Does anyone else find it ironic that emo bands play a charity gig for suicide prevention?

Wow, just when you think you're doing pretty well and are fairly knowledgeable.  I don't know one of those bands.

"Poison the Well, Dilligner Escape Plan, Further Seems Forever and others are among the acts who grace the bill of the fourth-annual Take Action Tour, which kicks off in September.

Other artists confirmed for the outing include Avenged Sevenfold, Shadows Fall, Death by Stereo, Eighteen Visions, Shai Hulud, This Day Forward, Since by Man and Black Cross. More acts will be added, according to organizers."

Dillinger is like super crazy awesome jazz metal... not typical if you have a keen ear for listening to well crafted music. Further Seems Forever used to be fronted by Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional, and were much better sounding then. However, they're still popular and have a lot of 'emo' (and all those kinds of words) fans. Poison the Well are trying too hard to be Refused, and their older material is much better than their first major label debut. Miami hardcore goodtimes.

You have to reach your target audience somehow!

I find the term emo the most useless to come along when describing a band's sound.  So far it seems to tell me almost nothing about what the band will sound like.  And that's what I'm hooked by.

If I was emo, I'd kill myself.

Emo is when this listener says "Fuck you, you suck!"

Speaking of light bulbs, I just blew out one a minute ago.

It will only take one Jag to replace it.   ;)

Yes, Dillinger is incredible...spastic free jazz/grindcore.  I highly recommend to both Mank and Rhett.

As if you needed more evidence that we're soulmates.

i know, right? it's perfect.

 andy --
i gave lackluster reviews of the bands in some post above, but i'll do it again.

Poison the Well - from Miami, their last album "Tear from the Red" was utterly fabulous, and since then they have been signed to a major label and went to Sweden to record the new record and try to emulate Refused. Although it's not the best, their new album "You come before You" is still good. Heavy music (not nu-metal though) with the occasional and appropriate melody laid overtop. Heartfelt and good.

Further Seems Forever - the old lineup with Chris Carrabba made one great album. Now Chris is out and a new guy is in. Not the same, but still good regardless. I hate the word "emo" because that doesn't help in describing their music, but that's what their fans are like. Great guitar with honest, bordering the line on cliche,  but not quite, lyrics. Great live show.

I know nothing about the other two except that I think they're both well known in the hardcore community and well-liked. But the three headliners are all fabulous.

Eighteen Visions are the epitome of glam rock gone metalcore (but not as good as that may sound). They're all bi-curious hairdressers from Orange County California. They used to be decent fairly innovative crusty metalcore with good breakdowns, now their songs are just too long and overproduced. They're not good live, but their singer always strips down and does the Rolling Stones/Aerosmith scarf thing while he screams about killing his lover. I've seen em a couple times, even bought their shitty new album, I'd pass on them. But Dillinger Escape Plan is awesome, saw them once at 9:30 club, once at 4H Barn in Syracuse. I was hoping the DC date could get Shai Hulud, This Day Forward, and Black Cross instead of 18V, PTW, and FSF.

i can't figure out what further seems forever is doing on this bill.  seems an odd match to me.  there will be more people giving karate expositions in the pit than crying in their scarves that night.

i agree, josh. maybe it's because they're on tooth and nail(a label with some good hardcore-ish bands) and also feel the need to reach out to those suicide-contemplating, bleak-visioned youngsters who also have a penchant for harder music. they're just random like that.

Plea For Peace/Take Action tour always mixes it up some. Like in 2001 when it came to Nation, the lineup was Alkaline Trio, Hot Water Music, pre-wuss Cave In, Mike Park (acouostic), and Thrice. Last year was pretty eclectic with an emo band (Thursday), a mod punk band (noise conspiracy), a ska punk band (Common Rider) and a Nofx rip-off(Lawerence Arms). Having further seems forever on the bill will bring a well-needed swarm of naive emo girls. Can't wait.

If thar so eclectic, why not some blues or bluegrass or maybe some smooth jazz?
