Got to see Troy last night. Damn good movie actually. Its funny how even though you know how its going to end, you still route for something else to happen.
Maybe not really the best role for Pitt, but the fighting was excellent. Better than most historical-esque movies.
-
and that was my 1892nd post for member number 1892. neat, eh?
-
Meh.
Why is it that summer movies are, for the most part, a giant crap-a-thon. It's not like folks with discerning taste only go to the movies in winter... bleh. Enough with the overdone, effects-only, look how neato it is when we blow this up, plastic characters with one or two bad love scenes thrown in, films.
Let's just say, if it has an effects budget, I'm likely to not like it.
Anyone wanna see Supersize Me? I can't wait...

yeah...we're seeing it next weekend when we're back in town...

Man, Brad Pitt is just gross. So is his wife.
I am looking forward to Supersize Me. Perhaps it will give me added motivation to stick to the diet I'm on.
-
Brad Pitt's best role was in True Romance, I think it was, when he was the stoner guy and "Outshined" was playing...it was all downhill from there.

I feel the same way. I think it may just be my mild fascination with Greek mythology and what not.

It's showing at E Street Theatres (http://www.landmarktheatres.com/Market/WashingtonDC/WashingtonDC_Frameset.htm).
-
Also showing in Georgetown, Shirlington, and I think Bethesda.

I have a theory on that....wanna hear it? Okay, well I'm going to tell you anyway!
I think the reason there's a lot of mega-budget, over-produced with little substance other than shit blowing up and digitalized special effects films are released in summer is so the attendance can be somewhat artificially inflated.
When it's hot as hell outside a lot of people go to the movies just so they can sit in a/c for a couple of hours. Whereas in winter, movie-goers really want to see the movie because they have to freeze their balls/tits off to get there in the first place.
Make sense?
-
And kids are out of school, so they can go see these movies again and again and again because they're bored and hanging out at malls.

also, the deranged redneck in kalifornia and the gypsy in snatch. seems like his best stuff comes when you understand him the least.

As an Orlando Bloom fan, I am looking forward to Troy. I also want to see Super Size Me.
-
Don't mean to be disagreeable, but I also find Orlando Bloom rather pukey.
One actor I love to watch: Mark Ruffalo.

or, don't they?
it's cause all the truly cool people with discriminating tastes do outdoorsy stuff in the summer

>>> I'm hitting "Super Size" me this afternoon at Cinema Arts here in Fairfax.....if my schedule allows...

any movie which is considered oscar "worthy" is scheduled for a december release because they want it be fresh in the minds of the voters. plus, most major stars want their movies to come out in december in order to feed their egos. the is some indication that there is a shift in opinion regarding the release of only oscar worthy films in december. instead scheduling them through out the year to prevent overload. however, "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" came out and despite heaps of critical praise tanked commercially. which probably means that it's back to old logic.
ever notice all the horror genre pictures that come out at the beginning of the year? this is because it's the only time of the year when they can schedule. i.e. not up against oscar or summer movies.
it appears that is some attempt to bring together special effects with a good story. "Master and Commander", "Pirates of the Caribean", LOTR of course... Any movie with Vin Diesel is going to blow.
there will be light saber effect of the non-digital kind in "Young Adam"

He wasn't bad in "Fight Club". Although Ed Norton stole the show.
-
i was half kidding. 12 monkey was decent too
-
Brad Pitt was amazing in Snatch.....what was the one about deadly sins or whatever? He was good in that one too.
-
Seven - I remember because it was my wife and my first date together
Great date movie! We were clinging to each other about 10 minutes in
-
vin diesels new movie looks good, i think it is his character from pitch black.

his performance at the end was horrendous, though
and yes, the vin movies is the same character from pitchblack

He's back!...and boy is he pissed off! Vin Diesel is back as Jesus in CHRIST 2: The Resurrection. Coming soon.

This movie (because of the subject matter + major stars, big director, etc) reminds me of Gladiator which was a summer popcorn movie that ended up winning best picture. I only hope it's near as good.

Reminds me of one of my all-time favorites... UHF:
Ghandi II.
He's back, and it's no more mister passive resistance.
(Ghandi drives sportscar up to restaurant. Jumps out with two buxom playgirls and walks in, uzi in hand)
"Give me a steak, medium rare."

Never saw it....the thought of two pretty boys, Ed Norton Jr. and Brad Pitt, trying to look all bad-ass and tough cracked me up. That should've been cast with Jean Reno and Vinnie Jones.
-
fight club was excellent
speaking of blockbusters which actor is filling John Peels (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3705115.stm) shoes?

Also similar to Arnold Schwatrzenegger's Hamlet.
-
William Shatner's Romeo and Juliet. I. Love. YOu.
-
Here's a high-concept idea:
Van Helsing is back and Vin Diesel's got him in VIN HELSING 2 ! Coming soon.
-
and another... Directors who have hit special laden effects movie should have to make a low budget film to order to make another one.
saw a bit of "the day after tomorrow" last night and it looks a huge pile of steamin' dog poo... the only reason it was released is because it's "from the director of independence day". it's basically fight ing the weather instead of aliens. so instead of aliens laying waste to nyc, it gets hits by a huge tidal wave and then a snowstorm. boring
-
great! maybe if we're lucky we can have another one-movie-theme summer. Remember the summers of...
Two movies about comets hitting the earth?
Three movies about ebola outbreaks?
Three movies about aliens taking over?
Ah, thank god for the single-track minds of movie execs!
-
Sorry, but TROY was a pile of crap. I caught the midnight show at RIO and I wish I stayed home and went to bed.
