So rumors are flying about which bands will be on this tour. Apparently, Interpol, Mogwai, The Cooper Temple Clause, The Rapture and Muse have all been mentioned. One site says an official announcement will come out next week. If the bands mentioned are actually on the tour, then I will definitely be going.
-
Cure Announce Festival Tour With Interpol, Rapture, Mogwai
The Curiosa Festival 2004 will feature the Cure headlining a bill that also includes three bands plainly influenced by Robert Smith and company: Interpol, the Rapture and Mogwai.
A second stage will also be part of the traveling road show, with Muse, Thursday, Cursive, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Cooper Temple Clause and Head Automatica rotating as performers.
The tour kicks off July 24 in the unlikely tropical setting of West Palm Beach, Florida, and ends August 27 in Los Angeles. Venues have yet to be confirmed, and additional dates are still being added.
Dates for the Curiosa Festival 2004, according to a band spokesperson:
7/24 - West Palm Beach, FL
7/25 - Tampa, FL
7/28 - Nashville, TN
7/29 - Atlanta, GA
7/31 - New York, NY
8/1 - Camden, NJ
8/3 - Cincinnati, OH
8/4 - Cleveland, OH
8/7 - Boston, MA
8/11 - Detroit, MI
8/12 - Chicago, IL
8/14 - Dallas, TX
8/15 - Houston, TX
8/17 - Denver, CO
8/18 - Salt Lake City, UT
8/27 - Los Angeles, CA
More dates to be announced soon.

So if they don't come to DC, I guess it's NY, Boston or heading down to Florida where my family now lives. Hmm. Hopefully the official announcement next week will include venues (and the additional dates!).
-
7/30 - Columbia, MD
-
hmm the lineup dosen't really float my boat... i'd like to read some reviews see setlists before committing. if it's a show i'm meant to see i'll get last minute tickets otherwise no bigger

where did you here July 30 in Columbia?

Well Kosmo..if their setlist is anything like Coachella's setlist, fans will be in for a real treat. "A Hundred Years", "Close to Me", "Push", "A Night Like This", "A Forest", "Just Like Heaven", "Fascination Street", "In Between Days", "Lullaby", "Pictures of You", "Love Song", "Boys Don't Cry", etc. etc. They even played "Charlotte Soemtimes" and "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea".

Anybody find a bootleg of that yet? If so, please post. Thanks in advance.

So do we think that the Cure is counting their HFStival appearance as their DC date? I know, July 30 and August 2 are both open dates. I'm a pessimist, though, and I can't believe I may have to go to NY if I want to see Curefest....

& a great version of this - re-arranged to almost a pop song. Yet still dark & moody. Quite nice I thought.

i hope it's not 100% like the coachella sets.
i don't want an entire show of singles and new songs. deep green sea is the only non-single on that list and they've played it at every show of theirs i've seen, so i really don't have an interest in seeing it again. deep green sea and fascination street are songs that have been in the setlist of basically every show they've played since the album that song was on was released. i'd rather them pull out some more obscure material.. at least sometimes. at least in the 2000 tour they pulled out some songs like siamese twins (hadn't been played since 87/89 or so) and pornography (i don't remember if 87 or 92 was the last time before 00).
-
better catch 'em @ HFStival - cause otherwise they're giving us the finger...
and why the fuck anyone who's ever been to cleveland would willingly return, i don't know... must have good hookers/drugs or something
so much for an enjoyable, laid back cure concert experience this summer
-
Hang tight. I'm sure a DC area date is gonna happen. They likely won't announce it until after HFStival so as to not kill interest in that show. I'm guessing a Merriweather show in early August. Humidity does wonders to mascara and hair spray.

So apparently there is now a date at Merriweather on August 6th. A link to TM at that Chain of Flowers website is no longer working. They also said that there is a presale on Monday.
-
The link appears to be working again. The presale starts 5/26. Anyone know if there's a password involved?

double checking.. the august date at merriweather is for the cure?

FINALLY:
For the presale info, you MUST sign up for the 9:30 Club email. Board regulars can PM me for that information if you have troubles..... ;)
Cure Presale
------------------------------------------------------------------------
CURE-ious?
Playing happy synth-pop over melancholy lyrics with a uniquely fashioned frontman, The Cure became one of the most popular bands of the '80s.
The godfathers of Goth will release their much antipicated new album, The Cure, July 29. The fascination continues as The Cure bring their Curiosa Festival 2004 to Merriweather this August.
WHFS 99.1 and I.M.P. Present
Curiosa Festival 2004 featuring
THE CURE
w/ Interpol â?¢ The Rapture â?¢ Mogwai
August 6
Merriweather Post Pavilion â?¢ Columbia, MD
Presale begins Wednesday, May 26 from 10am-10pm.
Regular public on sale Saturday, June 19th @ Noon through Ticketmaster

$75 for seats? no thanks.
as much as i like the cure (seeing 5 shows last tour), i don't think i could justify paying that for the show. that's more expensive than coachella was, with a fraction of the lineup. not to mention i've already seen all the bands i want to see at the festival... play full sets... for a total of less than it would cost to go to this.
i previously was excited about going to some of these shows. i no longer am. i don't know if i'll even go to one now.
i think i'll head to ACL instead.
-
my thoughts exactly!!! $75 is absurd. I was going to go and now i MAY go, but only to buy lawn tickets because I want to see Muse. And if things stay the way they have been, Muse will be back here in 2007. so I'll pay the 40, and hang at the 2nd stage, and sit on the lawn for Interpol and The Cure.
$75 sucks, really bad. and yes, that was the cost of a Coachella ticket.
-
Crap Crap Crap. I was REALLY looking forward to this one. Looks like it's gonna be another of those only-if-I-get-in-the-first-few-rows shows. Hopefully the presale will work out.

whats new?

I won't be going to the Cure show, but maybe I'll wear my Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me t-shirt to Beulah.

Me neither...seen them twice already, which is enough. First time was at the old Capital Centre, which was a good show. Second time was at Merriweather which was crap.
Won't be wearing a t-shirt either....and I hope you made your t-shirt yourself Mr. Rhett Miller!

Because I'm not willing to pay $75 to see them from mediocre seats. I'd easily pay that much for a theater show, but I'm not willing to sit in the back of an amphitheater at that price. Besides, I've seen them before. It won't kill me if I miss them.
-
Aha, I see Skeeter. The willingness to sit in seats up close threw me...sonick, you got that? Yeah, I'm dense, got no problems with that. I think it will be a fun day...I'm not dying to see any of the bands, but am interested to see a bunch of 'em.
-

Well, that's another thing. I don't really care about any of the other bands. I'm sure I'll check them out if I go, but I'm really looking at this as just another Cure show.
-
I got the t-shirt back in the 80's...back when you could get a concert t-shirt for 10 bucks. I don't have anything against a 10-15 dollar concert t-shirt, it's the 40 dollar t-shirts that I doth protest.

pre-sale pw:
time for the rat-bastards @ ticketmaster to spank us for another concert...
i expect a lot of people will balk @ $75, especially for a roster of bands most have never heard of.
re: hfstival performance
wtf! all the top 40 hits?! 3/4 of the peeps left after offspring ... and every time they played something off of the new cd, MORE people got up & left(?)
robert kind'a looks like burl ives now - playing his acoustic guitar on top of that big hairy belly!

Is this $75 an estimated amount or the actual price?? if it's Merriweather they will charge an extra 10 for parking plus other service charges...we could be looking at a $90 ticket or more...

I'm sure someone could tell us what a $10 t-shirt in the 80's would be the equivilent of now......GGW????
-
I think I posted this before:
http://inflationdata.com/inflation/inflation_rate/InflationCalculator.asp (http://inflationdata.com/inflation/inflation_rate/InflationCalculator.asp)
Inflation between May, 1987 (about the time I bought the t-shirt) to April, 2004=66.22%
Thus, that $10 t-shirt should go for $16.62 now.

The link for the presale says tickets are $40-75. That means even a lawn ticket will probably cost about $50 with the service fees.
-
Actually - here's what the web page says:
GENERAL ADMISSION FLOOR $75.00
MAIN PAVILION SEATING $60.00
LOGE PAVILION SEATING $60.00
GENERAL ADMISSION LAWN $40.00
GA/FLOOR? Is that the pit?
-
Question -- even for the Cure alone, did anyone think tickets would be less than $40?
-
No - but I was expecting somewhere around $50. $75 was a bit of a shock. $60 isn't too bad though.
-
the posting of presale passwords is frowned upon around here... seeing as there are other ways to get them, including asking nicely, any advantage of the presale password is lost if it gets publically posted.
-
I had a very nice offer in with much lower tix, and then ClearChannel started making ridiculous offers to try and get them to play Nissan - either that, or they knew The Cure wanted to play Merriweather and figured they'd cost us some money at least - that's how they think
so, in order to get the show, this is what we had to charge
we were still able to keep the tickets lower than what they were going to charge, however
the $75 is just for the pit, and there's not very many of them available
$60 is still not bad for all the bands they're bringing, though - $40 for the lawn is an outright bargain, in my opinion
-
what the fuck?????
I can't get my friggin tickets..."Access to our ticketing system is currently limited."
-
I had no problems getting my tickets...
-
thanks, rub it in

Samantha, try going straight into the ticketmaster website instead of using the link on the e-mail. I got mine but I've had friends who've had trouble too....hope it works kiddo..
-
No problem with the site, although I couldn't bring up tickets good enough to purchase. Guess I'll try again later.
-
it wouldn't let me go to any ticketmaster page
anyways, I got 'em, LC row JJ. I haven't been to the Pavillion in ages, are these good seats?
-
Could someone PLEASE email me the pre-sale password.
I was all set to buy tickets but my old email with the password is at home sitting on my pc, and I have no idea what the hell it is..
Thanks, to all

ooops!
sorry, now i know...
-
sigh, I hope I got good tickets, that was such a huge ordeal. this is basically my 18th birthday party, as my bday is the day after. thanks ticketmaster for making it so EASY
-
Thanks for the email everyone.
-
You'll be able to see fine. You're about 2/3 of the way back. Anywhere in the L-Center/Center/R-Center are decent seats. Hopefully, you're closer to the center than the outside edge. You should end up having a happy birthday :)
-
:D I hope so, thanks
-
I'm happy with my tickets: Left Center, Row CC.
-
awww. for the sake of my feelings could anyone with better tickets than me not post their location :D
I didn't realize how nervewrecking ticketbuying was...sheesh
-
presales like this make me appreciate radiohead/waste presales. i've yet to get even mediocre tickets from waste in the years i've been using them.
-
I just got center section row C
not bad.

I prefer seats over sitting on the lawn. You'll be able to see FINE - better than those out on the lawn. Sometimes you can find someone that doesn't mind trading tickets/seats for a short time. And, if there is a late afternoon rainstorm, you'll be dry. Go and ENJOY!

Wow. I got Rt Center OO hours ago. Just goes to show....but out of 8 friends I have going, only two of us got seats (I figure over the course of 6 - 7 hours and the possibility of summer evening rain, they'll be envious when the time comes, and I can hang up with them when I want...).

exactly. perhaps there was a cure fanclub presale or something that couldve landed you kickass seats.
i heard that WASTE was the only way to but orchestra pit tickets at many of the venues last summer.

Damn - I tried all morning and went to lunch about 5 minutes too soon.
-
somehow i lucked out after 15 times and got 4 tickets to the pit.
no f'n clue how that happened because everytime i tried i was getting lawn seats.
-
i got right side row f
but i had to re-try about 15 times... they kept offering me row nn or worse.
FYI: pit tix are available - if you're willing to let the scalpers spank you for $205ea ( https://www.tickets4u.com (https://www.tickets4u.com) )
heck, the one on ebay is already up to $175!!!
sometimes better seats are released just before the show too. i gotta feeling this tour may not sell as well as past tours  (?)
-
i doubt it will sell out.

For anyone interested & willing to drive to Cleveland...
There's a pre-sale today for the show @ Blossom.
I just tried it out & was able to get 2 in the GA Pit.
Pretty cool. If you want the email, just send me a note & I'll forward it.
-
when will MUSE or Interpol be playing 930?
-
I would imagine Interpol will be touring after their album comes out in the Fall (September is it?).
-
tickets to the 8.6.04 show @ merriweather pavilion go on sale to the general public tomorrow morning through ticketbastards...
maybe they'll release some better seats than the crappy ones offered in the pre-sale(?)
or for around $200 you can pay the ratbastard scalpers for the only available pit tix
