Anybody know? Cartel.dc appears to have a headlining gig at Iota. Why the name change?

I don't wish to speak for the band, but there's another band (of the emo/screamo variety) who has stolen the name and despite Cartel(.dc) having it trademarked and having the name longer, the other band will not quit using it. So, I assume the name change is to allay confusion.
-
But why give in to the other band? Fico?

Because we don't have the money to put up a legal fight...studio bills, van, merchandise, rehearsal space rent, etc..have been giving our wallets constant hits...we can't spend thousands on attorney fees..so we'll lose this battle..

Fico, hope it's ok with you, but we've been playing your single Fleets on Kool Rock Radio. Great song!

Thanks Fico! Yeah, when you have some demos or other other music that you want to send my way, we'll be more than happy to play them on our station. Maybe we can even get some voice promos for Kool Rock from you too?
Kool Rock Radio isn't live. All shows are recorded and played thoughout the week. So you songs will get a good deal of airtime. At this time, there is a lot of repeating of shows, but that will change as we go along.
Another thing that I like about it, the dj's come from all over the world. Even though they all speak English, they broadcast in their own language and are free to play what they want.
And coming very soon, another regular on the 9:30 board will be doing a show of their own too....but I'll let them tell you about that one.

Hey Fico - I thought you were headlining the show at the Iota this Saturday. At any rate, any idea roughly when you'll take the stage?
-
No idea on set-times..the club usually sets/suggests the times themselves...we have the middle slot, Delegate opens, then us, Monopoli closes the night..

Just another headache for you, but Pollstar is apparently combining tourdates for the two Cartels.

There's a venue called Nancy Raygun in Richmond?? That's awesome!

Is Nancy Raygun a slang for something??

Oh joy!!!..in a way it'd be good if their camp realized it and finally decided it's an issue that needs to be resolved..no so hard to return an e-mail or phone-call...but I guess it's the scream-o way..
So what do you guys think of the other bands on the bill?? i think its gonna be a fantastic night of up and coming bands..
-
I've seen/heard Monopoli before and dig that stuff for the most part. Alfonso is a pretty great singer, I just hope they get a little more uptempo/aggressive down the road but that's just my tastes and what I hear in my head as being cool.
I heard a not so great review of Delegate but as it came from someone that I agree with about nothing musically I'll assume I would like them.
I'm planning on hitting two shows Saturday, yours and the Velvet Lounge. Definitely a lot of good shows going on this weekend.

Delegate is fantastic - they were great at DC9 the other night. I recommend them highly.
As for the Nanci Raygun, great venue.

I was there (the show with Conshafter). There's nothing worth seeing in town.

The Iota gig is currently in the lead for Saturday night. I enjoyed the WSC/Monopoli/Cartel show at BC a few weeks ago. Good times.

I didn't see the first band on the bill (whoever they were). I saw the last three. So, yes, I saw you, and no clue on the Upwelling. I would've said hi but I didn't know which you were.

The Upwelling played before us..they are a trio..they were pretty spot-on that night...their keyboard player is jaw-droppingly good and they have a tight atmospheric sound...

Do you like Conshafter? They're one of the most consistantly entertaining Richmond acts, although that's not saying much. Only Richmond local (other then Sparklehorse) I ever felt the need to buy the CD from.

They're OK, I'd heard some MP3s before, but I was under the impression they were from DC.
Still never answered what you thought of
Conshafter, if you saw their set.

Do I normally listen to the kind of rock they play? No. That being said, they have outstanding energy and people feed of that so more power to them...
