She then got the Rod Stewart singing American classics cd for xmas that was just awful. I gave her Wilco (YHF) as well, and she seemed to like it.

The Grammy's sucked this year, mainly because their music was horrible except for a few acts, and partly because it was pretty much Norah walking up and accepting her awards.

I saw Norah for free at the Kennedy Center a month before her big record came out, and later at the 9:30 when it was starting to take off. Age-wise, both audiences were a refreshing mix on 20, 30, 40, and gasp, 50somethings. A good mix of races, and couples of varying sexual orientations. Granted, someone in my party (not me) complained that the audience was full of yuppies, but hey this is DC. I also disagreed with the aforementioned article in that it was claiming that Bruce Springsteen's core audience was younger than Norah Jones. Give me a break! The album was actually re-recorded with a different producer. I wonder if he smoothed the edges out too much in places. After all, this is the same guy who produced Phil Collins' wonderful "Against All Odds". I'd like to see her take a shot at country. She is a big Willie Nelson fan. One fears that the next album may end up just trying to be a carbon copy of this one.

Unfortunately, she tried to go in a more rock oriented approach on her follow up, and it blew. I still think she'll makae strong comeback. As for the other artist on the list, they simply lacked talent. I think Norah has more talent than them, and will be on the cusp in the resurgance of roots music for several albums to come.

Mariah is dead and gone, getting dropped by EMI sealed her fate. Norah Jones sold 5 million albums in the US. If the next sells 1.25 million I doubt she will be heading back to a trailer park.
