From the NY Times review (http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/27/arts/music/27DUFF.html) of Hillary Duff's concert at Continental Arena:
Neither [Duff] sister is much of a singer; backup vocalists provided almost continuous unison support. But the Duffs' kiddie-pop is less a musical experience than a chance to wave glow sticks and scream, and Hilary Duff is determinedly benign. She's so relentlessly positive that when she delivered the Who's "My Generation" as a final encore, she altered a crucial line to sing, "Hope I don't die before I get old."

if she was hotter it would be a better show. thats why britney is on the tv right now...

heh heh... they mentioned her covering "My Generation" in the Post, but they left out that *very* crucial detail! As a result I had been thinking "that's actually kinda cool that she'd do that." But saccharinizing that song is just unspeakable!
as for hotness or lack thereof, not to sound like a dirty old man but I actually think she's very cute!!! and the lack of Britneyesque trashiness makes her more appealing, not less...

utterly speechless.... ... .. .. ...
really I'm speechless..... .....
..

ok and I thought I was done but I'm not done gah do people not know what's happened to the art form that is music. I mean I'm no genius by any merit but ah this is the one thing in life I get to enjoy and the worlds gone and tried to fuck that up for me. Bah I never even barely ever post and I'm posting. People are luck that I'm not there in real life rageing endlessly about this probably very dulldrom nonse crap to be bitching about but I just got off my shitty shitty work and I wanna read some decent treads about decent upstanding musical interest and there's one of Disney's (r) Duff Sisters (c) defaceing what is (ok arguebly maybe) a classic song ... ok I gotta breath I really shouldn't post this but oh well maybe I should post more.
Down with crap up with music. bye... till next time I have too much free time and too little people to talk to :o oh well

kids wear way too much makeup these days. she is a cute girl, she doesn't need all that. I'm almost 18 and I only wear makeup at night if I'm going out, and even then, not always. this is normal. gobs and gobs of makeup everyday at 15? that is not normal. sigh. I'm already becoming a mother.
-
I agree. I hope I DON'T die before I get old. The Who's lyrics were stupid.
-
Does anyone have the Hillary Duff presale password?? Puuulleeaaazze?
-
Two friends of mine went to see her live at The Patriot Center last week (they even got front row tickets).
No, these aren't two little girls that I know (because I don't know any) - these are two people (30+ in age) quite well known/seen out all the time at various events we all hang out at.
Very bizarre indeed, but if that it is what they want to do, why the hell not?!
Cheers
DJ Medusa.

Blelvis and Johnny DC (the guy that wears a ragged suit and walks back and forth on 18th st. with a newspaper under his arm)?

thats similar to what my piggy bank says...
"impressive, most impressive. but you are not a jedi yet!" then it makes a lightsaber noise but since it is old the lightsaber doesn't light up or raise. vaders lightsaber needs viagra...

Holy crap! that guy with the suit and newspaper has a name? My friends and I have been wondering what's up with him for the last two years or so. We always call him Ratso, since he kinda looks like Dustin Hoffman's character in Midnight Cowboy. But I like Johnny DC better.
Is that just your name for him or am I missing some tid bit of DC hipster lore?

Say what you want about Ms Duff...but the problem with music isn't her or her ilk.
The problem with music today is the lack of diversity, which is largely created by the way corporations like Clear Channel have hijacked the media outlets.
Morning Becomes Eclectic (on KCRW)is about the only place to regularly hear good, diverse music.
Some of us have the inclination, time, money, etc to actively seek out good music. Most people naively rely on radio/TV to expose them to the arts. And when all you get is American Idol, Blink-182, etc....well....eventually you get dumbed down.
-
I refuse to refer to a 16 year old child as MS. Duff.
-
Damn...she's only 16, huh?
Must get the bad bad bad thoughts out of my head.
:D
-
Bad enough that I'm replying to my own post ;=) but here's a great article from today's issue of The Onion that's pretty pertinent to this discussion.

I was wondering about that newspaper/suit guy myself...

Just think about this Duff, x.

All I hear of him is random stuff at the bar. I call him Johnny DC because a friend of mine came up with the moniker. I've seen him everywhere.
Legend has it that he's the son of a very wealthy publisher. No lie.

I think the term you were looking for is DC Johnny.
Rhett hopes he does not die before he gets old, because he is old already! Surely that is point of the song? Remember when rock and roll used to be rebellious and could turn good kids bad? No? Rhett does.
-
Huh?

It's DC Johnny, not Johnny DC.

C'mon Nighties fans. Back me up on this.

Word. Thirst has got it right.

Errr, when you say it, you always say DC Johnny.
One of us is having a breakdown. I hope it is not me, again.
-
You are clearly all wrong as my wife agrees with me. Wives are always right.
-
Your wife fears deportation. Of course she's going to agree with you.
-
Plus, there's a good chance she's already drunk.

I do not work for the D.O.S.
I did not lead her in the questioning in any way. Allthough she said "oww, you blighter, my thumbs might drop off if you turn the screws any tighter" when first asked.
As for being drunk, its the only think that stops her being aggressive.
-
I don't think there's many Nighties fans, NKOTBIE.
-
I'm so confused... Nighties? bar rumors? Publishing fortune?
Who knows what and how do they know it?
I see him less now that I live a few blocks away from U Street, but while living in my last two apartments (one just off U, the other just off 18th), I saw this guy every day. Every single time -- crinkled suit, newspaper under the arm, hobbling/shuffling down the street. Even now though, just about every visit to the Red Room, St-Ex, Stetsons, etc., I see him walk in, do a loop around the bar and leave.
-
That's him alright. Apparently he macks it to the waitresses. When I worked down at Penn and 9th I saw him walking around with two women. He was in an electric blue suit.

Are you guys talking abotu the Mayor of Adams Morgan again?
-

Man, even I know who that guy is.
Maybe we ought to call him Rosebud.
-
Ratso, Johnny DC, DC Johnny, Rosebud, and the Mayor of Adams Morgan.
If we could confirm the publishing fortune rumors, I'd vote for Mayor Johnny "Ratso" Rosebud (D-Adams Morgan)
-
i did my research and duff is only 7 months older than me.
her - 9/28/87
me - 5/27/88
hahahaha i can think dirty thoughts and you can't :p
but i won't because she is not hot, she's more in the alright category. right above average....
-
so flawd, didn't you just make fun of someone for being 13? Seems like you're eating your own.... :p
-
Thought it'd be relevant to point out on this thread that Ashlee Simpson has the #1 album in the country. We are officially in a musical recession.

but dillger escape plan mad the top 200....
when ashlee was blonde she was hot....that hid the horrible singing a little....now with black hair she is not worth watching on mute...anymore...
-
have to disagree and say she looks better with dark hair.
though a woman can't really qualify as "hot" unless she is over 30.

Yeah, but that's in teenage years which are sort of like dog years to we adults who lose that extreme difference once we grow up....whenever the Hell that is.
