John Benson of Billboard.com reports: After VELVET REVOLVER wraps a spring tour in support of its second album, "Libertad", frontman Scott Weiland will rejoin his former bandmates in STONE TEMPLE PILOTS for a handful of summer reunion shows, guitarist Slash tells Billboard.com.
STP broke up in late 2002; the band's last album was the previous year's "Shangri-La Dee Da". No other details have yet been revealed about STP's plans.
In the meantime, Weiland and his VELVET REVOLVER bandmates are still plugging away in support of "Libertad" with dates that run through early April. There's also the hope that recording for album number three could begin in the spring.
"I don't think anybody knew the second one came out," Slash admits. "We didn't promote it, for one. The first record I remember going out for three weeks on the road and just promoting, with (bassist) Duff (McKagan) and myself going to Europe, Japan and the States.

I've never quite understood why people slammed STP. Or labeled them Pearl Jam copycats. They've never had quite the same style for any two albums running, and certainly sound a whole lot better than the whole nicleback/puddle of mud type crap.
-
better start lining up the heroin dealers in every town on the tour now.
-
the stone temple pilots,
they're elegant bachelors
they're foxy to me, are they foxy to you?

Because when they showed up for the first time, they looked and sounded way too much like Pearl Jam. And at the time, nobody needed more of that sound. It seemed like it had pretty much run its course. They were the derivative sound of something that was already getting old after a few years. They are the poster boys for the horrific nickleback/creed/many others I can't name sound that somehow.....somehow (???) still sells records today, even though it is the derivative of the derivative of the derivative.

not a big STP fan but i saw them at some festival in pittsburgh back in college and they put on a pretty good show.

Scrunge was used to describe that second wave of Grunge bands...

Stone Temple Pilots was no Dig...or Paw...or Nixons...or Green Apple Quick Step...or HAHA
-
I hope this thread doesn't grow to the length of that gayass Smashing Pumpkins thread.

STP was a good rock band with a bunch of fun, catchy songs. Scott is a great frontman and the one time I got to see them they were terrific. I never really got the PJ comparison, beyond "Creep". I'm definitely looking forward to this one.
-
"Scourge" would be more fitting.

Saw them open when they had their debut album, they were solid. Definitely NOT a Pearl Jam sound alike. I got tired of hearing that.

Going on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins,

I don't understand what they mean,
And I could really give a &@#%!

now that would be a 12 page reunion thread
-
It's so cool to hate everything.

If Pavement legitimately reunited (or, heck, even if Malkmus did an announced "all pavement songs" tour), it'd trump any concert/rollcall thread we'd ever had on here.

Wouldn't trump Kraftwerk from three years ago.
-
disagree
-
yeah, a pavement reunited thread would get pretty long quickly. . .i'd only fear that it would turn quickly into an episode of the chris farley show- remember that video where they all dressed up like santa claus and shot down turkeys with a bow and arrow? that was pretty awesome.
-
STP reunion is pretty fucking sweet. I would love to see them again. (Maybe they'll play V-fest?)
-
STP was the Lenny Kravitz of grunge... that is, every song of theirs sounded like someone else. To be fair, though, they did their copycatting pretty well, and I'd much rather hear them than Pearl Jam any day. And that song "Plush" is great. Where are you going when the dogs begin to smell her?
-
A Neutral Milk Hotel thread would top a Pavement thread.
-
I didn't much care for STP until the "Tiny Music" album came out, and there are some damn fine pop/hard rock tunes on that record, when Weiland finally stopped trying to sound like someone else and developed his own distinct vocal style. And last year at the VFest he had the most convincing rock presence of anyone in the entire festival. So while STP deserved to be slammed for some things, they nonetheless had an excellent guitarist, bassist and drummer, as well as a dynamic frontman, which basically made them a decent band. But as for seeing them again ... um, nah.

it's official, STP are back together this summer:
The Range Rocks Again (http://www.pollstar.com/news/viewnews.pl?NewsID=9385)
Straight from the American heartland comes the Rock On The Range festival. The show is back for its second year and it's even bigger this time around.
Presented by Right Arm Entertainment, AEG Live, and The Columbus Crew Stadium, the event has expanded to two days - May 17 and 18 - at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
The line-up includes the reunited Stone Temple Pilots and will mark the group's first performance together in more than seven years.
Other bands on the bill include: Kid Rock, 3 Doors Down, Disturbed, Staind, Papa Roach, Seether, Serj Tankian, Flyleaf, Shinedown, Killswitch Engage, Finger Eleven, Alter Bridge, Filter, Theory of a Dead Man, Sevendust, Default, 10 Years, Bobaflex, Red, Airbourne, Black Tide, Revelation Theory, Ashes Divide, Drive A, and more.

I get that reference despite it being from the 70's. I thought of it, for some reason, when I watched the exploding whale clip on YouTube. Which I watched after watching "Jaws" clips.

No kidding. I've been laughing about it for the last hour and will continue to do so until it's replaced my usual deep, thigh-cutting shame.

i loved that show when i was growing up. . .the other great episode is the softball one.

Nickelback are missing from that godawful bill.

I can't believe you guys managed to make a thread about STP reuniting so damn enjoyable. I will not stop thinking about this all day now. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZnwmvZhDz4)

i've been trying to locate "turkey drop" on youtube, etc but can't find it anywhere, only a RealMedia stream of the audio (which is still funny as hell). lots of "this clip no longer available" - looks like the WKRP lawyers cleaned up the intertubes.
edit: smackie, i luvz u... a shame that clip doesn't have the signature "as god as my witness" closing segment.

getting this back on track: pollstar is reporting that STP will play toronto in july (http://www.pollstar.com/news/viewnews.pl?NewsID=9495), two months after their first gig in columbus. methinks lots more date to be announced - coming soon to a large venue near you? VFest?
