but QOTSA are warming up... would have been worth checking out if it wasn't at nissan.

I saw Red Hot Chili Peppers with Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam way back when. I won tickets, and couldn't even find any friends who wanted to go to the show. I heard about two Pearl Jam songs, the whole SP set, and lasted through a half dozen RHCP songs. Based on what I heard, I think I would find Pearl Jam the most tolerable of the three.

I was at the infamous rape show at GMU back in the day (way back -- Hillel was still in the band).
-
Do tell GGW. I'm not aware of this story.

Didnt Anthony decide to umm..excuse me ladies... "dickslap" a female concert goer or something??

I used to know the girl that was on the unfortunate recieving end of that! We both lived in Richmond about 10 years ago. She was kinda wacky....but i'm pretty sure that was a pre-existing condition. Man it's been so long I can't even remember her name.

Once upon a time, the Red Hot Chili Peppers (a then-unknown young band of hooligans from LA) played a show for Mason Day at GMU. They were on a little stage outside the library. There was a little hospitality trailer for the bands. The girl from the GMU promotion office went in to the trailer to see the band before they went on. From what I heard, Anthony Keidis grabbed her arm and said "Are you the one that's going to suck all our d!cks?"
Apparently she was not there for that purpose, as she pressed charges for sexual assault. Keidis was convicted in Fairfax County Court of some lesser offense and just paid a fine.

The girl was a student Mason and worked on the events committee. If my memory is correct she was in charge of getting the peppers from the airport to the hotel and to the venue etc.
Yeah I think they pretty much held her down and place some sockless appendages in her face. At least that's what I remember hearing.

I ran into her at a party once (a couple of years after the incident) and yeah, she was "wacky." She was drunk and was crying because it was the anniversary of her boyfriend's suicide (or maybe overdose?).

Seeing as he is immensely talented  I bet the skanky ho set him up.
By the way, were are all the Chili Peppers fans? The seem to sell CD's and tickets to shows but I've yet to meet anyone who likes them.

Are you sure she wasn't crying because you injured her when you ran into her?

She got a bunch of $$ out of the band, but she was never able tell how much due to the confidentiality clause of the settlement.
She definately had more money than me though...at the time I was washing dishes for $5/hr. It was under the table though and there were free drinks. Hmmmm, maybe this IT career ain't so great after all.

It's possible that she -- like countless other women -- broke into a fit of tears once she realized that she would never have me.

I dug some of the older stuff, but nothing they have done in 13 years has interested me really. My fandom faded as I got older and they started releasing poppy crap.

Yeah i seem to remember something about her bf committing suicide. Can't remember how though. She did always seem to have plenty of, um, prescription medication which she was willing to share on occasion. Never with me though.
To be 21 again..

Indeed.

their first record was a hoot... a fun listen... saw them at least once in a club and then on lollapoolza in their earlish days. they are a decent singles band with loads of filler on their records. i really wish i could have heard them do "owner of lonely boner"...

You know one now. And I agree that their earlier stuff was far better than their most recent stuff. I haven't seen them live in years though and have no intention of doing it now.

goddamn it. I agree totally. Anywhere but Nissan. It's not worth the four hours travel time. I'm never gonna see QOTSA I think. :(

There may still be hope...after QOTSA's stint with RHCP, they're supposedly doing a few club shows on the West Coast. But there have also been reports saying they're going back into the studio in October.
Also Nick's band, Mondo Generator, have been scheduling random shows when Lollapalooza rolls into a town. I'm hoping there's one next week when the tour comes to this area.
My recommendation: Check thefade.net (http://www.thefade.net)
once in a while for updates. It's an excellent QOTSA fan site that gets updated much more frequently than the band's official page.
