Me too, but Wednesday November 9 in Oakland.

i had two floor seats for the 11/21 show at madison square, and i couldn't go . . . which really made me mad, so i put them on ebay, thinking i'll make a little extra money off of them. i paid $54.00 each, put them on for what i paid, with no reserve or insane "buy it now" price, and i even gave free shipping. some woman from australia paid $710.00 for them. what a joke. i laughed.
-
wow, part of your mortage is now paid for this month!
-
i am going to both nights. and also the afi tommorow to watch "rattle and hum" on the big screen.
how i love that part in the film when the band is overlooking the mississippi river and "heartland" is playing in the background.

how did you get a floor ticket for only $54?
for Thursday, i've been invited for free in my friends box; but when i saw the Vertigo Tour in Anaheim in April, i paid about $160 for a seat...and not in the first few rows, either. and 'twas not scalped.
-
floor is general admission and they were only about $45-50.
-
Even though I am undoubtedly their biggest fan, I decided to skip MCI this time. Last tour, Bono had too many of the politicians there; Leahy, Helms, etc., etc., and he was just over the top.....even for Bono, trying to impress the big wigs a bit too much. Anyway, I hope he reigns it in a bit for you guys.
Enjoy! Saw only one show this tour and it was great....very similar to the last tour set up, but this tour, they are changing up the set list much more.
Lily1, are you serious about Rattle and Hum? I thought I was the only one in the world who dug that movie. ;) I was there for the premier in NYC...way back when.

Bono is Sting on steroids
-
were floor tickets cheaper than seats?
-
Yes. The floor tickets are very reasonable for a band that has been touring for 25 years. Plus, you get the chance to get inside the Oval (last tour it was the heart) and practically be a part of the show.
-
we're headed to the afi tommmorow night to see it! my friends don't have tickets to the show and they are giving a way a pair of tickets to each night's performance.
it starts at 7pm, we're meeting at 6.30pm if you want to join us.

and its all done by lottery to get inside the oval on this tour. when they scan your ticket and wristband you, its how it shows up in the scanner. if you come up lucky, you get another wristband and then get into the "inner circle", as they say. i found this out in philly where i had gen admin tickets and was fighting my way to get inside the oval. so while i didn't get inside the oval, i was happy to hear it was being based on a random lottery system for all those that had general admission tickets.

I'm sure someone might be interested to hear this will be my first U2 show sincew 1983 or 1984 -- whenever they were on the "War" tour.
-
i will be there wednesday. my seats are probably horrendous but i do not care

HAH; I wasn't even alive then!
-
Kosmette and i will be there Thursday... Not the best seats but hopely not horrible either. Interesting about the random entrance into the Oval, of course is it done by pairs? That would bite if one person got in and not the other.
Then again after having a women attempt to crawl over me in order to "touch" Bono, even though I was a good three people deep from tip of the heart on the last tour, I'll let the crazy's have the GA spots.

I hope he's still not doing his stupid Bono trick of phoning the Whitehouse while on stage like he did during both the zoo and shopping cart thingie tour......so not funny or entertaining.
-
HAH!
Okay, this thread is so totally reminding me of this joke that my friend Eve, undoubtably the area's OTHER biggest U2 fan, told me a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if anybody has heard it (or if everybody has heard it), but i'm confident that it's funny enough that you won't mind hearing it again...
Q: What's the difference between God and Bono?
A: God doesn't think he's Bono!
...Yep, gets me every time.
-
How do you prevent Bono from drowning?
Take your foot off his head!
What would you throw to Bono if he was drowning?
The rest of the band!
-
I'll be at the show on Thursday night. I have a general admin floor ticket. I was up in NYC at one of the Madison Square Garden shows last week..i was waaaay up in the rafters behind the stage and it was still pretty fun.
Totally bummed about not being able to go see rattle and hum tonite. I too love that movie, and really would love to see it on the big screen..but i have tickets for Clap Your Hands Go Poo at the Black Cat.

yeah, if you get "scanned in" you can take one person into the oval with you.

Fortunately, when I get back to the US both the U2 and Foo Fighters tours will be over.
-
Will be there both nights. Floor on Weds and seats on Thurs.
Also got to see them last night in Philly. A very cool surprise - they brought out Bruce to play "People Get Ready".

Try walking a mile in my shoes....U2 are the 50cent of the Irish airwaves. No matter what station you have on, every other song is a friggin U2 song, every clothes shop has U2 muzak, every busker torturing some U2 classic. It's a bit much really....apart from Tom Dunne's Pet Sounds in the evenings, now that's quality radio.

I respect Bono and his interest in world development issues, but as a rock band, I have never understood their success, their music is pretty average to me.
Now, you are lucky in Ireland,
12/23/05 The Pogues at the Point

I don't mind U2, in fact, they're a good band who are do excellent live shows, and I don't care for huge production type shows normally. I just get sick of Bono's ugly mug in the media constantly trying to be the world leader....which is fine if that's his thing, but the vast majority of concert goers want to go to a concert, not a political rally, if we wanted that then Billy Bragg would be a superstar.
Basically, he should seperate the two....God from Monday to Friday, and singer of a band at the weekends.

good choice mankie - apparently he's played the new Dave Couse single 25 days in a row or something!
Tom Dunne used to be the lead singer in Something Happens - gawd, I was quite infatuated with that band for about a year in the late 80s

How is Shane doing these days? I saw a documentary about 2 years ago and he seemed in REALLY bad shape , even by his standards
-
Will be there both nights. And in Pittsburgh on Saturday. Speaking of which, I still have an extra ticket if anyone is interested. Section E12. Face value ($60 including TM fees) or best offer...

I think he's dead....they just haven't told him yet. ;)
I read he was getting a new set of teeth, seriously.

I'll be at the Wed show. I have to say I don't entirely agree with the way they are handling general admission entry into the pit. Lottery system..... give me a fuckin break.

I grew up in Florida, so I have no idea about the Bayou days. But they were playing convention halls when I saw them in '83.

i'm there on thursday (floor).

Thursday, then 11/5 in Vegas.

Knowing Bono....you'll have to pay for the lottery ticket as well as your concert ticket.

have they done surprise club dates? i hadn't seen any as of yet on the vertigo tour. is this a new thing? should i immediately hightail it to the 930 club after the shows on wed and thurs for a midnight performance?

Yes, THE Bruce. Though it was hard to hear him sing over the "BROOOOOOOOCE" chants.
I noticed before the show that they have banners hanging in the rafters alongside all the Flyers and 76ers banners for the consecutive number of sellouts by Springsteen and Billy Joel.

Hopefully the political comments -- which, admittedly, work well within any U2 experience -- won't get too overstretched in a D.C. appearance.
Should be great two nights!

I thought about that too but looks like the club is booked both nights.

re: post show gig:
So doubtful, esp since Bono prob. has too many politico-types to hang with.
BTW:
MCI says:
8:45 to 11:00 for the boys, following a 1/2 hour intermission, following Damien Marley's 7:30 start

Bags, you'll LOVE Social D. I am way excited for this show. It's been 4 years since they've been to the Club.

No, no surpise club dates on this tour. Last tour they did Irving Plaza in NY before the album was released. I am in NYC now or I'd love to see Rattle and Hum again on the big screen.
Oh, you be betty, you weren't even alive in '83? I first saw this band on December 13, 1980!!! I (gulp) was your age and had the same concert problem with my parents you are having now. I snuck out to see U2...I just had to. Didn't get caught (phew) and told them years later....they laughed. Not recommending that for you, though. ;) Yikes, coming up on 25 years ago!

Probably like many, I have the 1990 album with "Ball and Chain". But that's it. I'm up for it, so if I get these tickets, I'm in!!

yeah, they are averaging about 2 hr 15 min shows thus far, at least for the 3 i've been to so far.
and i suspect that the lads were on the hill today, and if not, will be on the hill tommorow.

that's so cool! our neighbor in LA was talking to me before my friend and i went off to see them in April, and he was telling us about how he'd seen them back in the day...and that wow, he was starting to feel very old telling us about this; as he remembers talking to all the old rockers WHEN he was a kid about...going to see the Stones, and stuff.

The Ritchie show was fantastic. Back when Bono was just a great frontman for a very very enthusiastic and tight band. He was all over that place, even carrying the Irish flag up to th nosebleed seats at one point. It certainly impressed me at the time. I would never wreck that memory with the current spectacle, although I'm sure they're highly entertaining. He's just a bit to over the top and full of himself at this point IMHO.

He wasn't nearly as bad as I thought he might be. A decent vibe, though all the songs started to all sound alike after a while (some might say the same of U2 though). He did play "Could You Be Loved".
U2 was excellent as always. We lucked out and got into the circle in the front. Spent the whole show 10 feet from the front and center.

Nope. Edge married her and now he won't let other guys oogle at her.

that's a pretty nice set list. however, i'm surprised they didn't play gone or until the end of the world.
okay, i have a crazy question! my friend told me this idea and i'm wondering if it will work. the plan is for me to go to the mci center and get there right as the opening act is finishing up or when u2 first gets on stage. by that time, scalpers will be desperate to get rid of tickets. and pretty much the theory is they'll either be giving them away or selling them on a name your price basis type thing. so is this a bad idea to try? i really want to see u2, but i'm a little nervous at trying this since i've never used a scalper before. any ideas or tips would be useful!

CRAP! Now, second question, will they use the same setlist tonight or what? I Will Follow is probably my favorite U2 song, or at least one of them, and they didn't play it last time I saw them so I was desperately hoping to hear it tonight. Now that I see they played it last night, though, I doub't it'll come tonight. I'd love to hear Bullet The Blue Sky, too. Hell; anything'll be good at this point.

okay, i have a crazy question! my friend told me this idea and i'm wondering if it will work. the plan is for me to go to the mci center and get there right as the opening act is finishing up or when u2 first gets on stage. by that time, scalpers will be desperate to get rid of tickets. and pretty much the theory is they'll either be giving them away or selling them on a name your price basis type thing. so is this a bad idea to try? i really want to see u2, but i'm a little nervous at trying this since i've never used a scalper before. any ideas or tips would be useful!
Your friend sounds BRILLIANT. That sounds like it will work; and I've never even thought of doing that before...but it makes a lot of sense. My best suggestion is don't wear clothes that make you look too wealthy, or else they'll be harder to bargain with. But I would hope that's common-scalper sense.
Let us know if it works!
-
this has been known to happen, although U2 is a pretty hot ticket these days so getting a late bargin is gonna be tough. you might even try the boxoffice as late seats sometimes appear at the last minute

it's worth a shot. careful though, i know someone who got burned buying fake tickets in nyc.

Sorry, you likely won't hear I Will Follow, but you probably will hear Bad, so its a fair trade. Of course, you never know.

Some GAs got released at 8:30 last night and word has it, that's when they'll go today as well.

Speaking as someone who almost got arrested this past weekend for trying to get rid of tickets in front of the venue, my advice is to not use professional scalpers, and try and get a spare ticket from a fan in line. You don't understand how scary the whole prospect of jail is until you see the handcuffs being put on someone. Please save yourself some anxiety and be careful. It's not a joke if they cart you away in a police car. I love live music and especially U2, but they're not worth going to jail for...

You should definitely try it. I went to the MCI for the Concert for Change last year and bought an amazing ticket for less than face. That was a pretty hot ticket as well, but there are ALWAYS tickets available for decent prices at the show.

kosmette is wondering how strict they are at the mci center regarding purses for U2... the ticket clearily states no bags or backpacks, so what are people allowed to carry in?
-
kosmette shouldn't worry about her purse ... my handbag is huge, and they didn't have a problem with it. the guard glanced in it and then asked me if i had any bottled water in there. so, apparently video cameras, alcohol and weapons are fine ... just don't try to get out of paying $20 for a bottle of water!
-
When should one with floor tickets arrive to get a decent spot?
-
I will be outside the MCI Center this evening looking for a ticket, hoping to be one of the lucky ones that snags a just-released ticket from the box office or from someone desperate to get rid of a ticket.
I had luck in 2001 for the "Elevation" tour when I found last-minute tickets on sale from the Ticketmaster location at Tower Records. I am hoping to have similar luck tonight! :)

I snagged a ticket for a friend for The Elevation tour just hanging out having a drink at Gordon Beirsch.
Leave no stone unturned.

Always worth a try. If you actually get a few songs into U2, that'll probably be when the price drops. Just remember, if it's a 2 hr 15 min show, that leaves you lots of show for not lots of cash. I say try it...I'm not telling which show I did that for. But I tried that approach and it worked.

if they play "bad", look for the person on the floor jumping about 12 feet in the air once that little keyboard lick starts. that'll be me.

I'm usually the grown man crying when Bad comes on....

i thought that was only during "running to stand still" like at san jose this year, smackie?

Nope, I was crying to "Bad" nearly 20 years before I was crying to "Running to Stand Still."
I'd have to go back and check, but I'm pretty sure that was the first time I cried to "Running," and I'm pretty sure that had everything to do with my apartment burning down that morning. But you never know with me - I'm a very sensitive guy.

yes, i know, that's the line you use to reel in the jail bait! :D
i was just telling someone smackie's rule for dating jail bait: 1/2 your own age + 7 years

"Half your age plus seven" is a great rule.

they closed with "bad" tonight. it was perfect! and they played "out of control." lily is one very happy flower right now! and friend o' lily is most excited that "walk on by" made an appearance.

Oh, I hate you all!
I was outside the MCI Center earlier trying to get a ticket, but everyone who was selling was WAY above my price range.
After an hour or so, I got tired of the huge, uncontrollable (and sometimes annoying) crowds outside, plus all of the chain smokers, and decided to leave.
Ah well.
Cheers

The good - U2 is a class act and will never put on a terrible show. Enjoyed this one more that the Elevation tour shows. Electric Co./ Out of Control and Love and Peace or Else / Sunday Bloody Sunday.
The bad - The audible murmur from the crowd during the quiet bits. Camera Phones and feeling disconnected from the show due to be in the rafters, in part because of being spoiled by the Ten Club.
The ugly - All the plastic people in lenghty lines wanting to buy $35 t-shirts.
U2 needs to drop ticket prices, play smaller venues and bust wide open the War and earlier part of their catalog.

agreed 1000000000%. i loved all the plastic-surgery-and-expensive-jean clad women all over the place. i really get a kick out of that.
it was good, though! i thought the politicing was a bit excessive...not that i didn't agree with everything he was saying; but that 20 minute speech or whatever in the middle of the song was just a bit much.
otherwise a great show. i cried when they took the stage. hot damn.

I love their latest album "How To Build An Atomic Bomb". Nice research.

Have to say that the show didn't measure up to Wednesday for me. Probably because I was in seats instead of on the floor, but it just seemed like there wasn't as much energy in the room.
A big giant  F-YOU  goes out to the group in section 227 who couldn't shut their holes all night. Sorry the show sucked so much for you...but I am glad Bono got your $175.

no it's the sign of a lazy copy editor.. and the review was spot on Mr. du Lac has a fondness for the band, but not for the trite pop singles the band became famous for. Personally, U2 was better when they kept the politics in the lyrics and not inserted into the between song blather. Didn't think the audience singing was an issue either, it's what people at U2 concert want to do. Overall, the show felt less choreographed a bit more spontaneous than the Elevation Tour
-
Well I for one had a great time at the show last night. I had GA tix and was situated about 5 feet off to the side of the ellipse. As a U2 geek for over half my life, i'm come to accept the fact that U2 is not going to come out serve me a guiness, ask me personally how my day was, and start rocking all the songs from October and Achtung Baby that i'd love to hear live...they'll play their hits, and toss in a few gems for the geeks...because that's why the people are paying $100 to see them. I loved hearing Miss Sarejevo again, and Who's Going to Ride Your Wild Horses was a very pleasant surprise...i've also enjoyed hearing Electric Co live on this tour as well (and i'm glad we got Bad over I Will Follow)
Anyways, i'm not dissapointed at all...i am however freakin tired and sore with some ringing in my ears.
-
nicely stated... however larry did swing by the second to last row in the "cheap" seats last night to hand out a few cold ones ;)
-
cool show.
i thought it was funny when larry mullen (poor guy, he seems to be aging the worst out of the 4) finished playing his part at the end of "Bad" and he pulled out his ear monitors and just kept his hands sustained above his shoulders...the roadie was there literally within a second to grab them.
ahh, to be a pampered mega-millionaire rock star.
-
He (Larry) is suffering from severe carpal tunnel. They considered cancelling a few shows, but he decided to play through with it. You can't really see it (there's a picture somewhere on the 'Net), but he's wearing a pretty significant flesh colored wrapping/bandage thing on his forearm.
So glad you guys got Bad and Out of Control. Bad is def my favorite live song of theirs.

interesting, how so? i felt the entire opposite when i compare this tour to elevation.
