At least according to Pollstar. The 9:30 club won nightclub of the year in their annual awards galla. I wonder who accepted the award.
-
A better question might be who was the presenter? I wonder if it was the awesome Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon? With this lame ass group of presenters, this doesn't look like much of a credible award.<P>Assisted by members of the Laker Girls, the awards were handed out by a bevy of celebrity presenters including Firesign Theatre funnyman Peter Bergman; the Chambers Brothers; an always colorful George Clinton; REO Speedwagon's Kevin Cronin; The Motels' Martha Davis; Grand Funk Railroad's Mark Farner; the members of Gaelic Storm; Sophie B. Hawkins; disco diva Thelma Houston, who serenaded the audience; John McEuen and Bob Carpenter from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; Sam Moore; a George Bush-bashing Johnnette Napolitano; Berlin's Terri Nunn; the members of Oleander; Ambrosia singer David Pack; Alan Parsons; Paul Revere; Father Guido Sarducci; a person who we think was Michelle Shocked wearing a burqa made from an American flag; Ike Turner; the Von Trapp Children; and "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" actor Tom Lenk.
-
Say what you will about the awards, it really kicks ass that we got that award. The whole Pollstar thing is all about industry recognition and that is cool. We had a crusher of a year in 2002 and to get the props from our peers actually means something to us. Ike Turner presented.
-
Its alright Eddie, we all knew it was the best club. I am sure you didnt need the award to find that out.<P>Did Seth recieve?
-
The whole team (Donna, Seth and Rich) received the award.
-
I did my part! Woo-Hoo! Pollstar has been the big boys for at least 15 years for the industry, probably a lot longer.
-
of course it is the best club...hands down.....the only clubs that come close, and it is a DISTANT second and third place.....is Tipitina's in NOLA, and The Fillmore in SF.....but , the 930 blows them away , really..
-
The 9:30 doesn't hold a candle to Camelot!
-
I am sure they just overlooked THUNDERDOME in Baltimore.
-
no no, I'm almost certain they left out<P>ZIG'S BAR AND GRILL in Alexandria VA.<P>That place is an effen joke of a venue. Never ever ever go there to see a band. <P>EVER. <P>Congrats 9:30 crew and staff!
-
That's not fair, even places like Galaxy Hut in Arlington have their place on the venue food chain. While I've never been to Zigs, I imagine you will only find the local bands who just want to play, and could care less if the venue has a capacity of 48. Power to them.

Not to get all technical, but they're not "whores," they are "strippers."<P> <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Arial, Veranda">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by markie:<BR><B> isnt it a restaurant and nightclub?<P>Someone I know worked just down from there. I did too. It really looks like one. Then one day I actually looked at the door. What's up with that place?<P> <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Arial, Veranda">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Dandy01:<BR><B>that reminds me, one of my friends thought Royal Palace was a Chinese restaurant for the longest time, har har. </B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE><P>

I'm not sure how a thread about the 930 Club winning an award degenerated into a discussion about the difference between whores and strippers, but I like it.

I thought they were called dancers now....<P><BR> <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Arial, Veranda">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by markie:<BR><B> have you seen them? If you had you would guess that they were whores not strippers.</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE><P>

Isn't this the third year in a row that 9:30 has won this award?<P>What's the criteria? Is it just based on tickets sold?<P>
-
Props to the three guys who seem to live there Ed, Chad and Josh.

Not to get all technical again, but I think the 9:30 is more of a <I>venue</I> than a club. You go, you see the band, you leave.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Arial, Veranda">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by jadetree:<BR><B> then why do they call them club tours?</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE><P> i always figured that a club WAS a venue. -
a club may or may not be a venue, and a venue may or may not be a club. <P>9:30 is called a nightclub venue because of its size. other types of venues are theaters, arenas, and stadia.<P>does anyone else ever start to question words when they type them a lot? venue is a weird word.
-
Yes but usually it is that words that come in different fonts than what you are used to look really weird. That is why I keep a dictionary here at the computer. Lowercase "i"s in words are the worst, look at all those extra lines that you normally don't get.
