the pietasters are playing that night. Not my cuppa tea, but a lot of people enjoy them
failing that you could see bands I have never heard of here:
http://www.velvetloungedc.com/ (http://www.velvetloungedc.com/)
in a great place which is about as big as my living room (not very)
-
www.pheer.com (http://www.pheer.com) has a wider range (of area and of bands) of shows in the dc/md/va area... sometimes you'll have to sift through the crap but there are tons of shows posted up there.

Plus, the Friday show at Velvet is a HIPS benefit. I think it will be a cool night overall. Good choice. Plus, we had that "the velvet lounge is closed" scare this past weekend, so it's a way to celebrate that the club is still open!
-
Dwight Yoakam puts on a good show. $35 is a bot steep though.
-
a bunch of hardcore bands are playing at the ruitan in sterling. the show is posted somewere on trustkill.com
-
Emma Gibbs Band - Iota - 7/25
definitely worth it.

There's a bunch of bands over at Between Friends (1115 U Street, NW DC) at 11th and U St.
It's for the BOUND Summer Masquerade Ball (http://www.entrenousqueen.com/SMB.html)
More Machine Than Man (http://www.mmtm.net) from Boston (great multimedia live show!)
Carfax Abbey (http://www.carfaxabbey.com) from Philly
Fixer (http://www.fixermusic.com) from NYC (they sound like a mix between Guns and Roses meets Alice in Chains)
There's like 4 more bands that are playing on the "side stage" for this event across the street at U-Turn.
Hope that helps!

I haven't been to a Pietasters show in a couple of years, but their shows used to be a good time
-
Saw them in Ocean City back in the mid '90s and they put on a very good show. I'm just not into Ska but if you like that kind of stuff, you should very much enjoy their show.
-
The Pietasters seem like a good idea for a show on friday. Even if you're not the biggest fan (just make sure you don't Loathe it) of ska, they promise to put on a fun and entertaining show. I saw them at 9:30 with the Slackers last winter and we all ended up on stage dancing around. And I can't even dance. It was so fun.

I second that. Plus the Shakedowns are fun too.

Dude, Check out the Blue Nile. Great bands and one called Down Holly. Check it out! Then come back for Die Trying on Sat...

I'll be at the Pietasters/Shakedowns show at Black Cat. Those of two of DC's best bands these days. Pietasters will be playing only songs from their first 5 years, should be a soul-ska blast. Anybody got anyword on DJ Kool?

Christ Markie, even I know that....and where it is. Odd thing is, I never, ever see anyone going in or out of the place.
