what kind of washed up old has been would go and see this washed up old has been?
-
Apparently a bunch of old has beens!! The damn show is SOLD OUT!!......amazing...
-
Well since Erasure sold out before i could get tix i have to settle for this one.....beats sitting home and watching American Idol.
-
I talked to a friend in Orlando last night and he saw her I think this past weekend in a free show. He said about 5,000 plus in attendance......damn!
-
Believe it or not, her current club tour is sold out everywhere.
-
I believe it.
-
Say what you like about "this washed up old has been", Cyndi Lauper has one hell of a voice...multi-octave range, and she knows how to use it. Sound check sounded good, she's got a talented band with her. We expected the show to sell out when we booked it.
So what exactly do you have against her Markie?

In my opinion, if somebody finds enjoyment in watching/hearing her perform, then good for them. Who am I to judge.
On the other hand, the 80's are over...let it go...let it go...

I have the same reaction to the new Johnny Marr album.

quote:
Originally posted by chills:

On the other hand, the 80's are over...let it go...let it go...

Plus Johnnies side projects have kept him contemporary, just about, dontcha think?

Since when is having a recent hit the benchmark for artistic ability? Seems to me I've seen plenty of discussions on this very forum arguing the very opposite. Anyway, I'm with Chills, why be judgemental? And why be insulting?

When was Lloyd Cole EVER popular in the mainstream? I think his work has been consistently good throughout his career. Though the one time I saw him live, he was pretty boring.

quote:
Originally posted by markie:

I dont know about the US.....
But in the UK there were a triumverate of hipster records every student worthy of the name owned:
The Smiths, The Smiths
Prefab Sprout, Faron young
Llloyd Cole, Rattlesnakes
I think that album shifted millions. He had a kid in the early 90's and then released the bad album with morning has broken on it.
I saw him 10 years ago and he was great then. But then he has fantastic songs.
-
I never even heard of Lloyd Cole until his second album, Easy Pieces.
In the U.K., Easy Pieces was a Top Ten hit. But although the album saw something like a proper release in the U.S. and the Commotions toured extensively, no American breakthrough materialized.
-
I saw Lloyd Cole many years ago and found him a rather drab entertainer, although he does write some very good songs.
-
Easy pices was never a favourite of mine. Rattlesnakes is much better and I even prefer Mainstream.
Have you never heard rattlesnakes?
-

I think she is also in a new Dr. Pepper commercial. The EP reached number 27 on Billboards Heatseekers chart, which is a lot better than some of her musical peers from 84' are doing right now.
-
Oooh...the Heatseeker chart, now there's a true measure of album sales...
Rhett Miller's album debuted at #1 on the Heatseeker chart. Sounds impressive until you realize that that translated to #126 on the overall chart.
I'm surprised Ms. Lauper was even on the Heatseeker chart. I thought that chart was only for artists who had never cracked the top 100 in their career.

quote:
Originally posted by Joymonster:
The show sold out because she toured with Cher last year and was profiled on one of those "Behind The Music" specials a few months ago. markie i went to the show because i have been a fan of cyndis from 83 and have all her records, so i went and was bored to tears, easily the worse event i have been to and i include the ideal home show in my list of events, bad sound, she stoped songs if they didnt sound right and told a hundred of the most boring stories ever, there was a large gay following and a most people were 30+ some in there 40s, if you can take the pain of having a dick shoved up your arse you can take the pain of a cyndi lauper concert, i couldnt, i left when she started the 100 monkeys story,i should never have gone.
-
thanks for the review Bunle Bud.
Your experience bares comparison to soft cell. Well at least Soft Cell didnt have the annoying stories.
Perhaps next time you will trust me?
Why not come for a beer on Saturday?
-
I remember Bungle Bud saying he didn't want to meet Markie for a beer because that would be "too gay" to come into the city to meet another guy for a beer. Now BB comes into the city and hags our with hundreds of gay men at a club. Bungle, you've come a long way.
-
i was right next to 10 fags, wearing a pair of levi jeans because my arse looks good in them, i like to live on the edge. markie i will go for a drink with you, but dont think that you can lure me back to your place for some butt games, it will take 3 or 4 pints for that to happen.
-

quote:
Originally posted by bungle bud:
it will take 3 or 4 pints for that to happen.

$2 schlitz at the velvet lounge 8.30 on saturday night it is then?
Your pretty cheap.
-
I have to agree with Bungle Bud on this one, not only were us straight people a minority but the damn stories kept going and going and going and going and going.....good thing you left at the 100 monkeys story cause that was about 15 minutes by itself. She sounded good when she actually sang but that was rare. It was either her telling stories or her having the crowd sing. And the country version of She-Bop was a total waste.....Oh well it was still better then Natalie Merchant two years ago.
-
Lose the homophobia, people. This is 2003 and that's so not cool. If the show was lousy, fine. I don't know because I wasn't there. If the stories were really that numerous and long, then I agree it was a bad show. But just because there were a lot of gay people there is not a valid reason to dislike the show. Gay people go to events all the time where they are outnumbered by straight people and don't have a problem with it. Why is the reverse such a big problem?
-

quote:
Originally posted by Fiona:
Lose the homophobia, people.

Try going to a predominantly gay audienced show and you might understand. A t Soft Cell, the poncey guys bumping into you and then fighting and then being generally loud and obnoxious.......
They were worse than Steve-O's Frat boy crowd by a long way.

I loved your album, "When the Pawn...", when are you coming out with another one?

a gay guy from dc and myself both posted reviews of the show on cyndis website, both of us commented on the boring stories.the gay guy went into everything that was wrong with the show (it was a long list), we both left before the end. went to her site today and are reviews are gone and have been replaced with reviews saying how great the show was. markie it looks like the bad weather along with the fact that my crap american truck is fucked i wont be able to make saturday, but you did expect some pathetic excuse didnt you? i will meet up with you one day and when i do i will let you watch me shag your wife rotten.
