When you add to it that there's going to be a biography published to coincide with the reunion tour and best of album, it's simply unfathomable.

hmmm... the thing is most Dexy's stuff was ignored in the States, and the band is only defined by the "hit" single. the band was actually a talented group of musicians with bad stylists.

Most unnecessary "best of"? Kula Shaker.

That wins, although Silverchair may be a close second. Or Fugees, who also had 2 albums.

I know I'll have the piss taken out of me for this comment but what's new?
Pre-Come on Eileen Dexy's is good stuff. Probably never got heard over hear though other than the college scene.
It seems that some good UK bands only seem to get their weakest songs aired stateside....James and Laid and Dexy's and Eileen for example.

watching those one hit wonder countdown shows are always amusing... the US definition of a one hit wonder is when an act only cracks the US top 40 once. so you get acts like Dexy's, Madness, James, etc who had numerous hits singles in the UK but get tagged with the onerous label of being "one hit wonders" something should be reserved for the likes of Toni Basil, Nena, Belle Stars, etc...

You only have to sell 100 copies of single to make the top ten in the UK. How else do you explain Gareth Gates?
-
My store got in a copy of the Avril Lavigne Tribute album. That's unnecessary for you.

That would explain why Bruce Springboard never makes the top 10. :D

How many dexys albums are there, and only one best of.....
How many stone roses albums and how many best of's?
Is it right for a band to have more best of's than actual albums?

They release tribute albums for everything these days... The electro tribute for the White Stripes was a primary example of why bother. I guess they figure if they can sell a couple thousand copies to the rapid fans they can make money. me thinks the cutout bins are going to be stuff with them shortly.

Obviously you were too busy growing mold in test tubes to bother with marketing classes. :p

how do you think all those record execs justify their huge salaries, bonuses, and expense accounts... if it's not for the back catalog being reissued, repackaged most record companies wont be making money. i'll bet that remastered and bonus tracks gives most exec a huge hard on.

I think that's more accurate.

I think Stone Roses have twice as many comps as actual albums. I'm pretty sure there were more Sublime albums released after the guy died. Same for Joy Division, but they always had loads of non-album tracks, and early demo stuff.

Guess that means none of the folks who saw him at these 3 recent sold out shows buy any of his music. ;)
