Ewing Jr. got the block, nuff said.
If our foul shooting would have been one notch above pathetic tonight,it wouldn't even be an issue. We'd have won by double digits. We gave it away.Huggy will have them shooting free throws, guaranteed!
Hope to do it again in March at the Garden.

how about copyright considerations? as a law student, i'm sure you're familair with the rap... you're allowed keeping a back-up of the music as long as you own the original, so by selling the disk you're transfering your license thus you should delete the MP3s yadda yadda wet blanket wet blanket...
for sale: one glass house, minor repairs needed due to stone-throwing.

agreed, this is the elephant in the room ... and frankly i'm not completely comfortable openly discussing my own legal jeopardy on here, but let's just say that i love my MP3s ... if push came to shove i'd probably just sign up for one of those napster/rhapsody monthly licensing deals

that's a real cop-out, i don't see any ref making that call against ANY player in that situation, it's simply too close and the default position in an end-game scenario is no call, whether it be goaltending, foul, whatever ... if you looked closely, your bald center leaned into a pick on rivers a few seconds earlier that sprung the shooter to the rim, that definitely could have been called, but what ref would do so in a last-play situation?
ed hightower (who, incidentally, was killing us all game) was the ref with the responsibility to call goaltending on that play ... hightower is widely considered one of the best refs in college hoops, if he decided not to call it, then i trust his judgment

this is the truth right here, you guys definitely beat yourselves on the charity stripe and deserved to win that game ... send me a PM if you're going to the garden, i absolutely love that tourney

It was the legal argument and I withdrew my comment primarily because it's not likely anyone's home is going to raided over the issue

have you seen what they're going for on ebay :D
i would be looking for something in that range, just cutting out the middleman

ya think? if the RIAA can sue a midwestern house wife for a quarter million, i wouldn't put it past them... they just need some time to free up the lawyers.
hey hoya, looking for a job after you graduate? (kidding, of course).

i hereby rescind this statement ;)

What's going to happen if someone steals your mp3 or computer? You're fucked aren't you?
-
admittedly, i haven't given much thought to someone "stealing my MP3" ... i guess i'd just have to tip my hat to their ingenuity
stealing my computer? doesn't seem like any different calculus on my part then protecting a music collection on CD, cassette, vinyl, what have you ... i guess i just have to hope noone breaks into my house and hauls out my tower
i have ~155 GB of music right now, most of which is backed up on DVDs which i leave over at a friend's house ... with the price of hard drives plummeting, i'm considering just buying one strictly for backups, would make it a lot easier ... if i had any money i'd get a safe-deposit box and toss a backed-up hard drive in there (how expensive are those boxes to rent?)
-

I had one at Chevy Chase bank and paid $37 per year. It was a small one for passports etc so I imagine a larger one would be a whopping $80 per year or something...
-
I had no clue these were so rare. Time to start eBaying!
As I mentioned to you in a PM, I'm taking a similar initiative, although mine is more for space than anything else...I just don't have the room for such a huge physical collection. I'm taking a slower route, though. I'm phasing out CDs and replacing only essential (to me, anyway) CDs with vinyl before removing.

actually that's not bad at all, i could probably fit a hard drive in one of the small ones ... take it out every few months to backup and toss it back in again ... hmmm

that makes sense to me, i'm kind of ripping the band-aid off here ... it definitely feels weird to let some of my favorite albums go out the mailbox, but i really never listened to the actual CDs anyway ... and trolling ebay for vinyl is a lot of fun =), paying $15-20 for a smiths or 'mats LP doesn't seem that bad
-
Try $130 for an original Ween "The Pod" album. Oof.

Is that what desperate people pay for an obscure band? :D

or several thousand for GBV's Propeller, I have spent a lot of money buying GBV vinyl on Ebay but I think I will until I win the lottery before going after that one
-

Didn't they just re-release that? Or are you hardcore enough to buy the original? Man, that would be awesome.

yeah, i have the rerelease, I am not in the market for the original, the oldest original I have is vampire on titus, and I got that for $20 off ebay a few years ago
-
I haven't taken the time to look through GBV vinyl yet, but I was super surprised to see a Box LP set on ebay for fairly cheap. How much do those usually pull?

there are different versions of it, and you could still buy it from scat directly up until a couple of years ago, I never bought it on vinyl, but it is usually over 100 I think, I dont look as often as I used to
here is a gallery of known propeller vinyl http://www.propellergallery.com/ (http://www.propellergallery.com/)

Hey Hoya,
How did this work out for you? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I have way too many CDs that are just sitting in boxes taking up space.
-
I can't comment for Hoya, but I've sold 7 on amazon in the last two weeks, and cleared about $15-$20. You're definitely not going to get rich.
-
Agreed...but it's almost always more money than eBay.

i've sold 36 CDs on amazon so far for $240 (that's after amazon fees/commission but not including postage) and another ~15 CDs to people from the board for a similar ratio ($5-7 per CD) ... there's still a lot left to go, but they're selling at a pretty regular clip
it took a weekend afternoon to put it all up on amazon, so i guess you have to decide whether that's worth it for you
-
maybe a 9:30 Forum swap meet is in order... I've got a bunch of left over Tower stuff that I'd might want to recover some money on...
-
Yes, I'm sure people will be dying to buy some of that. ;)

Seeing as I only bought extras of stuff I already owned and knew was top notch.... Not much point in buying crap
-
Then I reckon your Tower leftover selection to be better than mine. At this point, my Tower leftover selection consists of maybe a dozen cd's that:
a. I didn't like
b. no cd stores have been willing to buy
c. my brother didn't want for free
d. no Amazon customers have been willing to buy OR are selling for so cheap on amazon they're not worth posting...

More people should post the CDs they want to get rid of. I'm a sucker for CD sales and will usually buy a handful I'll listen to once.
