Audioslave
Incubus
Queens of the Stoneage
Jurassic5
Janes Addiction
so far, it doesn't thrill me at all....YAWN.
-
I'd have to agree......Big time YAWNNNNNN!!!!
-
audioslave-biggest waste of $12 in my entire life-they blow. . . real hard
incubus-eh, boring, middle of the road rock-i could take it or leave it. . .actually i'll leave it
queens of the stone age-one mainstream band i actually like-good live show
jurassic 5-i like em!
janes addiction-again, never was really into janes that much so i could take it or leave it
in closing, i'll be waiting for the full lineup before i decide whether i will pay to see the show.
-
yaaaaaaawn except for J5 and queens of the stone age. but like i'm really going to spend a crapload of money on all the other bands just to see two in a huge venue when you're never close enough to the stage anyway? no thanks
-
Rumor has it Interpol may also be playing. I think we should see the full line-up before making any rash judgements, but I tend to agree, the line-up is, dare I say, too mainstream. Something we wouldn't have said in 1991.
-
Interpol? OMG would that be a career ending mistake. That would rank right up there with something like.... sandwiched between sum 41 and kelly osbourne at HFS. Hopefully they steer clear. Stay with clubs until radiohead needs an opener.

Incubus used to be great, until Make Yourself came out, and then they sucked, even though it sounded just like, SCIENCE. See, the Flaming Lips can have pink bunnies onstage and that is cool, but please, no power chord music cause that is bad. an god forbid, dont sell a million albums!!!
you people are jaded worse than my record store coworkers!!!
but either way i am going to Coachella this year finally.

quote:
Originally posted by Latvia:
How would that be a career-ending mistake?

Actually it is a crowd that would not be into them, and their's is not a show with the same mosh energy. I guess you didn't see Pavement play Lollapalooza around here. They had mud and sod flung at them so much, they just walked off stage. I could very well see a similar thing happen with Interpol. So with a crowd whose majority doesn't like you you will not be giving your all and will put on a bad show thereby not swaying the 5% who might actually like you. You get bitter and break up. Maybe on the second stage they could be great, like Lambchop was.

I thought Lollapukeloosa was about musical diversity...all I see here is hard rock and a token negro band thrown in...
-
Was it a career ending mistake when Coldplay played at HFSestival? They were by far the worst band there, yet everyone in this forum seems to bow down to them. (Ok mostly all of you)

$120 for two days? What a ripoff. Bumbershoot in Seattle is like $20 a day, Citystages in Birmingham is $30 for three days, and the Austin City Limits Fest was $35 for two days.

quote:
Originally posted by sonickteam2:
yeah, no diversity in that "as of now" lineup. its too bad but people wont pay money for bands they dont really know, but the bands they know, suck. haha.
anyway, Coachella......heres who they have "as of now" announced....
The Hives
Beastie Boys
Chemical Brothers
Oasis
Foo Fighters
Bjork
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Polyphonic Spree
Soundtrack of our Live
Z-Trip
Ben Kweller
Deep Dish (!!)
and thats like 1/10 of it....for $120 for two days....let this give us all faith that a large festival CAN happen. even if its in cali.

I think there's a difference here. A band can still maintain their integrity, perhaps making them less popular, and make a decent living. Being very popular means being rich, and I don't think that's every bands or every persons goal in life. I don't see eye to eye with those that make that their primary goal.

quote:
Originally posted by Fuelie:
I hope you were being sarcastic or something because, if not, that was a completely retarded thing to say. being popular=making money and dont you think that what musicians want? Actually, Bumbershoot had quite a bit more than 55 bands (500 perfomers by their count). You can view the entire 4 day list here:
http://www.bumbershoot.org/allartists.html
And Austin had 69 act in two days. Schedule here:
http://www.aclfest.com/schedule.html

quote:
Originally posted by sonickteam2:

ok, so its not the BEST deal ever, but did Bumbershoot/Austin City have 55 bands, and a film festival (i dont know, i am actually asking).....if i check out last years lineup, i could have seen 20 bands that i would really enjoy, for $120? not bad, i think.
and the dates are April 26-27 for Coachella

[This message has been edited by Henry Dark (edited 02-10-2003).]

Well, i dont know too many of the Bumbershoot artist (maybe 1/2, 5 of which i would actually care to see) and the Austin City thing looks to be a completely different kind of show altogether, i dont think there is even a comparison.
Thanks for the info tho, very interesting

-
Can't be denied that Coachella has an impressively long list of popular mainstream acts. The fact that they have so many popular acts no doubt contributes to the hefty ticket price.

quote:
Originally posted by sonickteam2:
Well, i dont know too many of the Bumbershoot artist (maybe 1/2, 5 of which i would actually care to see) and the Austin City thing looks to be a completely different kind of show altogether, i dont think there is even a comparison.
Thanks for the info tho, very interesting

at least it doesnt have anything called a "Jam Stage" YIKES!
-
If you are referring to the jam stage at the Austin City Limits Fest, I'll take those artists over the loud, aggressive hard rock bands on the Lolaploosa list. I'm not that familiar with the ones on the Austin jam stage list, but Luna was on the jam stage, and they'ere a pretty damn good little band. Also, the list of alt-country performers on the Austin list was quite impressive.

quote:
Originally posted by sonickteam2:
at least it doesnt have anything called a "Jam Stage" YIKES!

Excellent point. Rock and HipHop acts, and DJs (especially DJs) get paid MUCH more than jazz, altcountry and bluegrass musicians. Making the cost of the concerts way way high.
take the Beastie Boys and Oasis out of Coachella and the price would probably drop $20 right there!!!
Therefore we have 2 completely different concerts at 2 completely different prices!!
maybe the Radiohead/Coachella rumor will turn true and i'll have a reason to pay $120!!!

quote:
Originally posted by Henry Dark:
If you are referring to the jam stage at the Austin City Limits Fest, I'll take those artists over the loud, aggressive hard rock bands on the Lolaploosa list. How about just calling this tour "Hooray For Grunge" or "Early 90's Snoozefest 2003".....

Tickets are no problem......the problem is a place to crash......we stayed at the marriot last year......gotta jump on the phone as soon as the lineup is announced......

My friends and I were thinking of camping out there last year, maybe we'll do that this year as we didn't end up going last year.

and that only like 25-30 of them. with 4 stages and 2 days, thats most likely only HALF of the list. since it wasnt really like the HFStival and all the same bands both days.
i have my plane ticket AND hotel already. We got a Motel 6, 7 miles away from the venue for $60 a night!

-
and on certain bands websites, and label sites they have themselves listed at Coachella as well
Chemical Brothers, Z-trip, Bjork , Foo Fighters, Pink and Oasis are among those.
