Thanks.

thanks for the heads-up dude. when i first logged on, it said "presale sold out". i hit refresh a few times, and pulled a ticket.
unfortunately i can't take them (but fortunately i remembered this time :) ). will-call tickets are a no-go since i can't commit to being in DC during the week that far into the future - the threat of being put on an out-of-town project is a constant one for me. so go ahead y'all, grab these tickets... hopefully that will free up the field for me to grab a "regular" ticket that i can pass on if i sadly can't make the show.
-
Do you really think it will sell out that fast? I am going to be in meetings when the presale starts, so won't be able to grab one then.
-
Dang, I missed it.
-

I expect it to sell out within an hour of the public sale starting on Saturday. That's just my opinion, though.
Anyone agree/disagree?
-
Guess I kind of answered my own question, tomorrow is just the presale. I am free to get some Saturday if I fail tomorrow. Still didn't think it would sell out, but I may be wrong.
-
watch out guys; that's a DCFC fan club onsale, and they have threatened to cancel ANY tickets purchased by non-members. and their fan club just started and its probably not big, so i wouldn't put it past them at all.
-
and to any non-sayers; this show will sell out immediately.

Um, I think you are mistaken. I thought the "fanclub" presale was earlier this week (Monday) through the fanclub site and this is a general presale. Nothing on that link mentions that non DCFC-fanclub members will get their tickets cancelled and you can register for the username and password just by filling out a form.

this isn't the DCFC presale, this is a general presale. nothing on the site mentions DCFC fan-club only. that presale happened earlier this week (just ask el tee).
my prediction: the 930 presale will sell out immediately (because the added hype of a presale bring'em in) but the public onsale will last a little while 'cause all the presales will have soaked up demand.
-
i didn't get the volume thing yet in the mail, could someone please post the password for this morning? thanks!
-
Maaan, how fast do you think the presale will go? I won't be in a computer class at 10 AM...
-

Could someone PM me the password, as well? I'm in the same boat. I emailed [list_serve at 930 dot com] a while ago and they haven't updated it yet.
-
Hey - Anyone receive the presale password??
-
Awesome. How are we supposed to buy tickets for this?!
-
got me man, i emailed them and no response. this sucks
-
I was trying to get Damien Rice tickets over on Ticketmaster but the wait is 15mins+!!
-
Awesome! Thanks again!!
How did you get the password anyway??
-
got em thanks!
-
My newsletter is late too. Good thing my fiancee somehow found out about some password last night and got tickets!

It is in the Volume newsletter which is a once-a-month print newsletter sent out to people with previews of all the upcoming shows at 9:30 Club. Every month they have one show dubbed the "secret subscriber" show which has a special password-only presale. This month's secret subscriber show is Ben Gibbard.
You can avoid missing out on future presales by subscribing to the Volume newsletter and the weekly email blasts which occasionally have their own presales in them.
-
Yeah - I usually get the print newsletter...
Is there a ticket limit to this show?? I know that there was for the presale...
-
I honestly don't care so much when you send PM's to people giving them the password for these sales, but when you post it out in the open on the forum it sort of violates the spirit of these sales.
-
Oh whatever! They need to make it CLEAR that the password was in the PRINT NEWSLETTER - I mean, WTF?!
-

I took it down after 3 minutes.
Considering half the newbies don't know how to tell when they have a PM, I don't see the difference between posting it for a minute or two and then editing the thread and PMing it.
But whatever, I won't post it again.

It is clear to those who are subscribers to the Volume newsletter.
-
Well, the link on the front page says "Volume subscribers click here". That should make it pretty clear that the password came from the Volume newsletter.
-

Apparently 4 in the presale and 4 in the regular.
I'm pretty sure if you made 2 orders in the presale, though, neither would get cancelled. I've done that before in a presale when the limit was 2 and neither got cancelled. Don't bet the farm on my experience, though.
-
Dude - How am I supposed to know that there is a diff. between the old-school print newsletter and the weekly email? I figured that they were the same, and if anything, that the email version would be more current. My hardcopy newsletter often times arrives mid-month if at all. I mean - WTF? Spell the shit out next time: PRESALE FOR PRINT MAILINGLIST MEMBERS ONLY
-
I just got 3 tickets... ended up paying $22 in "service charges"... but convenience has a price I guess..
-
Give the guy a break. I'm in Springfield and I hardly ever get my newsletter in time - I'm certain it will be in the mailbox tonight. If they can't get these newsletters out in time maybe they should just quit doing these super secret mystery sales. Only the privledged few ever seem to have the password.
-
Yeah Suckka! Give me a BREAK!!
-
yeah seriously, thank you julian.
will ben be playing new tunes or just stripped down versions of death cab songs. anyone know?
-
And will there be a mosh pit? That's my number one concern.
-
Was a presale really necessary? You guys think this will sell out really quickly? What's up with all the Sold Out shows anyway? It's like EVERY SINGLE SHOW is sold out! This didn't use to happen - Any thoughts??
-

We don't know for sure, but in past one-and-off solo gigs he's played stuff off his solo 'HOME: Volume 5' EP, stripped down DCFC songs, stripped down Postal Service tunes, and some covers.
Here's the setlist from my favorite Ben solo bootleg (Jan 06):
Brand New Colony
Photobooth
Title And Registration
You Remind Me Of Home*
(This Is) The Dream Of Evan And Chan
Why'd You Want To Live Here
It'll Be A Breeze [The Long Winters]
Recycled Air
Crooked Teeth
405
We Have The Facts And We're Voting Yes
I Hate To See You Cry [Alan Hull]
Farmer Chords*
Lookout Here Comes Tommorrow [Neil Diamond]
Sound Of Settling
Such Great Heights
I Will Follow You Into The Dark
A Lack Of Color
-----
Hold On [Spiritualized]
* - Ben's solo material.

I would be shocked if tickets were available past noon on Saturday. Not an instant sellout, but within an hour.
-
i'd be psyched with that setlist.

They don't call themselves DEATH CAB for nothing. How quickly we forget the 14 people crushed to death at the band's April 2006 DAR concert!!
-
I'll never forget buying tickets to the DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT tour at 9:30 a few years ago. I printed out the confirmation email and a hippie guy I used to work with scoffed and said something sarcastic along the lines of "sounds like wholesome family fun." I just had to laugh...could either of those bands be safer and less accurately named?

Haha, I was at that show as well.
I had a similar experience buy Dismemberment Plan tickets in Richmond, the ticketmaster lady looked at me like I was going to see live decapitations or something. Similar experience buying Garbage tickets as well.

It's all a bit strange. I used the same link. The text may have been different stating members only. I could have waited for the leak here, since I didn't exactly like paying extra via the fan club. I just don't have the time to keep up with everyone else.
I still haven't received my Volume any other goodies or news I should know?

Click on "my profile" in the upper right hand corner. On that screen you will have a private message from me. The password is in that message.
-
i miscalled this one - gibbard tickets still available, an hour and a quarter after the presale started. maybe there's less demand out there than thought - or the delay in delivering this month's volume is taking a toll. suggestion to the club: don't have a volume presale the same week as it is being shipped out.
i'm glad i managed to snag my pair!
-
I bought two pairs sep. - i didn't see any ticket limits posted...
-
can someone please hook me with the password
-
What is face value of ticket?
-

$25/ticket. Service/convenience/shipping fees came out to $28 on the 4 tickets I purchased.
-
I haven't received my Volume yet. I'm bored so I'm gonna see if I can just guess the password...
-
Can anyone pm me the password? I only received the Damien Rice presale password. Thanks in advance.

your math is different than mine... 4 tickets = $128 (4 x $25 face + 4 x $6 service + $4 ship), i.e. $32 each. did you buy your tickets somewhere other than tickets.com?
-
Got the password, thanks to sweetcell. Not as obvious as I thought it would be...
So if presale tix are somehow still available tonight, does anyone know if you can go to the club to buy em?
-
could someone please send me the password? i'm going to be traveling tomorrow when tickets go on sale and i really don't want to miss this show.

Sorry for being unclear. I meant $25/ticket (face) x 4 tickets = $100, plus $28 crap fees = $128 total, which matches your $32/ticket x 4 tickets.

Wait, I get Volume and I read it all and I didn't see Gibbard pre-sale info.
My understanding was that the show was going on soft sale at the club Saturday at 10:00. Since it was a soft sale, I felt secure I could go by the club after 12:00 and pick up tickets.
Am I misguided?

It's a soft sale? I was unaware of that.

It's listed in the soft sale section of the weekly email.
"For loyal readers of our email blasts only, we list yet-to-be-advertised or "Soft Sale" shows at the 9:30 Club:"
Show is listed as:
"Th 5/10 Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab For Cutie & The Postal Service) w/ David Bazan (of Pedro the Lion) & Johnathan Rice
On Sale Saturday, March 3 @ 10am"
Does that mean the 'soft sale' begins Saturday? That was my assumption.
-
I don't recall it being listed as a soft sale either.
The presale info is definitely in the March Volume newsletter.
[edit] I guess it does look like it's listed that way. Seems kind of weird to announce a soft-sale that far in advance though. And on a Saturday?
-

It appears the band/Ben wanted the shows to all go on sale the same weekend. There's too many for it to be a coincedence.

I have been trying to purchase tickets for the last hour and 22 minutes, no such luck. WTF, any thoughts. I really should be concertrating more in my masters class, but this is indeed a rare show.
-
well, i was partially wrong - the fan club pointed to that site, but the site doesn't mention anything about fan club members only. as far as i can tell, they have no grounds for canceling someone's order b/c they're not in the fan club - no warning was given on the website. that e-mail warning was sent to members only, how's a non-member to know? methinks they have no legal grounds for order cancellation (hoya?).
easy way to get a final answer here: JULIAN - has your order been canceled? any reversed charges on your credit card?
-
martinrob - I got through (for the regular soft-sale) right at 10 this morning, but just went back to check now (4 pm Saturday) and it looks like the tickets.com site is working again. If you gave up earlier, I'd say go back and try another time...
-
If you go to the Death Cab home page under "Shows", it says the presale was eventually opened to the public. You're fine.
-
thanks for the heads up jtduffin
got 2 no problem, cant wait!
-
This is definitely a soft sale. I took my chances and went by the club at 6:00 when the box office opened and got 6 ticket, easy peasy.
The crowd for Killswitch Engage was interesting -- nearly all in black t-shirts. I was wearing a headband and a peach sweater; I was pretty clearly buying tickets for another show. ;)
-
weekend's now over, and still tickets left for the gibbard show. surprizing. and in other news, GB&Q finally sold out.
-
Who is Ben Gibbard?
-
apparently you're not the only person asking that question :)
-
Looks to be sold out.
-
Are all tickets to the Gibbard solo show sold out or just the presale/softsale tickets?
Is there a general onsale date that has been announced or is expected?
Thanks!
-
Soft sale sold out = completely sold out...
(unless they release tickets close to day of show)
-
That's crushing. I know it probably futile to ask, but does anyone have an extra?
Thanks,
Ryan

You must not go to many, if any, metal shows. Not that I go to very many myself, as my tastes in metal are very particular, but I'd say that what I saw of the crowd there was actually pretty tame. It's funny you should say that about how what you were wearing made you stand out, because there have been a couple times I've actually purposely dressed completely opposite of what you're "supposed" to look like when going to a metal show. :D
